Yah...that's the question:
Where can I get Slam Dunk beginnin with volume 7/chapter 45?

I know that you can get it from the bot Neverwhere or Manga|Pouet at #lurker or #null (irchighway) but those bots don't work for me as I'll always get a DCC Pending - you can't do much about it.

So I'm looking for a direct download connection. Any ideas?

Thx in advance.

I don't have a direct download website for Slam Dunk... (I had a link before but not sure if it's up anymore and well can't remember it but it was viewable online and not sure if that's what you're looking for.)

But to not get the DCC pending try going to (If you use mIRC/Sysreset) Tools -> Options -> DCC and put it to Show Get Dialog. And then go to Tools -> Options -> DCC -> Ignore and Disable. Hopefully that will work.

Thanks dudes!
Didn't help me that much though.
I still have an DCC pending...I already did know how to set the options, Code but it didn't work.
Unfortunately Directmanga doesn't have all the chapters I wanted.

*sigh

However, I managed to put my friend "in row" - so he's going to dl the chapters per irc.

Again: thx - I appreciate your efforts!

I read all the manga a few weeks ago it was really good. The Basketball games were really well drawn.

The ending though feels like the manga-ka decided to just "stop" doing the manga and move on it does leave it open for the manga-ka to come back to the story if he feels like it.

The romance part wasn't finished either it feels unresolved. Hopefully the manga-ka well do "SlamDunk" "The sophmore years" lol :P

Why did they put Slam Dunk in Jump Super Stars? I though Slam Dunk was serialized in Raijin Comics?

pakku

No, it ran in Weekly Shounen Jump in Japan. Raijin (an American manga anthology) got the license over here, I guess.

Gutsu: I agree, Slam Dunk! is seriously one of the best mangas out there, it gets you sucked in even tho you aint really intrested in Basketball. The last game against Sannoh had amazing feelings to it, felt like i was reading a manga that was custom made for me.

Pretty good fanfic that continues on where the manga ended; http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1901103/1/

This is perhaps on of the greatest manga I have ever read. I really hope the author decides to continue it someday.

pakku
04-09-2006, 10:26 PM
I really can't see him continuing it unless he decides to sell out for the undoubtably enormous amount of cash he would rake in. He seems to have moved on to do more mature manga, which isn't a bad thing.

Besides, while I know there's a lotta people that disagree, I liked the ending. It was unexpected, and he ended on a high note. It's all about the showmanship...

NiknudStunod
04-09-2006, 10:29 PM
I loved the ending as well. You say the author has moved on to more mature manga but I think that would only add to the story. There is no reason he can't use a more mature view on this series. I feel that everyone grew up in the end so there would be nothing left but to take a more mature look.

Since peK bumped this and I just finished it yesterday..

This manga is definitely a good read. Although.. The games don't exactly flow right. Having played basketball myself in high school.. I'd get lost with the manga sometimes. It doesn't actually feel like a real game.

It does a good job of not going overboard with some of the players' abilities, though.

I would have liked to have seen the Tensai (:lmao) actually get good enough for Rukawa to have some kind of trouble one on one.

Scorpio3.14
11-06-2006, 02:22 AM
Absolutely loved the manga :amuse but I was a bit disappointed with the ending. Defiantly felt like it was ended prematurely. Like they were hyping up the Hiroshi vs Sakuragi match up since volume 21 and yet we never got to see it :( Would have loved for them to continued the manga. After reading it I never really got a feeling that it actually ended where it did and was left wanting more :doh

Still an awesome manga and among my personal favorites. I would recommend this manga to pretty much anyone. SO READ IT NOW!!! :P

delirium
11-06-2006, 02:38 AM
Oh yeah. I forgot about that match up. I would have love to have seen Sakuragi swat the hell outta dude. Or catch an alley-oop and posterize him. That'd of been real sweet. Since they payed Ryonan back, Shohoku should have gotten a chance to beat Kainan too.

But in order for them to have gotten any farther, the story would have had to change w/Sakuragi not getting hurt from that save. Some pretty dramatic scenes would also be cut out from that game. The signal for the ambush was hilarious, though.

pek
11-06-2006, 03:56 AM
I've also played Basketball, for 7 years actually and I did think that there wasn't much weird about the flow of the game, really. Ofc he overdramatized a lot but that made it only better imo.

Scorpio: I was just about to post that when I checked this thread. Now that I re-read the later part I do understand that Inoue more or less dropped it. There had been a lot of hyping behind the fat guy and he even came to see Shohuko vs Sannoh, it really seemed like a match up between fat guy and Sakuragi...

Though as Del is saying, if Sakuragi hadn't hurt himself the later part wouldn't be near as awesome as it was. The ambush signal = WIN, it had me laughing for some time, Minami & Sakuragi is actually my favorite duo.

