Freaking love Damien Rice.....I think the first song I heard of his was Volcano, and I kinda got into him after that. Good stuff. He has a great voice. It's really soothing.
Dam is indeed awesome. O is a fantastic songwriting effort. Delicate is one of my most fav opening tracks of all time. But Eskimo is his masterpiece. That solo guitar followed by Dam's vocals and that cello make for such an enchanting effect. The chorus is heartwarming and uplifting, I cant help but smile when I hear it. But the song geats REALLY good towards the end, with its (somewhat) of vocal explostion and climax with the addition of that femal opera vocals. And unlike many songs that include operatic sounds, this one fits it perfectly.
This records gets the perfect score, 5/5. I highly reccomend this to anyone, a must have in your collection.

there are two acoustic players i can carbon copy:
John Mayer
and damien rice
O is an exceptional album. i actually like Amie, out of all the songs. then the blowers daughter.
whats that song that goes "whyd you say halleluah, if it means nothing to yah?" thats the 3rd best
John Mayer (as lovely as he is) blows, and blows hard for that matter. I have absolute faith he will become a divine entity as he gets older, but for the time being, he's a great guitarist, and a horrid lyricist (horrid in a sense he could do SO much, but doesnt).

All of it is must own material.
Damien Rice is great. I haven't heard much, but I love The Blower's Daughter (so beautiful), Delicate, and Volcano.

I'm thinking I should buy some of his albums. I really enjoy him. I listen to him on my computer all the time from stuff I downloaded from Ares, but it would be better to have an album of stuff.

to not know damien rice is a sin. he's amazing, and i dream of going to ireland if not to bag him and bring him back to the states, to at least be mesmerized in some seedy irish bar by his passionate music.
GO LISTEN TO DAMIEN IF YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY. Cold water is my favorite ^^

Wow, this thread is back. One last post before bed, then :P
I have to start by saying that this album is simply phenomenal, IMO. I back Moe's 5/5 without hesitation, and I would like to point out that neither he nor I give out 5's lightly.
Why does it deserve a 5? Because Damien Rice imbues every word with so much emotion that certain songs literally staggered me when I first heard them. It is one thing to read his lyrics--which are awesome. It is an entirely different thing to hear them sung by Damien. The man can sing! Not since Sufjan Stevens have I heard a singer who can make each word so dense and so poweful merely by the way he sings it. Truly, I can't say enough about Damien Rice's inflection and his vocal capabilities.
Aside from that, every piece is gorgeous in its arrangement. Whether it be a folk ballad or an orchestrally backed song, on nearly every occasion the songs on O are played so well that they could bring a tear to your eye (which they do when I listen to them).
If you haven't heard this album yet, get it now.
@Ender: This is the first I have heard of anything aside from O. I am intrugued...If you could share those B-sides, I would greatly appreciate it :love

Heey so cool you guys know Damien Rice.
Not really, since this is a forum with lots of nationalities.
I love his music.
A girl sent a song of him via msn, called "I remember".
Breathetaking!
I bought "O" the other day and fell in love.
He's like Jeff Buckley, Rufus Wainwright and Paul Weller.
(Tom McRae and John Jackson too I think)

After reading this thread I had to listen to him again. It's wonerful, his voice, the melody, every aspect is almost perfect, so that it's scary. If more singer/songwritters were like this. There would be no wars. Only emotions....so true and deep.
I hereby resurrect this thread from the dead!

I'm sure someone has mentioned this but Cannonball is one of my favorite songs...I am interested in listening to more of Rice's music and this thread has been good to get titles of good stuff
as for mayer....from what I've heard I agree with all the "great guitarist, crappy lyrics" comments

OK. Spinning it now. Loving it to death, as expected. Few musicians tug on my heartstrings as constantly and seemingly effortlessly as that beautiful, scraggly looking bastard. :love

Damien Rice sounds a bit like Jack Johnson and John Mayer- but I don't really like John Mayer at all... Jack Johnson is good, though.
I like Damien Rice.
