Kayne is ill-informed, and an idiot. Bush was the one who personally called the governor of Louisiana and prompted her to issue the mandatory evacuation order for New Orleans. Had the governor issued the mandatory evac order a day earlier, the city of New Orleans could have used its some 569 buses (New Orleans Regional Transport Authority had 364, New Orleans Public School system had about 205) to evacuate all the poor of New Orleans.
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — In the face of a catastrophic Hurricane Katrina, a mandatory evacuation was ordered Sunday for New Orleans by Mayor Ray Nagin.
Acknowledging that large numbers of people, many of them stranded tourists, would be unable to leave, the city set up 10 places of last resort for people to go, including the Superdome.
The mayor called the order unprecedented and said anyone who could leave the city should. He exempted hotels from the evacuation order because airlines had already cancelled all flights.
Gov. Kathleen Blanco, standing beside the mayor at a news conference, said President Bush called and personally appealed for a mandatory evacuation for the low-lying city, which is prone to flooding.
In other words, blaming the Federal gov't, especially Bush is inconsistent with reality. I ask you, what do you think would have happened if Bush had not appealed for a mandatory evacuation?

For those too lazy to click the link, here's the speech:
"I hate the way they portray us in the media. We see a black family that says they're looting. We see a white family that says they're looking for food & you know it's been five days because most of the people are black & even for me to complain about I would be a hyprocrite because I try to turn away from the TV because it's too hard to watch. I've even been shopping before even giving a donation, so now I'm calling my business manager right now to see what's the biggest amount that I can give. And just to imagine if I was down there, those are my people down there, so anybody out there that wants to do anything with the setup the way America is setup to help the poor, the black people, the less well off as slow as possible. I mean the Red Cross is doing everything they can. We already realize that a lot of the people that can help are at war right now fighting another way and they've given them permission to go down & shoot us."
And then near the end he mutters "George Bush doesn't care about black people", and the look on Mike Myers' face is priceless.
Not commenting on the politics of the situation, since I've already covered that with people on places that aren't NF, and I don't feel like debating.

The way in which Killa Cam will understand what I think about this. Kanye West mad yo. He mad. He mad cause he instead of complaining why doesn't he do something about it. He mad cause he does not understand just like other huge natural disaster events the city of New Orleans and the state of Louisiana was unprepared to deal with this type of disaster. Sure they show people looting. Heck that is what people do. Does that mean black people are bad?! Well the white folks decided not to loot. They focused more on getting food and supplies. You can't blame the white folks for not deciding to loot?! Its sad. Really but that is uncalled for blaming people who is helpless through the current situation. But like I said Kanye just mad. He MAD.

There's no way you can say white people didn't loot. All the media shows is black people looting. I've only seen 2 pictures of white people "finding" items. If I was down there I'd be looting too. I would loot small expensive items, food, and supplies. Fuck looting plasma tvs with no where to put it. I do wonder if the situation would be handled differently if the majority of the people were white.

Sorry if I weren't too detailed with it. I just don't like going into detail with this whole political issue. I mean this is just dumb. It's not easy being a leader of a free nation. Even if your not making a lot of the big decisions. It is hard.

Even though this is a ridiculous topic to debate, the underlying topic is not. The federal government hasn't done nearly enough for those in New Orleans. For years the federal government has denied funding to strengthen the levees, and during the disaster it would've been possible to save many more people if the federal govt. issued an order to requisition helicopters from neighboring states to drop sandbags to strengthen the levees. Even now, the federal government is doing far too little. They aren't dropping food for hungry people, they aren't giving supplies to trapped, starving, and sick people, and those whom they are helping include the 20 thousand people that they intend to house in a baseball stadium for two months. TWO MONTHS.
How easy would it be for the government to requisition hotels in the vicinity to house these thousands of homeless? It's not like they're saving money by not paying to help them now - they'll be funding their survival for the next few months at the VERY least.