I would have liked to have seen the Tensai actually get good enough for Rukawa to have some kind of trouble one on one.Nah, maybe a little trouble but if he had gotten too good it would've turned out like the typical shounen manga. Slam Dunk! is different because the main character isn't the best neither do he become the best, we are hinted that he can become the best though.

Scorpio3.14
11-06-2006, 04:15 AM
Meh, I don't think having them continue would have taken away to much of the emotional impact of Sakuragi's injury. As a long time basketball player myself and also a big man/rebounder like Sakuragi, I have hurt my back in B-ball games before and while it can be serious like Ayako alluded too most of the time you just need to ice/heat it for awhile and you can be good as new. If Inoue would have put like a week of down time after the Sannoh game he could have easily had Sakuragi recover. Sakuragi's sacrifice would have still had emotional meaning because he was still willing to risk his whole basketball career on that one game. I really just think the manga was ended prematurely for whatever reason. I don't know whether it was canceled by the magazine or Inoue wanted to move on to other manga or got tired of Slam Dunk or whatever, but you can defiantly see signs that the manga was originally intended to go longer (such as plenty of foreshadowing about future match-ups).

Still a awesomely great manga, its just that unfinished plot points are a little pet peeve of mine :doh

Love your ava, peK.

Anyway, Slamdunk is a very awesome manga/anime. I first saw the anime on television 2 and 1/2 years ago, and I learned a few things about playing basketball (dont get me wrong, Ima girl and I do have some interests in basketball. Although I want to get in the varsity team of my school, my mom doesnt want me to go. ya know why? "It's yucky!" <-I'm not kidding)

I'm planning to read the manga. *goes to the Slam Dunk Pimping thread*

Nah, maybe a little trouble but if he had gotten too good it would've turned out like the typical shounen manga. Slam Dunk! is different because the main character isn't the best neither do he become the best, we are hinted that he can become the best though.

That's kinda what I meant. At least good enough to score. What I was thinking was, if the manga would have kept going Sakuragi would have to have added a post game if he wanted to do anything against Hiroshi. So with both of them being diffrent type of players, they'd excel at what they do giving the other trouble. If Rukawa was out on the perimeter, obviously if he were to drive on him there's nothing Sakuragi could do. But if Sakuragi added a post game, with his strength, athleticism and jumping ability, there's not much Rukawa could do. Just give him some kind of chance.

Or maybe I just got spoiled with Ippo going from a beginner into a boxer about to take on the world. With each fight him learning something new to compliment his style. I wanted to see that with Sakuragi too.

Sweet, so we got ball players in here too. Scorpio3.14 plays PF. I was just like (Mr.) Miyagi and always played PG because of my height. But I was also a speedster with good ball handling skills. There wasn't a team in the league who could full court press against us (So you know I was loving that part in the Sannoh game). What did you play peK?

Ugh! Dammit I've been wishing to see a good series like Slam Dunk dealing with Basketball but none come close. But I've heard this manga is pretty good and it's similiar too Slam Dunk the character designs seem to have been inspired by Slam Dunk:

http://www.shonenmagazine.com/works/ahiru/index.html

You can see a preview of the first volume on the bottom third option that has the manga pic look.

I think the manga is called Ahiru and there's 13 volumes of it so far.

http://www.shonenmagazine.com/php/comic.php?sakuhin_id=34

Has anyone checked out this series out? Doubt it since it hasn't been scanlated need link to raws. I can probably have Townsocks (scanlator of School Rumble) start on this manga his been looking on starting a new series to scanlated... :amuse

I don't know whether it was canceled by the magazine or Inoue wanted to move on to other manga or got tired of Slam Dunk or whatever, but you can defiantly see signs that the manga was originally intended to go longer (such as plenty of foreshadowing about future match-ups).

I also got that feeling when those new players were showing up near the end of the series like they were going to be future opponents including that one tall tuff dude when he bump to Sakuragi or something like that can't remember too clearly haven't read the manga in over an year.

The manga in no way was cancelled it was one of the most popular Shonen titles of all time it sold pretty damn well from what I hear. It even got a lot of Japanese people to start playing basketball lol that's how popoular it was.

Anways Inoue could start again on the manga anytime it's not like it ended in their third year of highschool. There's still there junior and senior year left.

Really wish the romance part would been dealt with too...

