Blood+ FCChiropteran – is an un-dead monster with a grotesque figure, however it can disguise it's self as a human and sucks people's blood. There is a secret organization called Red Shield, they exist to hunt down the Chiroptearns.

It is the year 2005, in Okinawa. A high school girl Otonashi Saya spends her life peacefully, she seems normal but the only thing about her is that she lost all her memories a year ago. Her perfect life ends with a accident.

She meets Hagi, who's in a black suite playing a cello, he gives her a Japanese sword. At this moment, history turn a new page.

Will Saya remember about her past?

Well my theory on why she went completely psycho on everyone there was because her bloodlust (no pun intended XD) got completely out of hand. Because as you'll see in the movie (and from the summary you posted) her main purpose was to kill those monsters (Chiropterans).

Hopefully we'll soon get to see what led to her going insane against those she was 'supposed' to be protecting. It might be a few episodes or so before it comes to light though.

It's really awkward bc u see her slaying those creatures, then innocent villagers, then the soldiers. Near the ending of the past, she is surrounded by those creatures and isnt attacking them. It looks like they're allies or something ...

Nah, the little girl is the same one Saya ran down and sliced in half (check out pig-tails). It's Saya though, only with long hair. Just take a look at her features a little closer and also take note of her sword (unique to her).

As well, the screenshot i provided shows that Saya and Hagi were somehow related to one another, the pic David was holding.

But if u watched the Last Vampire the movie. It says that Saya is the last Original. Unless the serie takes another different direction, then maybe Hagi is another of the original.

In the feature film, Saya had symbolic pigtails, but in Blood+, she has a short hair.
I thought if the anime took place in the present, Saya just couldn't be in a sailor-suit uniform with pigtails like Saya in the film [Note: the film Blood: The Last Vampire is set in 1966]. I felt her image in the film was something of a masterpiece. You can't really reuse it. So I decided to completely update the design for the present day. Mr. Ishikawa said it might be better to have long hair, but we persisted with the short design. It's simpler for animators, and also matches the image of Saya as a lively girl. As for the actual hairstyle, we poured in a lot of ideas and then spent some time choosing the right one.

And about the interview, yeah that confused me too. I don't completely understand it but in some strange way it still is a prequel to The Last Vampire because she's younger than she was in the movie. Honestly, I should've pointed that out (the present day factor) because of the obvious signs of cell phones and the like but it would seem that Blood+ is kinda an 'AU prequel' of sorts (almost the same story, only a different timeline). Sorry if I misled you with my words. XD

Damn all those things slipped my mind. I honestly thought that it was a prequel from the information I gathered, but this whole switching of the timeline thing is a bit confusing.

I'm watching the movie right now and if things are the way they seem then it would all add up as to why it takes place in 2005. Especially since the manga sequel takes place in 2002.

Just finished reading it ... and now it makes perfect sense. Why Saya has two personality; she got persuaded by Maya and fused with her.

And the chiropteran were created by the humans, but were failures one after another. The humans wanted to gain immortaility, and the chiropteran were like guinea pig. It finally got to the point where the chiropteran got out of hands ... so the humans decided to fight fire with fire. And Saya was created to fight against em', and she was created by the only remaining of pure blooded species; the original female chiropteran.

Maya and Saya were the outcome ... and essentially are sorta like a clone of the original female chiropteran. But Maya was the protype; the blood sucking nature, and incomplete ability to transform. While Saya is the nonblood sucking chiropteran

With the fusion between Maya and Saya ... they created a new type chiropteran. Maybe that is why Saya has that red eyes .. it must be the result of the fusioin IMO

I think that Hagi is similar to Maya bc his right hand is similar to Maya... in addition, i think Hagi is another of those protype.

If u look at the pic below. You see the that the Original female chiropteran is with Hagi, or should i say the original Hagi.

I believe that is the case bc the style of clothes they r wearing, very old fashion. And prolly in late 1800's - early 1900's.

Hagi doesnt have that monsterous hand like he does in the present. And like i said, he resembles to Maya.

With that in mind, i think that the past memories of Saya opening a door is just a fragmented memories of the original female chiropteran. Saya is afterall, sorta like a clone of the original, and it shouldnt be a surprise of her having flashbacks of opening that door.

Because when Saya was opening the door... she was wearing an old fashion clothes, and the serie clearly indicate that Saya is a creation of the original. So Saya never really wore those old fashion clothes, rather it was the oringal.

Indeed that's a good question. Maybe Saya was just naturally following her orders to eliminate them and then got sidetracked by her other half. If our theory is right, then I think in some weird way both of them seem to be in control at the same time sometimes. But Blood+ seems to be taking a slightly different approach so far from what you said. When she 'switched' back to her normal self, did she remember anything that she did in classroom?

When Kai called Saya's name, Saya was just standing there and didnt know what happened. When she looked in the mirror, she freaked out bc the blood that was stained on her body.

And also I always wondered about that scene in the movie where she held out her hand was giving some of her blood to that chiropteran. Dare I say she was feeling pity for it?
This was before she met Maya, so her understanding is that the chiropteran were evil. But the manga u sent me, and in the beginning, she asked to herself "How long is this gona continue." So there could be the part that yes, she have some emotion toward the chiropteran.