You can't totally blame the government for not doing more. I'm sure while they new it was going to get hit and hard. No one was thinking this damage was going to happen where the city of New Orleans had to be fully evacuated cause it is not livable. From Friday to Late Saturday the cone was from the western part of Florida to as far as Mississippi. It wasn't until during the day Saturday that the path was possibly/eventually going towards Louisiana. Neighboring states had to hunker down as well and prepare for the Hurricane. This did not only hit Louisiana so don't think this is just a Louisiana thing. Mississippi and parts of Alabama were also affected by that Hurricane. The Levee's surprisingly wasn't going to do any difference. If there was anything that could have been done to help the city is if it were full mandatory evacuation for the city. That was it. There was nothing that was going to prevent the damage. The Levee's would have not been finished by this time even if they didn't cut the funding. The damage is shocking and right now they are just trying to get those people out to safety. Sure they could use nearby hotel's instead of the stadium. But it will be up to the Hotel to do such an action. Government can't force them they could ask them but can't force them.

You people you shoul,ve renamed this topic to Geoge Bush is a complte crackhole fo rnot doing shit to help peopl cause he's afraid to waste a million or more to save Homeless who are suffering like hell. Also that movie was hella funny he's like "Geoge Bush doesn't care about Black people!":mad and the white guys like:blink "Ok...." and they're like please call....:laugh I laughed like hell after that."It's mesed up they won't let them stay at the hotel though.
I would of looted the stores, If I was sitting in sewage for 7 days with no sign of real help, if I had kids starving, or are dehydrated. Its not like they can pay for it even if they had money. Its not like there is a person so deicated that they are going to start working at the flooded super market. Ok if they started stealing electrical equipment then that would have been rediculious. They need food and clothes, you think a store full of this stuff or a few stores of stolen good is going to really matter. DO you know how much its going to cost to re establish NO now?
People are like wow look at the black people shooting each other and looting, thats a small percentage, I am sure the majority down there want to just survive. If you put poor white community(yeah like the goverment would let that exist) in the same situation, some junky white man, who hasnt had his herion fix, who finds a gun, you think hes going to use it for good?
At this point its useless aruging, there are still PEOPLE (regardless white or black), down there, and they need to be saved.

Gaarafromthehood's wife take on this (she's black, we both live in NYC):
Bush does NOT care about black people. The media shows him only caring for white ppl that is in Missi. and not on Lousiana. In the pics they show him on a plane crossing to lousiana, but he wasn't there. He only went to the white communities to show support.
Gaarafromthehood - Maybe it's sub-conscious, but it's happening. When the tsunami hit, all the help got around the world in 1 day, but to go from a state to another state, it takes so long. I think that the help has been slow, and that the most affected have been the black people, and that's something that nobody can't deny. They are suffering with nothing to eat, desperate, and you are just letting them stay like that. Looking like savages like if nobody cares about them.
I think that's a shame on American History

I dont agree with him and I have power, lets use it!!!." that should apply to everyone really, except for the power part. plus, if you're opinion is being shaped by a rapper who's ego is the size of the world should really take a good look at your self.

I see where you coming from with this, but I just think Kanye is voicing his opinion because he has the medium's attention to do so, and I think he voices a lot of ppl's opinion of how things have gone down in Katrina's wake. I'm not saying that he's right or wrong, but he's touched by it and he's a black person and he has an opinion on it. He got cameras and he wanted to voice it. I'm sure he's going to help out a lot of money, so we can't just tell them shut up don't say anything when we expect millions of dollars from them(or he's just giving on his own). I think he's entitled to voice it.

Anyway, I think if this was a city where the majority of citizens were white, it would have been handled better. How the hell can you say that it isn't the federal government's fault?! It's their god damned job to protect their citizens! How is it that they can drop food and water from helicopters in the middle of nowhere, but they can't do that in New Orleans. Oh wait... They can. It just took them four fucking days to realize it. I have family in New Orleans. I'm worried about my aunts and uncles. This is disgusting! People aren't animals. People shouldn't be stuck out in Louisiana heat, on rooftops and bridges with no food! They knew a hurricane was coming. They had an idea of how much damage it would cause. They have no excuse. People are dying in the street. Dead people are floating around in the water. Its almost Sunday and the storm was when? Last Monday? I have never been so dissapointed in the country in my 14 years of life.