Slam Dunk<3 One of the best mangas ever;] It shouldn't end like that :mad

Btw, the guy who's supposed to be the best player (forgot his name) didn't really seem all that to me....Imo Sendoh was more impressive (and much more cooler...he should be the one playing in Sannoh;p)

tictactoc
11-20-2006, 07:19 AM
Nah, Sawakita>>>>>>Sendoh in one on one. Sawakita was the same type than Rukawa, but stronger. However Rukawa understood why Sendoh was a better player than him for his sensei, because he was able to play perfectly with his partners. Sawakita was more the individual type, dribbling all the opponents and marking alone :/

Holla. I just learned that Inoue drew the "sequel" of SD. (it's not really a sequel but just a few camshots of what the characters are doing 10 days after where they were left off at the end of volume 31) More amazingly, he drew it on a blackboard in a Japanese high school. This happened in 2004 where he held a comic special event to celebrate the fact that SD has sold over 100 million copies and to appreciate the support of the fans. Looks pretty sweet, and Inoue looks cool (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eL2S7VyiSGc&NR). :P

Yeah, that sounds like a load of bull. And it isn't like it was rushed. All the loose ends that needed to be tied up were tied up. If it were any longer it would have started to get boring and repetitive. Hell, as it is it's probably a little too long.

Lol Mitsui,

before or after he's having a break? :lmao

Rukawa is bigger than the manga, people never appreciate legends, when Rukawa dies, his impact will be bigger than MJ. You'll see. :hurr

Rukawa fangirls would be the only ones that would be upset, but by then they would have moved to Mitusi-chan's FC so they won't care either:LOS

Rukawa sucks, bitch couldn't deal with it:LOS

That wasnt Maki. The first time i read it i thought he did pass it to Gori but then i saw his jersey and went :facepalm

Kainen vs Shohoku was probably my second favourite game behind Sannoh vs Shohoku. I like the Gori flashbacks in the middle of games.

What's this, no Slam Dunk thread around here? :sun

If there is one don't blame me, it's the Index fault, it's not listed! :zaru

Anyway, I just finished reading it and it was beautiful! :cry And awesome! :gar And also epic! :yell

But I have one question SD fans might be able to answer [SPOILERS ALERT], did Takehiko end the series earlier than planned? I'm fine with the final game not being the OLYMPIC FINALS or something as exaggerated as that (after all, being more realistic than most sports manga out there is one of SD strengths), but it certainly came out of nothing. :blink There was material and room for more development before the final match, and I guess even a need for it, by chapter 200+ I was like "Hell yeah, things are getting serious now" and then "WAIT WHAT 50 CHAPTERS TO GO?!"

The lack of build up to the epic final showdown and a storyline more straightforward than I'd like it to be kind of saddens me, it had potential to be even greater. :(

Still top notch stuff, though. :pek So, if anyone knows if the series was disrupted by something or Takehiko really did plan it to end like that, I thank you for the info.

Yeah there is a thread. Too lazy to find it for you though.

As to your question. Yeah it seems that way. Inoue never tied up Hiroshi's story but i prefer the ending the way it is now. If it continued Sannoh vs Shohoku wouldn't have the same raw emotions that it had. The end of the game wouldn't have been as powerful without Sakuragi's injury. It was best that it ended there instead of dragging on.

Inoue did a small follow-up piece called Slam Dunk-10 Days After. You can get it on Mangatraders. It adds a bit of closure.

Hiroshi vs Hanamichi would be a great match...too bad it looked like Hiroshi's team sucked.

I wish Hanamichi would have closed the gap between him and Kaeda Rukawa and then had one epic match with him, win or loose. Anyway, great anime and manga. Hanamichi was treated as a genius but his growth and character were well handled.

I think the ending is really good and dramatic, better than having Sakuragi a NBA level player, as it shows he has matured and is patient to wait and go through rehab, etc, really good.

It's not really the ending that bothers me it's the build up. Whether the build up led to the second round of the interhighs or to a later round or tournament doesn't matter THAT much, but I wished it led to a game with more background than "we're facing the strongest team around". Long time rivals facing each other, former friends, an adversary that beat the team you wanted to face... It's all kinda cliche but it works, it makes the match more meaningful than just proving they're strong.

I can't help but wonder what a legendary manga it would have been if Takehiko had taken his time and made it more fleshed out, like Hajime no Ippo, which explores everything and also structures it really really well, but on the other hand lacks Slam Dunk's depth.

Ah, can't have everything. :(

Yeah, I read it, and relieved some of my need for more Slam Dunk. But it still feels like Inoue had the best ingredients but made the quickest and most basic recipe he could.

Wade

Rukawa grows at the same rate as Sakuragi, and his athletic abilites are not below that of Sakuragi as well. Remember Anzai has said will have to train much more than Rukawa to catch up with him. If he trains just as much, the gap will not shorten. And Rukawa is an hardworker. Furthermore, Rukawa is widening the gap right now, because Sakuragi is in reeducation. I tell you guys, Rukawa will stay ahead for a looooooong time.
