They recently put up Naruto 101; a mini tutorial on Naruto for those who havent heard of it before. After looking it over, it seems they have left almost every element of the 'Naruto World' intact, from hand seals, to Ninja ranks. They do emphasize the school thing a little much, but i guess you are a student up untill Chunin/Jonin....anyway, just wanted to see what people thought about it, :P
(PS; Check out Sasuke's face on the Genin explanation! :laugh )

My thoughts exactly! Isn't it great their not trying to 'dumb down' the whole Naruto world to make it easier for little kids? They didn't change jutsus into spells, they didnt make Chakra into energy, or magic, and they even came up with decent names for the villages. I'm once again even more excited for the 10th...and every following saturday, :tem

Yes, Cartoonetwork did a good job with that, that was 100% accurate to original.
As for "Village Hidden in the Rocks" and such, the trailer showed that they will use that along with "Hidden Leaf village". Besides, "Village hidden in the blank" simply sounds better and more understandable in English.

No I mean, people are already bitching insanely about the preview, they'd go berzerk if it wasn't Hidden Village Of Leaf, come to think of it they might bitch about how it's not called Konoha. Hmm, I gguess bitching about bitching isn't good. :P

Oh, thanks, heh. They could probably leave every noun untranslated, and there would still be plenty of people to call it trash and edited up garbage...they already call it that without even an episode out yet O_O.....but whatever....this site thingy shows they remain true at least to an extent...good karma for CN & Viz

This is great. Especially like that they have the music during the feature.
Yeah its pretty good info and I'm glad the musics still in there. Anyway I always pronounced Chuunin as Choo Nin but the site lists it as Chonin so would it be Cho Nin? As well, with Jounin the site says Jonin so is that also changed?

The site says Chunin, not Chonin.
The second 'u' in chuunin and jounin is mostly just extra, it doesn't actually change the pronunciation.

Their romanizations of "Chunin" and "Jonin", as much as Pazuzu might object based on his spelling post, are closer to the standard Hepburn romanization for long vowels (they're only missing a macron or some other mark above the vowel). The second "u" in "Chuunin" and the "u after o" in "Jounin" are there so that they can be entered into a word processor.

Wow, That was a waste of 45 seconds. Did anyone see the 1 minute preview? That was much more entertaining then that.

Hey, that's a really nice little get-up there. Cool that they're keeping the whole "genin, chuunin, jounin, kage" deal intact. And "chakra" too! The map all looks good... though looking at Leafninja's map... (http://www.leafninja.com/country.php) there should be water beneath Fire Country, so that there's a bay there. Not that that matters of course. Just a fun fact! :nuts

I tend to agree. However, that only holds true if the reader can speak with a Japanese intonation and wif a little understanding of Japanese. I believe that if someone who has never been exposed to japanese language b4, the way it is spoken will be totally wrong.:P

overall, not TOO bad, but I think they mispelled jounin...........
If it's pronounced jonin in the dub, idk what I'd do......

I'm so glad that CN did something like this to help explain the Naruto world a little better.

Jonin, Jounin; It could go either way. Something about 'ou' together just extends the 'o' sound in the word I believe. Something like that.

Im not really worried about the story changing. Im worried about too much editing and censorship. Like Narutos Harem no justsu, most fight scenes, and especially Jiraiya how are they going to tell the kids on CN that Jiraiya is a pervert who spies on women? Part of his personality is based on perversion, hes the one I'm worried about, hopefully they might be daring enough too not change his character. He plays a vital role in the series.

Does it really matter?? Besides they don't spell much of anything in the show so how it's spelled has no relevance just as long as it's pronounced right.

God forbid the fan-subs ever miss a spelling.

When looking at the Naruto 101 you have to get the big picture. The simple fact that the ranks are actually correct like Chuunin, Genin, etc and are different then the american manga's ones like Journeyman. This makes me think that the jutsus will actually be named right instead of the horrible "Art of Substitutuion(sp??).

I know it's not that important, but after hearing the clip of the show on CN, and how they pronounced names, I fear that like everything will be like that, and the spelling just sort of added to my fears.....

They've had pervertedness before on Toonami *remembers Tenchi Muyo*, also as long as they have certain parts covered, it wont be an issue. Although I can see mothers showing some disapproval, it's not something that will likely be cut out if played properly.

The missing "u" means nothing. I mean look at it this way, in the US the word "Color" is spelt C-O-L-O-R, while in Canada it's spelt C-O-L-O-U-R with the extra "U". Either way its the same.

Thank you RockLi123. That this is something people are actually showing concern over is pretty sad in itself.

The only thing I'm worried about are younger people taking the whole chakra thing seriously... heh.
I remember when Gohan explained how to fly to Videl in DBZ. I actually took his explaination seriously and tried to fly. (C'mon, I was in the 6th grade... ) -____-;;

The concept of manipulating energy itself has been used by many martial artists, but overused and exaggerated by DBZ. But yes, flying, tree climbing, blowing up buildings, swirling balls of energy, Katon, not a thing to take seriously...BECAUSE THEY'RE ALL HOT BLOODED! HAHAHA!

09-11-2005, 02:37 PM
Well, ok i must admit Konoha,Ho,etc do sound better. But the people in USA would have no clue wtf Ho or Konoha means... Face it, it's better how they've done it!

I think they empahsized the school thing too much in the commercials too. I wish they hadn't, because my brother almost didn't watch it, because he said it looked dumb. But by the time things were over, he said it wasn't as bad as he expected. Now the trick is to get him to keep watching! :laugh I think CN did a nice job. I've been throughly impressed with the dub so far...