Also, Bush cut funding for something to do with wetlands, so the water didn't get soaked up like it should've.

They also said that if Bush had half a brain, the hurricaine wouldn't have had such a hugely negative impact.

"With the improved resolution we count 255 buses in that one lot. That means at a capacity of 66 on board, 16,830 New Orleans residents could have been evacced out in one trip. Even if you have a lower capacity per bus, say 50 per bus, you're still getting nearly 13,000 out in one run. In an emergency mandatory evacuation, you could probably get away with putting more than 66 on each of those buses.
When he said that the buses are now expenses instead of assets, this is what he meant. Not only are those buses ruined, their disuse resulting in lives lost, but now they're spilling oil and gas out into the already polluted water. A spark near that slick could cause yet another fire and a whole new set of explosions."

George Bush is a politician; therefore he will "care about" anyone no matter what race, nationality, or sex, so long as they vote for him and share his views on major political agendas. But i give him enough credit to assume he wouldn't purposly delay aid for New Orleans just because a large percentage of the people there don't share his views. IMO it was caused by lack of communication between the local, state and federal goverments.

I swear, it's really pissing me off how people are so ignorant to the underlying problems over in Louisiana in the aftermath of the hurricane.
Ignoring the important points and instead doing things like attacking Kanye West for voicing his opinion in the matter.
Shikamaru-sama hit the nail on the head when he showed two different yahoo reports on the incident. One showed a young black man looting a store.
The other showed a young white man "finding food'" at a store. It's as simple as that.
Bigotry at its best yet people don't want to acknowledge the racial undertones of the whole situation.

Black don't have it easy in modern American culture because of: ignorance of black culture (seperation from their own heritage and pressure to assimulate), white's innate feelings of superiority over blacks, steriotyping, etc.
I had a kid in my class today mock a black kid's African last name when the teacher read it aloud, right in his face. :oh
Racism in general is everywhere, and the majority isn't doing enough to help the minority's disadvantages, nor respect and understand their culture and heritage.

OHMAGAD! Not THIS again! I saw this video clip a few days ago! Kanye West is cool and all, but he shouldn't raise in issue like THAT on a public charity show aimed on HELPING Lousiana out! Mike Myers expression was so priceless haha!
Honestly, people shouldn't make RACE an issue during this tragedy! Next think we know, the racial issue will overshadow the tragedy itself when that was the focus in the first place. Instead of noticing miniscule "racial inequality" during this time of crisis, they should just concentrate on aiding the survivors and find more corpses.
Yes, I do think it's sad that Lousiana didn't get help until such late notice, but it's probably not because of RACE. Bush probably reacted too late (blargh) because he was concentrating more on Iraq and other countries, or he just assumed Hurricane Katrina wouldn't be as horrible as it really was (pssshhhhhhh).
THIS IS REALLY SAD INDEED...............

I'd buy that shirt but since I'm white, if I were to wear that and since most people didn't see the kanye west thing, most people would think I was being racist or something.
Nothing racist about that. I need to get me some white friends and convince them to wear this..

I knew this topic would stir up some hard feelings about the situation in New Orleans. Let's just say that the government was slow to respond in this situation. Is George Bush racists? Let's just say that the Bush's hasn't been a great champion of the down trodden *looks at his health services get cut continously* =/ I really don't know don't know, and saying whether he is or isn't, is not going to change the fact that if it were some other area, aid would have gotten there much earlier. Race plays a factor but SES (socio-economic status) plays an even greater role. It just happens to be that a majority of the impovershed were Black, so a great injustice was done to the impoverished (which a majority of them was Black). I mean 70% of the population is Black in that area.
Some people say FEMA was slow, because it lost it's independent status and was part of Homeland security. But then again, wouldn't that fall under Bush's watch, (I'm assuming he wanted to strengthen Homeland security). Being here in Florida, Bush and aid for that matter was here much, more quicker than in Louisinana, it didn't help, that Bush was here very quickly in a better off area such as Palm Beach. -__-
But the main tragedy is that the people there who were struggling, living from paycheck to paycheck are now homeless, many more bodies will be found as waters recede and a culturally rich area will take many years to recover. Doling out the blame has it's place, but taking care of those people now is of the utmost importance.

