i think the creator of bleach, based Soul Society on the saying " death is only the first part of the journey" or something like, " life after death" .
i think the creator based the SS on those sayings. In the shounen, near the beginning Rukia did say that the SS is something like heaven. And the SS is where people that die go. so the creator made a SS as a place where shinigamis and whatnot train and have adventures and lives. based on those sayings, he wanted to emphasize that life after death.
what do you guys think?

Well I guess it is just Heaven. Nothing special about it. You don't really here what people say heaven is actually like do you? So this just one idea of what it may be like

SS is still kinda of confusing. Cause if you die on earth you dont age in soul society. but people can be born and grow up and die in SS. and i think dead humans might be able to become shingami. :confused

^One would guess reincarnation into the human world, based on the "sand-glass" explanation of equilibrium between the two worlds by Rukia. There must be a balance of souls, supposedly.

hmmmm. that too makes sense.
Dead humans only have the ability to become shinigami if they possess rietsu. Some people in Soul Society do, some others just end up in Soul Society without, thus, they don't need food to survive.

The Sand Glass idea sounds correct. because remember the shingami had to stop the quincys from destroying all the hollows for the fear of damaging the equilibrium that is sustained by the shinigami

ye but about the sandglass effect,,
so if a shinigami dies he gets reincarnated rite, but what happens when that reincarnation dies, he goes to SS but doesn't the soul stay the same as the original or does it take the shape of the reincarnation, and doesn't the soul have like memories of his past life in the SS.

He based it on Dante's Purgatorio.

Yeah there is that whole thing that most people believe that there is reincarnation. But when one is recincarnated they have no memories of their past lives. One of the many things why people believe there is more to link between Ichigo and Kaien. Reincarnation also brings up that there truly is no real heaven in Bleach universe since if this holds true it will be more like Budha in which there is no such thing as Heaven.

yes, but how can a soul have its essence erased, cause the memories are the essence of the soul, unless there is some greater god tamperin with our souls but erasing our memories as we get reincarnated.

What still confuses me about SS is that when the inhabitants die there, where do their dead souls go? :blink

i would say that the soul has everything taken out of it when it dies, like memories, reitsu, and shape. And then the empty soul is taken and put into another living body in the real world.

as for the divisions in Soul Society, they seem like they could be based on the shisengumi of old japan. Like the divisions kenshin encountered as the Battousai, since they were based off of the ones from history.

I think Kubo wanted to portray strength of mind and the spirit world is perfect for that. The more powerful personality you possess, the more powerful you are as a shinigami.
