I know i do :P
I like the whole cartoon gimmick thing, its amazingly different and adds something fun to the music.
Incidentally, have you heard their new song Dare? its fantastic, its so catchy and 'head boppaple' youll keep playing it over and over :D
There not really my bag, but all the love to em'.

I use to think they were kind of a novelty group when they first came out but they have grown on me. I now like the 2-D idea but like the music more. 'Feel Good Inc' of thier latest album is one of my favourite tracks.

All I know is, I have had Feel Good inc stuck in my head ALL DAY.
I've only hear two of their songs, the old one, and this current one. Haven't heard Dare yet...

Yeah, I made a Gorillaz FC and a Gorillaz thread way back when I joined. There a good band, but what I hate is that it takes awhile for a CD to come out. After a few hit songs, they disappear off the face of the planet and you never hear them again.
Catatonik

-ing yeah we like em.
The Gorillaz -ing rock. It is such a brilliant concept, and all the musicians invole are hyper talented.

They're sorta cutesy and fun to listen to. I don't watch any music TV stations or listen to radio, so I haven't heard their new songs and what not but their older stuff was fun to listen to/watch.

Gorillaz are the shet!! That song with Dela Sol in it is sick!!:smile-big

I like them. I've never been into rap that much, but they have a knack for making refrains that I love. I've always wondered, are they actually a band or just one guy like I heard? Either way they rock.

DARE is a great 'fun' song! It's not groundbreaking artistry or anything but damn does it make me wanna shake my ass! Having Shaun Ryder as a guest vocalist on the song can't hurt either!

I really like Gorillaz alot
My fave song so far has to be 'Dare'
Not to sound cocky or anything but I liked 'Dare' before it was even released as a single(saw the video on either MTV2 or VH2)

I dont listen to nothing but rap, but for some reason, i really like the gorillaz. I liked them ever since that "clint eastwood" song. I havent heard the song called "dare" yet, but i heard "feel good inc." and i like that song alot.

Is Damon Albarn still involved?
If so, screw 'em :)

Negtive, we don't like them.

They're ok. Haven't heard much from them though, save that Feel Good Inc. song.

there cool, not typical normal band with ONE music style!
these 4 wierdo's are HUGE in music styles!

It's not entirely original. Linkin Park did an anime music video last year. Plus that thing that spins its neck very unnaturally freaks me out. I don't like the Gorillaz that much, but that's just me. :kblush
Wierd Divide
09-18-2005, 03:47 PM
Loff them. Damon Albarn went to my school.
If Linkin Park did it last year then Gorillaz did it before them in 2001 with their first album, when they released Clint Eastwood and had the cartoon video.

Yes, yes he is.
Anyhoo, the Gorillaz are an original and interesting project with a WIDE spread of very talented performers involved.

I think the Gorillaz are a great band! I love their animation in film clips and they are also good at singing!

The Gorillaz are a great band, really catchy songs, and funny music videos :)
I had Clint Eastwood stuck in my head for like a year when I first heard it, then Feel Good Inc. has been stuck in my head lately...I haven't heard of Dare yet o.O
The only bad thing about them is their CD's only have maybe 2-3 good songs on them...:(

gorrilaz is an awesome group, very original and catchy songs too plus their videos rock!

their videos are great

The concept of the Gorrilaz has always held this sort of intrigueing quality for me. I've always liked the group for that reason. It helps that the music is genuinly talented also. :)
Yes, there is so much love for the Gorillaz. Creative, and most importantly fun and trippy.
jkingler
10-11-2005, 04:26 PM
Emphasis on the trippy part, on most of their tracks :laugh
Their singles are mostly fun, but the rest of their tracks are mostly trippy. I definitely gotta give it up for them on their latest album. Feel Good Inc., while awesome, isn't the only good track on the album (as many have thankfully pointed out already).
Gorillaz are awesome (even if they could use more Del in their tracks :shifty).
They have got some very cool songs, definitly like their originel style =}

Quoted for truth!

Gorillaz are great, but I wouldn't really call them 'trippy' per say.
Catatonik
10-11-2005, 04:53 PM
Well, there IS Fire COming Out of a Monkeys Head dude
that is pretty fucking tripped out song.
But on the whole, no, not so trippy per se.
Just cool.
jkingler
10-11-2005, 04:58 PM
Well, I am not a huge fan of really trippy music, most of the time, so they are pretty trippy by my standards (but not, of course, by Cata's and colin's XD).
And I am glad you agree about Del needing to get on their tracks more often. Deltron was one of the best collabs ever, IMO :love
Catatonik
10-11-2005, 05:08 PM
Dude
listen to Porcupine Tree, Sleep, or Shpongle
Then you learn about trippy ;)
Shpongle are on a completely different level of acid. Freaking amazing, Id kill to see them live.
Catatonik
10-11-2005, 05:17 PM
That would be an experience I would REQUIRE Mushrooms and Mary J for.
Seriously.