I'd love to wear that shirt but it'd be hard to get away wearing something like that where im from, everyone would be all, "OMG what does that mean, you are racist!!!!" not that it really effects me i just don't want to have people making jackass comments everytime i wear it. but great shirt, i am white and i'd so wear that.

It seems for me that Bush didn´t care for anyone, New Orleans has a long time asked for money to stronger the wall that crashed. If only Bush had given them the money nothing like this would have happened. Bush is shit.

i dont think bush is racist i just think he is stupid and lazy. he didnt want to leave his vacation and since black people arent in his voting demographic he didnt bother. not like theyre going to vote republican anyways, except americans in general of all races did care because these people are americans regardless of race or voting patern. thats where he fucked up. oh and i love how the head of FEMA now releived of duty got the job based on no experince in terrorism or natural disaster but on his friendship to the Bush family. you always get the government you diserve i guess.

But I don't disagree with kanye completely. Bush probably don't really care for black people, but I don't think he purposely left them there. But yeah he's just a stupid fuck who didn't want to leave his vacation.

It's wouldn't have mattered if Bush was President or if it was some one else. The situation was handled badly, really badly and because he's President he's going to get blamed. I don't think Kayne should have said that just because he is a celebraty and people are going to follow and agree with him whether he's right or not. Still the situation down there is f'd up and it's still to early to blame anyone.
But I would like to ask anyone if they saw Bush's trip to Biloxi. If he's such a strong racist, how was he down in Biloxi hugged and kissing a black women and her daughter. This women walked right up to Bush and starting crying all over him and he hugged her and walked with her and hung out with her for at least 10 minutes. If he was truly a racist, I don't care if the camera's were there or not, he wouldn't have stayed with her like he did.
And one other point to make... black, white, pink and purple pocka dotted, these people were WARNED to leave. Even today on CNN there is a MANDATORY evacuation and there are people that are REFUSING to leave. Dumb butts who won't leave. The blame is everywhere not just Bush.
Shinigami-Isshin
09-11-2005, 07:56 AM
the people who couldnt leave(not well off people)were black. you can warn someone all you want, but if they dont have the pecuniary funds to do that....
i think he doesnt care about black people. he was hugging on people because he was televised(and in an area with NO flooding) plus he was next to TD Jakes, one of the most powerful charismatic christian preachers in the US.(different on-air hugging) media is more powerful than self feelings. His VP's daughter is a lesbian but Cheneys wife wont even comment on how she feels on the subject farther than "i dont agree with the president" full stop. so even if he was a racist(although i doubt that, i just dont think he has blacks on his mind like clinton or carter or kennedy did) he still wouldnt show that on TV, not in this day and age.
ok the "it couldve been anyone" theory only works if some other president decided to go to war in a foreign country(this is not to bash bush for that) if they didnt go to war then they wouldnt have had to take money from these other state projects.

interesting...
NOT!
i have white friends who wish blacks would stop "playing the race card" because of this event, and black friends who wish whites would stop "ignoring the injustice".
to me this is super boring. and yes, i will tell you strange narutofans why.
because it is. the fact is bush doesn't care about too many outside of his friends and family and those who will keep him comfortable. can you blame him? how much crime goes on your hometown? how often do you ignore panhandlers or bitch about other peoples problems?
i am not ashamed to admit i don't care about the people on the other side of the planet.
is it because the majority are black that they aren't getting the aid they need?
the question is irrelevant. it might be because they're black. it might be because they pay less taxes. it might be because they're southern. but you know if it happened in florida or california, things would be different.
the fact is BUSH DOESN'T CARE. why? i don't care. stop asking for reasons. you're worse than exgirlfriends who keep asking why you left. what matters is you've been dumped. move on.

