"Oh boy...where to begin with this guy? Well, let me start by saying that this guy kicks ass. As a character, he's probably by far the best guy that SNK has ever created. He has the looks, the style and the attitude that put him in a class by himself. Iori is currently filling the 'deadly rival' role in King of Fighters, and is set upon killing Kyo Kusanagi due to the long standing family rivalry between the two clans. The Yagami clan was once a part of the Kusanagi clan. But due to clan differences and differences in opinions, etc., the clans split off to become the Kusanagis and the Hassakus. Then 1800 years ago, the dreaded dragon-hydra Orochi tried to manifest itself into the world and only through the efforts of a Kusanagi hero was it able to be defeated (but not destroyed) and put to sleep. Every so often (it used to be every 100 years, but since the KoF series started, it's like almost every year now), the Orochi would stir, and a hero or group of heroes would have to go stop it. Then, 620 years or so ago (I forget the exact amount of time), the Hassuku clan decided that it needed more power to defeat the Kusanagi flame. So it made a pact with the Orochi that in return for power, the Hassuku would aid Orochi's awakenings when it could. The deal was made and it forever tainted the blood line of the Hassukus, who changed their clan name to "Yagami." As a physical representation of their cursed line, any and all Yagamis that can summon the old crimson flames now summon purple ones instead."
"Iori made his first appearance in 1995, along with Billy Kane and Eiji Kisaragi. Then after kickin the crap out of those two, Iori appeared again in 1996 with Vice and Mature. At the conclusion of the 1996 tournament, he entered the Riot of the Blood and attacked them and it seems that he killed them (they didn't make a repeat performance in 1997). In 1997, Iori was entered into the tournament by Chizuru Kagura, and was a solo participant (only way to get an ending with him was to pick Kyo and Chizuru as his teammates). In 1998, the entire game is considered to be a "dream sequence" so he is once again with his old team mates of Vice and Mature. Whether or not they are truly alive and back has yet to be seen."
"Iori has the following 'special' moves:
* A fireball-like attack in which he throws a small blazing 'flower' of purple fire across the ground. (Said while attacking: "Do-shi-ta!"/"What's wrong?!")
* An uppercut-like attack in which Iori jumps into the air, creating two ribbons of purple flame around his body as he does so. He then spins at the height of his jump, and then lands on the ground. (Said while attacking: Nothing, he merely grunts.)
* A triple hit attack in which he rushes forward and smacks the side of his opponent's head with his fist. The second, follow-up attack has him bashing the other side of his foe's head with his other hand. The third and final attack in the sequence has him make a short jump in the air as he locks his hands together and smashes his target into the ground. (Said while attacking: Nothing, but he does exhale sharply for each hit.)
* A rushing grab move (it's not a throw, so it can be blocked), Iori runs straight at his opponent, and then grabs them by the head. Slamming them to the ground, he channels purple flame through his hand and 'blows them up'. (Said while attacking: First he grunts, then yells "Shi-ne!"/"Die!")
* A throw based move where Iori reaches out and latches onto his opponent's shoulder. Iori then whips them behind his body and leaves them with their back to Iori. This move does no damage, but it does leave his target with their back to him, giving Iori the opportunity to get in a free hit (even a super). (Said while attacking: Nothing, Iori just grunts (he does that a lot).)
* (New move as of 1998) A move in which Iori creates a small flame in his hand and jumps forward, whipping his hand downwards. This is kind of a weird move. It's slow, but if it lands, it leaves the opponent stunned for a brief second, which makes it combo-able. (Said while attacking: You guessed it, nothing.)"
"Iori also has 2 "SUPER" moves:
* A rushing all-or-nothing attack, known as his "Maiden Masher" (that translation isn't THAT great, but that's what everyone refers to it as). In this move, Iori ducks low to the floor, sliding right under any projectile that doesn't flow across the ground (Terry's power wave, 94 style Kyo's fireball and another Iori player's fireball will cancel it). When he lands it, he begins ripping into his opponent in rapid succession, totalling 8 or 9 hits (varies). He then finishes by grabbing his opponent's chest with both hands crossed over each other and then blasts them with purple fire. In 1997, this move is the ultimate air defense, cancelling almost every attack and landing almost anytime any character jumps. To my knowledge, only Leona's light punch and Orochi Yashiro can cancel it once he's started it. (Said while attacking: Iori first starts by saying "A-so-bi-wa O-wa-ri-da!/"Play time has ended", and then as he's tearing into his foe, he says "Na-ke! Sa-ke-be! So-shi-te...Shi-ne!"/"Cry! Scream! And then...DIE!")
* Iori's level 2 version of this move is even nastier, and has him temporarily enter the "Riot of the Blood." Iori rears back and rushes forward, saying nothing this time. When the move lands, he rears back and roars, then slashes his foe across the throat and knocks them to the ground. He then kneels down and begins tearing into them with his hands. After 3 or 4 rips, he turns his head back to face the player, showing that his face is locked in an insane visage of rage and hatred, and his eyeballs are completely rolled back, leaving only the blank whites in their place. He then turns back and beats on the ground with both fists. Once, then twice, and on the third strike, he roars again and causes the ground to explode with purple fire. He then stands up and goes back to normal. (By far his coolest move. The voice actor in 1998 gets into Iori's moves and voice a LOT more than the guy in 1997 did.)
* A 'Super Fireball', badly translated as "One-For-The-Road". In this move, Iori creates a small purple fire in his hand and holds it there. Depending on how long the player holds the button down determines how long he holds it and how far the blast will go when he finally lets it go. Minimum distance is about half the screen, maximum is the full screen length. It looks like his normal fireball (maybe a little larger, it's hard to tell cause it's quick), but then blows up when it either hits his opponent or goes to its maximum distance. Either way, the fireball explodes, creating a column of purple fire, shooting straight up. If the other player is hit and does not block, he takes a little damage and is completely paralyzed (they'll glow purple), allowing Iori to get in a free hit. The level 2 of this creates several columns of purple fire that explode upwards and move away from Iori, to a maximum of a full screen length (I think its 5 or 6 columns all together). If you've ever played Magneto in one of the Capcom vs Street Fighter games, this move looks like his "Magnetic Shockwave". Again, if an opponent is hit by this move and does not block, they take damage and can't move. (Said while attacking: "Ra-ku ni wa shi-ne-zo!"/"(Again, it's hard to give a straight translation, because it doesn't sound that good in English) I won't make dying easy for you!")"
