Death Note is awesome. It's definitely not another one of those typical mangas.. the main character is the bad guy, and the 'good guy' is the best character ever.

I don't think the anime's coming out for a loooong while. Death Note has only been running for less than a year right now, and it generally takes 2 or 3 years for an anime. Plus, there's a ton of dialogue and not much action, so I'm not sure whether it'd make a good anime anyways.

That is correct the manga is almost always better than the anime. Anime for me a just a special treat / recap for me.

Sen if it sounds good then download and read. Anime fan's next step is Manga, don't deprive yourself of that step up.

Death Note is getting better and better with every new chapter, the artwork is beautiful and the story is secondd to none, its always fun to see the battles of minds between Kira adn L. Magificent characters if you ask me. I doubt an anime will come out soon though, but seeing the shingami walking around will definitaly rock! Does anyone have an idea how many volumes its gonig to be?

Can you please tell me where you found chapter 47. Chapter 46 left in a cliffhanger that almost kill me. Death note kick ass. If anyone hasn't read this manga, do it. I'm not kidding, this may be the best manga ever. I read all the 46 chapters in a couple of hours, because you couldn't let go of it.

Yeah...it came out that Raito's name was supposed to actually be Light, so a lot of the scanlations have changed it to. Just like Ryuuku is now Ryuk, and Remu is Rem.
It's just really funny when L says "Light-kun".

I did read chapter 48, and is kick ass. Let see how How things turns out. But chapter 49 still hasn't been release. Also today Full Metal Alchemist chapter 42 comes out, so go check it out.

i believe the person can ask another one to the shinigami who 'gave' it. if you read the pilot (which can be found at http://toriyamaworld.com), there's a whole page with indications of the death note. but i'm not sure if the 'story' about the death note is exactly the same with the current manga.

Phew... I just ended reading the last chapter (52)... I read the whole manga in two days, it was gooood... sometimes a little TOO much complicated, but it's bearable, you just have to read the page twice... sure this one makes you think a lot more than the manga I read this far (One Piece, Naruto, Bleach, Fullmetal Alchemist, Berserk) but it's pure genius! Now to the question: is Death Note on Shonen Jump like One Piece, Naruto and Bleach? (I'm positive it is) If it is, does that mean we get one chapter per week? I thought that would be weird since the pages per chapter are more than the usual ones.

P.S.= Light is a horrible name, especially since it's the only english name in a completely japanese context... it's really out of place... I wonder what's the author thinking... Raito was way cooler...

I just researched it. Death Note is released every week via SJ, however, the scans are released completely at random by the scanlating company.

HOWEVER, my bet is, with the substanial evidence piled up against him(to the point where even though he doesn't recall being kira, he still says that it has to be him based on evidence alone and the fact that its what he WOULD do in that situation), if he got it back, he'd probably realize what had happened until that point

I read the Chinese version. Here is a rough summary in white:

Basically, criminal was caught. Someone on the Kira team took the note book. He saw death god and freaked out. Raito's dad touched the book and freaked out as well.

Mean while, death god saw Raito and L on the helicoptor. And she thought Raito might have a chance to touch the book. However, since the death note still belongs to the criminal, Raito will only remember things if he holds on to the note. Therefore, what may happen at the end is that L is the only one out of the two who knows about the existance of the death note. She wondered what would happen.

L told Raito's dad to give him the note book. Raito's dad did that. L saw death god, and was surprise but not really. He went on to analyze silently that death notes and death gods are Kira 1 and 2's weapons. He also deduced that there are more than one death note. He thought there are at least 2 death notes, so getting one death note is not the end of the case yet.

Raito grabbed the death note out of L's hand after hearing L said that so there really are death gods. The moment he touched it memories rushed back. L was not really surprised. Inwardly, L concluded Raito could only remember when he holds the book. Outwardly he said, "Are you alright, Raito. The death god looks pretty scary right?"

Having remembered Raito now looks extremely evil, outwardly he said, "Let me check if the names in this book matches the names of the dead." Inwardly he recalled how the book he actually buried was the girl's book, not his, so all he had to do to kill L was tell the girl to recover the book under the tree. Even if he can't remember anything it would not matter. He thought he had won.

If anything happens to L. I will cry.

It should be interesting to see how things play out now that L knows about the Death Note. It adds a whole new dimension, and so many more possibilities....

I started reading this thing a week ago, and it is awesome! It has zero reread value for me because there are no cool action sequence images (I like da action) but now that I've gone through the twists and turns, I do appreciate this story's cleverness. I even had to stop a few times to figure out what had just happened. While reading this story, I'd sometimes pause before a big sequence and try to predict what would unfold. Lots of fun this story is.

For me, the most important revelation of the story was when...

... Remu revealed that she was female.

Ok, jk, but seriously, that one shocked me, I was like WTF, that thing's a woman? Then again, she does have this motherly thing going on with Misa, so it makes sense, I guess.

For real, my fave twist was when L introduced himself to Light for the first time. Hi, I'm L! LOL, that was great.

I hope L wins. Light has cool thought processes and stuff, but L's goofiness appeals to me more.

As for the latest chapter 54...

How did Higuchi die??? Did Light have Higuchi's name written in the buried book already? So Light already profiled Higuchi and Yotsuba's guys before he forfeited the book? Did Light tell Remu to write Higuchi's name in the death note two weeks after he was first imprisoned, and since Remu didn't like Light at the time, Remu wouldn't kill herself by doing Light a favor?

