People with spirit power seem to eat and age in Soul Society.

As to the origins of all the Shinigami, and whether or not they lived normal human lifes, is currently unknown.

i stick with my theory that people apearence are conected with the way they think and the way their minds feel. (in lack of better words) for example a persom that feels old looks old and a person that feel like a five year old girl looks like a five year old girl. thats why in my opinion there is no old hag in bleach so far cus no one respects an old hag (as you might se from my post i have trouble of explaining what goes on in my mind :P)

most stories that involve a life cycle in the after life work like this. a person is born into (or dies into) the after life and their child hood is relatively normal speed. taking the normal time or maybe double the normal time to age from child to adult. but between the ages of 18 and 30 depending on the character they stop visibly ageing and simply stay the way they are forever or possibly age VERY SLOWLY.

this show seems to use the formula of VERY SLOW ageing since yamamoto and some of the seoul society nobility look old while every one else look to be middle aged.

its possible that spirit power has some effect on the ageing process too.

do menos grande go to soul society after they have been purified? they are made of hundreds of hollows right? so, do they stay as one or do they separate in the purification?

there are lots of questions like those ones that are unresolved but hopefully by the end of the manga/anime they will be answered in some way or another.

People in Soul Society do age. But we do not know for if there are only a specific people such as Shinigami's or people with Spirit Pressure.

As far as Rukia goes well its a spoiler so if you want to know just PM. Renji's hasn't been revealed yet.

According to Rukia's explanation in episode 14, soul society and earth exchange souls at a constant rate. I can only assume that when people die in soul society, they return to earth and vice versa. (otherwise if souls just disappeared after dying in soul society, there would be the quincy imbalance problem)

To elaborate this just a little more, this is pretty much what happens in a nutshell. When people die on earth, they go to Soul Society with all memories of their life while alive. They live in SS until they finally die again. This is the difference, it seems that when you die in SS, you're reborn on Earth with a completely erased memory. So basically, you're the same soul with a clean slate.