10-11-2005, 05:20 PM
Ozric Tentacles is about the trippiest band I've ever heard.
Cata; Im quite sure they will supply the audience XD.
Ozric Tentacles is about the trippiest band I've ever heard.
*cough*PIMP*cough*
Sun Ra is really trippy jazz.

I pimped one right when the cult kicked off, Waterfall Cities, check and see if you have it. If not, I'll re pimp it.
Catatonik
10-11-2005, 05:25 PM
I have Waterfall Cities
and I love it
but Shpongle is in a world above for psychedlia/trippiness.
cloin
10-11-2005, 05:27 PM
I never found Sphongle to be all that weird. I guess the reason I hold Ozric in higher regard is because they do it all with real instruments.
I was baked while spinning Shpongle for the first time.
The world never sounded better. The instrumentiation is beyoned anything I've heard
Catatonik
10-11-2005, 05:30 PM
I don't argue that, but that's not what I was reffering to.
The sheer, depth and ambience of Shpongles work astounds me.
Much like Jagga Jazzist, Shpongle uses everything they can get their hands on.
I thought you'd have more appreciation for that :P
Id like to get Waterfall Cities again if YSI works.
jkingler
10-11-2005, 05:39 PM
Waterfall Cities...Hmm...Don't think I have it. I think you must have pimped that when the cult was crazy and impossible to keep up with (which is pretty much every day from when it opened until it was impounded) XD
I love Schpongle, though, and PT is indeed trippy, now that you mention it. I just don't think of them as being trippy, most times. Or at least they don't come to mind when I think "trippy." They are beyond trippy, IMO. More like Hallucinogenic :laugh
Catatonik
10-11-2005, 05:47 PM
I was recently on a PT bender, and listening to Mesmer (1-3) and Metanoia (1&2) and I realized how amazingly talented they are at crafting psychedelia.
Just, awesome.
cloin
10-11-2005, 06:17 PM
I couldn't even begin to tell you how many instruments are used on Ozric's albums.
Catatonik
10-11-2005, 06:19 PM
Again, I wasn't arguing that, but I was talking specifically about the psychedelic aspects :)
That's all.
And Shpongle is more psychedelic than Ozric (if, admittedly less instrumentally impressive).
:D
cloin
10-11-2005, 06:22 PM
But, but, the guys in Ozric smoke joints on stage! Beat that!
Catatonik
10-11-2005, 06:27 PM
Dude
Shpongle writes songs about Hallucinogens..and are usually tripping at their shows.
You misunderstand me. I LOVE Ozric Tentacle and would KILL to see them live, but for sheer psychedelia Shpongle wins.
For pure musicianship, it's all Ozric, all the way.
cloin
10-11-2005, 06:29 PM
Also, remember that you're basing this decision off of one Ozric album, when they have a catalogue of something like 15, many of them being far more bizarre.
Catatonik
10-11-2005, 06:31 PM
I know
But I stand by it, I have heard all of Shpongles catalogue and I find it highly unlikely any band will topple them as my single strongest choice of psychedelia :)
On that note...we umm, are WAY off topic ;)

Gorillaz was one of the first non mainstream bands I ever got into. They then got mainstream, but effectively did not sell out. Always good.
Shpongles, shit man, I was baked listening to them just a few days ago and had to sit down I got such a trip.

Gorillaz kinda freak me out... the only ppl that listen to them at my school are a group of goths

I listened to them. When I went to Colombia 4 years ago they debuted on a Spanish anime network. They are pretty old to me, imagine my surprise when I see people proclaiming them as new and stuff.
I <3 people's faces when I tell them that I saw them years ago. The music video was them in a graveyard being chased by gorillas. Anyone know that video?

Their first CD was great but demon days is just amazing. xtacy+gorillaz= spiritual and mental enlightenment.

They're not too bad imo. I will say that my friend recently got dumped for buying his gf some Gorillaz stuff for christmas, but she didn't even get him anything anyway, and she didn't give him his gift back to boot.

I dig the Gorillaz.
Fire Coming Out Of A Monkey's Head is one of the trippest, coolest tracks I've ever heard.
I dig the Gorillaz.

Gorillaz rock.
I mean, Damon Albarn, Dan the Automator, Del the Funky Homosapien.
All equal greatness (see Deltron 3030 as well).

Fire Coming Out Of A Monkey's Head is one of the trippest, coolest tracks I've ever heard.
You have collided with truth face first.
They make the most orginal music currently, be it mainstream or not.

I've liked them since the beginning. There's something marvelous about cartooncharacters that have more talent and originality than 70% of the mainstream artists out there.