This was before she met Maya, so her understanding is that the chiropteran were evil. But the manga u sent me, and in the beginning, she asked to herself "How long is this gona continue." So there could be the part that yes, she have some emotion toward the chiropteran.

As I thought. She probably eventually got tired of slaughtering chiropteran after chiropteran without questioning exactly why she was doing it.

About her 'father', I'm really not sure what to think so far. I can only assume that his daughter was probably killed by a chiropteran. I don't think she looked like Saya but they probably have similar personalities (the cute Saya :P). Hopefully they shed some more light on it though.

Why Saya has two personality; she got persuaded by Maya and fused with her.

Maya and Saya were the outcome ... and essentially are sorta like a clone of the original female chiropteran. But Maya was the protype; the blood sucking nature, and incomplete ability to transform. While Saya is the nonblood sucking chiropteran

With the fusion between Maya and Saya ... they created a new type chiropteran. Maybe that is why Saya has that red eyes .. it must be the result of the fusioin IMO

I think that Hagi is similar to Maya bc his right hand is similar to Maya... in addition, i think Hagi is another of those protype.

If u look at the pic below. You see the that the Original female chiropteran is with Hagi, or should i say the original Hagi.

I believe that is the case bc the style of clothes they r wearing, very old fashion. And prolly in late 1800's - early 1900's.

Hagi doesnt have that monsterous hand like he does in the present. And like i said, he resembles to Maya.

The only thing we have seen from Saya beside slashing, is her sword. Strangely when it hits a target, her blood on her sword moves toward the wound of the target. And in Epi 2, we see that the mouse sorta paralyzed ... IMO, if it wasnt for that sword which enables Saya's blood to move into a target, the chiropteran could've easily attackd Saya. Because Saya didnt kill the chiropteran in an instant... so there was opening where the chiropteran could've attacked, right? So im guessing it has to be Saya's blood that made the chiropteran not attack

Im sure he would've approached Saya and somehow make Saya drink his blood, then Saya would've transformed, and there's nothing for her to kill. When u think about it, b4 Saya got her memory erased, she wasnt that much different compare to Maya. Both didnt hold back or hestitate when they point a sword at their enemy. But the Saya we see today ... she's different, in a way, what i can conclude is that there's 3 Saya involved: Maya, Saya that dont hesitate and Saya that is very gentle ... Wierd eh?

Ya ... near the ending of the convero between George and David. You can tell that Saya was waiting for George to refuse David's suggestion. But in the end, George just says "Fine, I'll talk to her." There are 3 types:

I read trough the manga, and alot of stuff suddenly made sense. For example who the woman next to our freaky-hand friend Hagi was, and what Saya, along with that other person really was. I had drawn a similar conclusion, but everything makes sense now.

The manga was kind of disturbing though, I have never seen so many boobs in my life, then mixed with some blood and guts, just wow. :amazed

Anyway. Going to download the movie overnight and watch it tomorrow.

Here's a theory i made ago ... if u still have questions. Let me know and ill make a more elaborate one ^^


Since the ancient time, vampires and humans had co-existed. The equilibrium between the two was thought to last for eternity. But in the 19th century, some humans broke that prohibition. In order to fulfil their desire to study the vampire, they put everything they got; every ritual, secret art, alchemy, science throughout generations, they kept pursuing it in various ways to discover immortality. But it wasn't a wish that could be fulfilled after all.

One after another, it resuled in failures. Beings with really low intelligence, beings with really low physical ability.

Originally, Chiropteran sucked blood from humans, but it never resulted in killing the humans. It was a symbotic relationship. However, as the research progressed even further, only their killer instinct and combat abilities increased.

And the chiropteran were created by the humans, but were failures one after another. The humans wanted to gain immortaility, and the chiropteran were like guinea pig. It finally got to the point where the chiropteran got out of hands ... so the humans decided to fight fire with fire. And Saya was created to fight against em', and she was created by the only remaining of pure blooded species; the original female chiropteran.



Why Saya has two personality; she got persuaded by Maya and fused with her.

Maya and Saya were the outcome ... and essentially are sorta like a clone of the original female chiropteran. But Maya was the protype; the blood sucking nature, and incomplete ability to transform. While Saya is the nonblood sucking chiropteran

With the fusion between Maya and Saya ... they created a new type chiropteran. Maybe that is why Saya has that red eyes .. it must be the result of the fusioin IMO

I think that Hagi is similar to Maya bc his right hand is similar to Maya... in addition, i think Hagi is another of those protype.

If u look at the pic below. You see the that the Original female chiropteran is with Hagi, or should i say the original Hagi.

I believe that is the case bc the style of clothes they r wearing, very old fashion. And prolly in late 1800's - early 1900's.

Hagi doesnt have that monsterous hand like he does in the present. And like i said, he resembles to Maya.

First what struck me was the quite odd character design, sure, they look human compared to the normal anime characters we see with their all-too pointy cheeks and overly-cute eyes.

That made me think of the time in the chemistry lab at her school in episode 2 (of Blood+) where she fought a chiropteran, and asked Hagi for her sword.

