I just slumped over this character on the UXN site

http://www.uncannyxmen.net/db/characters/showquestion.asp?fldAuto=947

His name is Shooter and damn he does look like Vash does he not? His weapon is a cybernetic armgun, and that reminds me of Vash also?

Freaky covinsidence or ripoff?

Well, maybe they noticed all the characters in Trigun based on American comics and wanted to pay the debt back in kind :)

I'm gonna go with complete ripoff.

Mainly because it says his first appearance was in Wolverine #154. When I tried looking up that issue, it turns out it was drawn and written by non other than legendary comic hack Rob Liefeld.

Rob Liefeld, for those who don't know, has almost no originality (or talent, in my opinion) whatsoever and almost every character he's ever "created" is usually a blatant ripoff of an already established popular character.

The only difference is, this time, he decided to steal from overseas.

Lol that looks like vash and Knives younger brother "knockoff"

The resemblance is striking, almost perfect. Also "Shooter" is also a gun expert with the same left bionic arm(or was it right arm in Trigun?). Can anybody say "lawsuit"?

well even thought it may seem like they do look the same think of how long X-men have been out and then think about Trigun so if theres a lawsuit for anythin it would have to be the creators of X-men sueing the makers of Trin gun but i do see how you guys think that these 2 look identical :p

Nope.

Trigun was released in Japan in 1998. According to that link, this particular character wasn't created until 2000.

...and the best they could think to call him was Shooter, (shakes head) for fucks sake, that's even worse!

Somehow the artist managed to sap Vash of all his unique (and uniquely American, I'd say) cool. Marvel really messed this one up.

It would be awesome if the X-men went to whichever planet Vash were on in some sort of crossover, though. Hmm, that gives me an idea for an OB thread...

well any of you Kenshin fans already know but Jineh in RuroKen was based off of Gambit and then the one guy with the long arm in the Jinchuu arc was based off Venom. Watsuki actually said that though. he didn't try to make it his own.

He does look like Vash. Only that freaky grin scares the shizzle out of me.

Yeah, probably, except he looks sorta Fillipino.

The glasses of the comic version of Vash make him look more of a spaz.

Agreed.

In fact, he looks like he's high. With his mouth wide open and all. :blink
