View Full Version : Windows Vista
I was wondering if anyone is going to go to Windows Vista when it comes out next year? I'm personally not because I want to wait until atleast the first Service Pack. And please don't make this a Linux vs. Mac vs. Windows debate.

I will get Vista only if its free with whatever hardware i upgrade or something. Until then, my XP is still good, unless Vista increases performance of games and such then i will get it.
I remember when they had the tch demo out for XP and showed how fast it shut down. They were all screaming 7 seconds or something like that. No look at the shutdown time, unless it is a fresh copy it takes at least 30 seconds. They said Vista will do startup and shutdown in less than 5. That is not going to happen.

I'll give it a while until they fix at least a few of the most blatent and horrendous security flaws (and you know there will be a few). Then, I will pirate the hell out of it. :laugh
LMAO, isn't that how it's always done?

There is no reason for me to want to get Vista. Pirated...or purchased. XP has been doing fine for me and such. Only until programs that I use move to it and games developed only for will I do so. But that won't be for a while, since they developers will still put their stuff on XP.

The maker of half life 1/2 got to test it out and go to meetings.. he said that their was not a single thing in Vista that helps out gamers / customers needs... Basically said was a waste.

Just another way to milk more money out of customers. Just repackage XP with new features and a new name.

My friend got to beta test it, and I must say that it looked spectacular, but I didn't get to see enough of it to notice anything other than anew look.
I think it looks beautiful but I'm going to wait. And their new graphics engine on its highest setting (Aero Glass) requires a 256mb card. It's gotta look great.

Personally, if your just in it for the looks. Theres a site that can allow you to make your xp, look like VISTA (http://www.wincustomize.com). Besides the looks, I don't think anything is too different, and worth getting. Maybe pirated in a few years.
I've been reading up on it and like that the whole "My" thing is gone. Finally!

What's so wrong about the "My" thing? Doesn't bother me...

It is a problem when you are trying to do tech support.
"Ok now click on My Computer."
"How can I click on your computer?"
I'm not kidding...you wouldn't believe how stupid people are.

When it was first being made, it was like that. But then they ran into way too many problems in the middle of development and could not get it to work at all. So they scraped everything and started fresh. It is now an entirely new operating system (code-base wise) with a brand new kernal.
Also, it shouldn't be as bug ridden as previous installations of windows due to bug checking on every code submission that rejects bad code as well as other things. There is an interesting article here (http://online.wsj.com/article/SB112743680328349448.html?mod=todays_us_page_one) from the Wall Street Journal. Hopefully their new development strategy will pay off.
I don't see it being very good for gamers though because it looks like it's going to be a huge resource hog. But if all you do is surf the web, office stuff, ect. then it should be pretty good.

It won't talke long before people find a way around that, you know?
Plus from what I can tell it is looking pretty good, though one of the biggest reason I want to upgrade to Vista is because I want to totally git' rid' of all the junk on this comp and start fresh.

People actually care about shut down time? I mean start up time... ok understandable but when I go to shut down I just leave my computer.

After a while, the start up time will increase same with the shut down time.
When i first had the comp everything started fast, after a while things would just wear down.

Vista has rather advanced Digital Restrictions Management support. I will not buy it. I will not pirate it. I will not use it.

I probably won't get it, at least not for a while. XP has been working fine for me, and from what I've heard Vista uses a lot of system resources and is mostly just "bells and whistles" that aren't really useful anyway.

Actually, from what I've heard, Vista will use Direct X 10, which will not be compatible with any games Direct X 9 or below. You read that right (Microsoft trying to kill PC gaming to push the 360 maybe?). I'm just going to wait for the inevitable Microsoft bugs to work themselves out. Until then, I'm going to get OS X when it comes out for PC this year, then get Leopard when it comes out.

I won't bother with Vista. There's nothing new in it that would make it worth it and it'll come with a handful of troubles. All it does is look nice, none of the new features IMO are really that useful.

How do you know that OS X will be coming out for PCs?
