Translate a phrase to French please!

Hey, I'm writing a french essy and would like to know how to properly say "mountain climbing" or "rock climbing"... could anyone fluent in french please translate that? It's due tomorrow... :laugh

mountain climbing - s'élever de montagne

rock climbing - s'élever de roche

A correct translation of mountain climbing would be :

To climb = gravir, grimper sur, escalader.
a mountain= une montagne
a rock= un rocher
climbing (used as a name) = l'escalade

So if you want to be precise : mountain climbing = L'escalade de/en montagne
rock climbing = l'escalade de rochers

But only if wether it is a rock or a mountain matters, otherwise, just stick to "l'escalade" which is climbing in general.

You will also say:
to climb a rock/mountain = escalader/gravir un rocher/une montagne.

in France they call it l'escalade v escalader = mountain climbing or rock climbing PERIOD so in other words agreed w doudesg

I would use "dynamique" instead of "actif". "Varappe" is also is a synonym of "escalade" but it is less used.
Here is my proposition for a more gorgeous sentence:
"Etant dynamique et aventureux, j'apprécie particulièrement la pratique de l'escalade".

this should be a better phrase since "escalader" is a verb and doesn't specifically refer to climbing...

I'm french and I think devilguy's translation is more appropriate, if you like mountain climbing the word "varappe" instead of "escalade" is better but most people would use "escalade". Instead of "aventureux" you can put "téméraire" or "casse-cou" but that doesn't make a big difference.

Yeah I live in Quebec, so I have to speak french (I hate it, for those damn verbs -_-) so varrape is more appropriate and much more of a better word.

I know it is too late but in France we almost never use varappe. I believe it is used more often in quebec, but in France I am sure we almost never use it.?

To be more precise, varappe is a mix of trecking and climbing.
