This [relatively] new and intense support for Lex comes from his portrayal by Michael Rosenbaum on the WB's Smallville. His character is complex, dark, kind, twisted, confused, and misunderstood. He struggles painfully between the desire to do what is right and the instinctual evil that lurks within his soul. Perhaps destiny intends his nature to be dark, but his will is enough to combat and thrust that destiny aside until his friend Clark Kent's constant lies and his father's attempts to destroy him cause him to doubt in the strength of friendship and the worth of humanity. As his will is eroded and his trust shattered, you can begin to see his true nature leak from the cracks in his carefully maintained walls, and the pain it causes him to lose control to his other side and hurt the ones he cares about. Soon, however, nothing in the world will be able to shore the dam against his inner demons and when they break free - earth shall bear witness to the birth of a new reckoning.