I'm beginning to wonder if Raito will, in fact, come out the victor in all of this. I mean, one of the two has to win, and while in almost any normal manga the victor would be L, Death Note is anything but typical, and wouldn't that be awesome to have the winner be the "villain"

I suppose it will depend on what sort of message the author wants to send to his readers. If he thinks Light's cause is right, he will probably have Light win in the end.

thats a good question. So far the story has revolved around Raito vs. L. So i don't see anyone winning this stalemate too soon. Despite Raito's proclamation of victory, I really don't think that its going to be all that simple. In a genius vs. genius match like this, the result will be determined in who can think ahead. So Far it appears raito has out-thought L..but that doesn't necessarily mean that raito has.

I see it lasting for awhile. It'll be interesting to see where the next arc heads to.

I just read the whole series so far in a couple of days and I'm amazed. I thought it was gonna get bland after a few chapters into the "good Raito" part, but it started getting really good again when the whole Yotsubato thing was coming to a close. I love this series!

Yeah, I know that. It's just that it changes the whole meaning of his name. His name is written 夜神月　(ya-gami-raito). I would understand if the word "raito" was supposed to mean light and it was written in katakana (indicating a foreign word), but it's written with the kanji for moon. In my opinion, calling him Light is wrong. I think the creator just noticed that it sounded similar and thought it would be cool... -_-|

When I say she is almost certainly dead, I meant that I think the probability is 99.9999% that she is dead. I'm just throwing out wild theories which the author might somehow come up with (i.e. she faked her own death, and her actions somehow coincided with what Light wanted her to do, etc)

She has to be dead. There's no way the author would ruin the manga by bringing here back. She is a smart girl sure, but not smart enough to fool Raito. There's no way she would just coincidentially walk away in the exact same time as the time the Death Note said she would.

Actually you're right, I was fooled by the other two entries in my dictionary, akari (illumination) and hikari (natural light), into thinking that raito was the more general term but looking closer, raito was written in katakana which is mainly used for foreign words

NO WAY!!! L is so shocked that higuchi died that he prolly isn't thinking about the death note book. And normally when people die from the deathnote, they really die. There is no way that L could have grabbed the book before Higuchi died. When the 40 second count down goes to 0, that's it, he's dead. There is no way that L or anyone is going to bring him back to life.

And that night that Raito thought he was asleep, L had trail him, seeing and hearing the plan for his demised. But, instead of showing him and busting there, he wanted to show the world and Raito, whose the smarter man, and devised a plan that would counter the plan of Raito, but taking procession of the second death note, hiding elsewhere, and forgetting like Raito did.

Note, how the initial shock, he was totally normal to it.

Imitating events in the manga series Death Note, Chinese school students in the city of Shenyang have take to writing death notes. The students buy special stationary and follow instructions such as "Write the cause of death and the person's name backwards and the person will die in 40 seconds."

A middle school student told the Shenyang Night Report, "Many of my friends have Death Note. When they are tired of studying, they have fun by writing down the names of teachers they don't like."

Some Shenyang schools have banned the manga and related stationary, the newspaper called Death Note, "Poison, creating wicked hearts." Others however, including one major Chinese newspaper, feel that the ban is an over-reaction and is inappropriate. Some have suggested that overreactions such as these are what stifle creativity in China.

55+56 sure didn't disappoint. This manga is amazing, and I can't wait until it gets even more popular, because it sure deserves to be. I can't wait for the next chapters, either, because I'm pretty sure L will have his countermeasures. Raito, smart as he may be, is going to regret his arrogance very soon, I bet. I had to crack up after he gave his little speech to Misa and Ryuk was all 'like hell you do' XD

Funny thin is, Misa is an idol, people are supposed to be obsessing over her, no the other way around.

Rem looks angry/alarmed that Misa did the deal with Ryuk. There might be an alleigance change in the future... Ryuk's return was great of course, apples and "Like hell you do". I kinda figured Misa would not remember the name. L knows something isn't quite right, but I don't know if he's got it figured out...

But anime is famous for putting their manga counterpart to shame. Let's hope they have good voice actors, and animators. Nothing beats seeing them all animated though, it'll be awesome. I can forsee a Death Note anime soon.

I don't think it'd make a good anime in the sense that it simply wouldn't appeal to the general public. There's just too much talking and convoluted scheming going on which wouldn't translate well to screen.

But turning the manga into an anime may not really work. The large amount of dialogue can actually bore u n u could barely understand what's going anyway. :confused Even with the manga, I actually had to re-read it a couple of times b4 things begin to sink in. :P

Death Note is the story of a high school boy (going on to college) named Raito. He discovers a notebook with the words Death Note carved in. He soon discovers on his own that the Death Note is a notebook where if you write some ones name in it, they die. He is soon visited by a Shinigami named Ryuukuu, who must stay by Raito’s side because he has the Death Note (only Raito can see him because he has the Death Note). Raito decides to kill a few criminals who are on the loose, and the public don’t like it. But how can they stop something they don’t know is happening by a regular High School boy? alright, so after reading 58...

there are now 3 notes in the human world? the one from ryuk, the one from rem, and now the one rem left behind? and technically, raito is owner or whatever of 2 of these, although one is under surveillance so he can't really use it... but he did pick up rem's after she died, so control of it passes to him now, right?

is this what everyone else has concluded?

other than that, god i want to cry! its gotta be staged.... L is smart enough to do that somehow... i hope... ;_;
