I really don't hear much mention of video game music on this forum, and that's a shame. Some of my favorite music comes from video games. In fact, that is one of my major musical influences as I played a lot of video games growing up. To me, the music was as important as the game itself. It help set the mood and ease me into the world inside the game (otherwise rendering me lifeless to the outside world.)

So, what is your favorite video game music, soundtracks, composers, ect...

Some of my favorite video game soundtracks:
-Super Mario RPG, Legend of the Seven Stars
-Super Mario World
-Super Mario World 2, Yoshi's Island
-Super Mario Bros. 2
-Super Mario Bros. 3
-Sonic 1, 2, 3, and Knuckles
-Earthbound

My favorite composer is obviously Koji Kondo, given the dominating amount of Mario on my favorites list.

I know exactly what you mean. Do you remember classics like Ken's theme from SF2 or Ryu's From SF2 Turbo...man those were awesome songs. There was nothing like Midi-Rock.....

I had it until my harddrive crashed. I'm going to scour Dc++ and see if I can find a soundtrack.

Twizted
07-30-2005, 07:54 PM
I have DC++ I've been looking for ages, and all I could find was remix versions or the really crappy alpha versions that were more like light jazz than Ken's rock music...

All the Zelda games.
Tales of Symphonia.
Baten Kaitos has some good music, but the voice acting is wank.
Street Fighter (Ken and Ryu's level) just for the memories. (If anybody can find the originals, PM me them, I would really appreciate it.) :)

That's all I can remember.

Who like VGM here? Well I do! Why? Does it seem weird to you that I mostly listen to music coming from games instead of real band?:blink
Well let me tell you that VGM are one of the greatest kind of music ever made. When your playing a game, it's the music that put you into the actions, the drama, ect. A good game would not be the same without it. Listening to a VGM from your comp instead of simply hearing it when you play a game make you realize just how good and inspiring the song is.

If you don't believe me, try it yourself and make sure you hear the remixes made by fans too. A real piece of art. :sgan

Ah B
09-28-2005, 05:54 PM
Yea, it's good, but it gets repetitive once in a while, so I only listen to it when playing games. :)

Centeolt
09-28-2005, 06:20 PM
In that case, you must listen to the remixes. They are so good that you won't realize how many times you've listened to only one of them.

CrazyMoronX
09-28-2005, 06:27 PM
I will sometimes listen some VG Music instead of other music, but it's a rare occurance. While I agree it can be very good, and even better than a lot of "real" music, I don't think it's suited well to listening by itself.

Then again, they sell soundtracks, so of course this is an opinion, and millions of others must also listen to a lot of game music, else there wouldn't be soundtracks, piano remakes etc... Or they wouldn't be selling them.

Anyway... I do have a couple soundtracks downloaded (ripped from the actual games). But I don't listen to them much.

Nobuo writes amazing music, and I have heard a buncha bands that play VG Music, but it's FAR from the height of musical composition.

There have been a few games with amazing ST's, and some of the re-mixes are cool...but it's only specific games that have caught my attention with their soundtracks.