That's just plain, utter bullshit.
I've lived in Texas under Bush as the governor before, and trust me, neither the Texan government nor Bush never did anything to discriminate against any race. In his 7 years of presidency, he never did anything that the general public would base their accusations of him being racist off of. I've said this before many times and I'll say it again: it's utterly retarded to immediately blame EVERYTHING on racism without any considering secondary (more legitimate) reasons, no matter how big or small the injustice.
What Kanye did just pissed me off. If you hate Bush, it's ok. Half of the country does, anyway. But to go on live, national television and explicitly accuse someone of being racist without any proof other than a filmsy, media-brewed conspiracy is ridiculous and inane. He's merely perpetuating racism, rather than opening the country's eyes to it. See how the white men were booing him while the black people were applauding him during his performance at that football game? What good that that do for gaining understanding between races?

well, most black people, or maybe not most, but a lot of them will talk trash to people of other races, especially white people, and as soon as someone retaliates they start crying racism and playing the victim. A white guy could walk into a black neighborhood minding his own business and get harrassed by the people who live there because he is white, then he comes back with friends and puts a beat down on the people who harrassed him in the first place, and it suddenly becomes a hate crime. There are alot of black people who wont even admit to thier own faults. Bill Cosby is going around the country giving speeches to black people on how they need to start making thier own effort to progress in life and society instead of just playing the victim, and alot of black people are mad cause he is saying that and keep insisting that they cant do anything, even though other races come into the country and make progress on thier own. I think alot of black people are just raised with the "im a victim of the man" mentality and just accept what they are born into because they have always been here in america and have only seen one side and believe thats all thier is.
Still, its possible that bush and other government factions may have delayed stepping in to help with stupid excuses. As for the "I've lived in Texas under Bush as the governor before, and trust me, neither the Texan government nor Bush never did anything to discriminate against any race." comment, its not like bush is just gonna go out on public tv and say "I dont like black people." In order for a public person to discriminate against a race successfully, and by that I mean without getting busted or just having an excuse, first, they cant say anything, and second they need the opportunity to do so. Katrina is the perfect opportunity if that was his intention.
Either way, bush is a nutsack who is too incompitent to run a business, much less the entire country. Just cause he was born from a billion dollar family he gets all these opportunities, which is bs. I dont see why it isnt a requirement of the President of the U.S. to be compitent and do the job properly. Why should a crime be required to get the boot? Job performance and accountibility should be part of keeping the job. Bush was the national joke when he became pres., but as soon as 9-11 happened everyone respected him even though all he did really was say a predictable speech and send people to war. the entire counry is on a downward spiral right now, but thats just what I think

well in some cases that is infact true, racism as an excuse has become something i think is more and more done than noticed, by media etc.
Still, its possible that bush and other government factions may have delayed stepping in to help with stupid excuses. most of the more welthy americans didn't even knew new orleans was occupied by sucha large population of afro americans, the line between poor and rich can go very far, it's just that it all comes to light since there is something going on like katrina, besides that the media and such would be dumb to even mention anything about it by giving away a bad image of there patriotic country, bah.

bush isn't the real doer here, those are the people who control him, like dick cheney, the people that get everything to know 20 min before he does, that make his decisions, that control a world force.
9/11 was merely an excuse to invade iraq and begann a strict policy there, and secure resources. . .

I don't think it's too much to ask that your government come and help you when a naturall disater hits. In my opinion Bush doesn't care about anyone but himself. If he or anyone else in his admistration cared about humanity (white black whatever) the recovery efforts after Katrina hit would've been shift.
I do think that race played a role. If a predominantly affluent white area had been hit the response and even the preparations leading up to the storm would've been different.