Her personality had suddenly changed, and she spoke english, she didn't say "Ken" (japanese for sword, along with many other words, i.e tsurugi), nope, she said "Sword".

This made it clear to me that she is indeed is some sort of mix between Maya, and the old Saya (we see in the movie). Well, it was quite obvious to begin with that her chiropteran blood (or whatever to call it, because that's basically what it is, right?) changed her somehow, because she suddenly felt like fighting, having just seconds ago screamed and cried because she didn't want to.

My theory is that since Maya is a protype and fused with Saya (eating Maya .. yes, bc afterwards, the agent said they couldnt find the other person). There was some blood mixing as well ... so im sure Saya drank Maya's blood, and that created a reaction.

In this case, when Hagi made Saya drink his blood, it caused a reaction... however, Hagi said that Saya still hasnt waken yet. So my guess is that Hagi didnt give enuff blood for Saya to drink.

The anime showed that the reason why Saya turned to her other personality is bc she was remembering parts of her past;when n she was opening that door. Maybe to fully wake her up is for her to remember 100% of her past ... and maybe understand what was behind those door IMO

After watching EPI3 ... ive noticed that David said that Say's "blood" can only defeat the Chiroptearns. And my observation before in EPI2, when Saya was fighting the first mouse, seem to have some connection. You see that Saya didnt finish the mouse in an instant, and such there was opening where the Chiroptearn could've attacked Saya. However, it couldn't bc my theory was it was due to Saya's blood; paralyzed the mouse ... and it seems that it's a valid reason now

I found it interesting when David said that they didnt want to force Saya, or else the result could've been similar in the Viet War. Now my impression is that David is talking about the massacre where Saya was killing everyone in sight ...

In the movie, it would appear that Saya would follow orders, and especially not hurt humans. So it's evidently clear that Maya and Saya has fused together, and i know we've talked about this before, but i think the person that killed those humans in the Viet War was none other than Maya ...

And the person that saved George told him to protect and take care of Saya .. interesting. But it would appear that Saya was sleeping for a long period of time. I am very interest'd who that person was that saved George ...

But all in all ... an another excellent episode :whoo

Did anyone else feel the ownage David was putting on Kai? :laugh I mean the kid means well but unless he shows something 'superhuman' in the future, he really doesn't have a chance in helping Saya, Hagi or David with anything Chiro-related.

This was a sad episode indeed. I just felt that George turning into a Chiro was coming. =( At least they didn't let him go through with the full transformation and allowed him do die as a human and, as he said, as a father.

Plot-wise they seem to be getting into the backstory of the Vietnam war soon. But more importantly, we were introduced to Delta 67. A substance that seems to fully heal the wounds of a patient but it also hints at having another purpose. Helps with the Chiro transformation perhaps? Hopefully we'll get some more light shed on it and Saya's interesting past soon enough.

Just watched epi7 and i must say it's VERY interesting, especially in the beginning :O

-Cing Fleshe Pharmacy is an interesting character ... very creepy. It seems that he is the one that is responsible for creating the Delta 67. If that is the case, it shouldnt be a surprise that his test subjects are humans as guinea pig (Forest and George). But of course they were "failures" bc they couldn't control the Chiroptearn within em'. So he will eventually, if not already, perfec the Dealta 67 to make himself stronger. But that's just a theory of course...

-Damn Haji, still wont tell Saya her past ... more waiting games >.<

-Cool change of setting, very similar to the movie where Saya is undercover ...

Interesting episode. VERY interesting I must say. Saya's dream intrigued me to no end. For those who've read the manga they should have an idea about what that scene was all about. Of course, we can't set anything in stone as yet but that person in her dream can be one of two people. That is: The Original or as introduced in the manga, Maya, Saya's twin. Hints are leading it to be The Original because of her choice of clothing and the time period (they really seem to match the photo).

Seems like we're going to learn a bit more on Delta 67 soon enough (as early as the next episode). And that Cinq Fleshe Pharmacy dude is interesting. I wonder why he can't shake hands? XD

Cool to see that they've shifted from Japan for the time being as well. I don't expect them to be on the move for the entire series but we'll see how long it lasts and how it's used in future episodes.

Im too busy trying to figure out exactly where this anime is going to be worried about if its boring or not. So far I dont think so plus it looks like it heats up in the next ep...I watched 10 last night before i went to sleep. Whats funny about Blood+ is I heard the ending theme about a week before i watched the show(a friend of mine had a cd with Japanese songs on it). Me and a buddy of mine were thinking it sounds like it belongs on an anime and she agreed with us like yeah it does doesnt it? Then Im watching Blood+ and realized its the same song i was just listening to a week earlier.

Dont ya think the Phantom Character isnt cool in your book? I mean, i really dislike that mask of his, and ESPECIALLY his freaky personality. I hope he dies soon ... but I dont know how he will cus by watching episode 11, Saya along with the help of Hagi and David couldnt beat the Phantom. As much i dislike him, he's way too strong.

Hmm, Phantom didn't really call Haji anything new. He referred to him as Saya's Chevalier, which means he's a knight. Pretty much that's what he's been acting as since the beginning.
