I'll start (expecting to be flamed):

Hated characters that I like:

Hidan: I know a lot of people hate this guy. Ok, so I haven't actually seen in in action on screen or in the manga yet. But from what I heard about him, he seems like quite an interesting character. And from what I've seen of him, he's quite handsome! And those abs, man (drool...)

Orochimaru: Dude, he's one awesome villain! He's creepy, intimidating, and sends chills down you're freakin' spine! I know I'm supposed to hate him as a villain, but I can't help admiring his character. He has a presence about him, kind of like a Disney villain!

Kabuto: He's cunning and clever. Plus, he had that sort of "nerd" appeal to him.

Loved characters that I hate:

Hinata: Little mary-sue! I swear to god her avid fans will come up with any excuse to make her seem more incredible than she really is! I didn't hate her in the old Naruto series, but she was never one of my favorites. Since Shippuden, she's been hyped to death so, well lets just say, it didn't exactly help matters!

Sasori: Ok, so maybe HATE is a strong word for him. I just disliked him a bit (when he was alive, that is). Funny, you'd think me being an avid Kankuro fan, I'd be a Sasori fan too, huh? Wrong! Though I'll admit he was pretty cool in the Hiruko puppet and it's impressive that he can control 100+ puppets at once, making him a formidable opponent. Granted he did make Kankuro's puppets and he did call Kankuro "talented". But I just found his character boring! He really didn't have much of a personality at all! And I find his character design generic and unoriginal. You've seen one bishounen, you've seen 'em all. And he doesn't look like Gaara! Just a cheap rip-off, if you ask me. I know a lot of girls find him hot, but I'm not one of those girls! He's too feminine-looking for my taste! And that face on a puppet body? Ick, NOT attractive! I just couldn't get into him! Sorry, Sasori fans!

I like Sai, Jugo, Choji, Kankuro, and Kabuto.

I don't care for Sakura, Jiraiya, Kiba, Neji, Anko, Ino, Shiho, Tsunade, Shizune, Kimimaro, Zabuza, and Kakashi.

I don't like Hinata, Kisame, Suigetsu, the Raikage, Karui, Konan, Nagato, and Tobi.


Though I suppose some of those aren't exactly unusual opinions. I also dislike Sasuke and Orochimaru.

Edit: Also, Shikamaru has never really interested me, which is strange because I usually like characters with some of the qualities he has.

Shizune- Ok well I don't think people really hate her, but she doesn't get the attention she deserves. Yal need to get up on that Shizune shit. Watch out for her, she's comin back.

Well I'm not completely sure exactly how popular or unpopular all the characters are but I think a bunch of typically unpopular characters that I really like are Kabuto, Kankuro, Chouji, Karin and Hidan. I'd say Sakura too, because I know she's been getting a hard time lately, but I still think that her lovers outnumber her haters.

As for popular characters that I dislike, I can only say Hinata. Then again, like Sakura, I think she has more fans than haters.

Like: since you said you dislike Hinata, I have to have her as like. A Mary Sue is a perfect, all around girl. Hinata is far from perfect. She may be kind, sweet and beautiful, but her weaknesses are strong as well. She is similar to Naruto in many ways. I just don't understand why she can be hated. It is like hating a puppy or something like that.

Dislike: Other Akatsuki members (except Itachi). The bad boys don't do anything for me.
Dislike: Orochimaru (though I don't know anyone who does like him) such a cliche villian that doesn't go away...sigh...
Dislike somewhat: Sakura and Sasuke
I respect them and their places within the story and cheer for them, but they are not on my favorite lists. Too much darkness and selfishness for me, but they have the potential to better themselves in my eyes.

Sasuke Uchiha: He gets a lot of hate, but he has the best storyline in Naruto and also has an awesome personality and abilities.

Tobi: Even some Akatsuki members get annoyed by him XD, though i find him really funny and awesome!

Sai: No way is Sai overrated, he is really awesome because it is really funny how he offends people all the time without realising, also he has really cool jutsu, and i even really like his name.

Hated Characters:

Hinata: Really irritating how she just acts so stupid about Naruto, fainting every time he comes near her! Also the fact she is just a much much inferior version of Neji and has nothing to make her stand out from any generic character.

Pain: I just hate him, he is just really boring and annoying! He gets far too much respect from everyone, and i also hate him for the fact he went and killed one of the best characters to ever be in Naruto.

I Like Sakura (though she is hated by most people), Sasuke (him too), Hinata, Naruto, Kiba, Shino (Am I the only one who doesn't find him creepy?), Kankuro (I find him funny!)and Gaara, Temari, Sasori and Itachi.

As for hated, well, there aren't many characters that I really hate, except for Danzo and Madara.
Hate is such a strong word. I dislike Sai though. I disliked him ever since he first appeared. And Kabuto. I never liked him either.

Three of my favorite characters are widely disliked, Orochimaru, Kabuto, and Karin. I do assume Kabuto is most of the most disliked because he's a sneaky snide one. xD But that's one of the key things I like about him, the smartasses are the ones I enjoy quite a bit. Orochimaru I like for similar reasons and of course he's disliked because he's such a baddie. But he also has that whole love to hate thing to him going on.

As for Karin, people rage about how useless she is in combat and how she acts around her team. But I respect her for how she sticks around the boys no matter how dangerous things may get. And she's so forward in her affections that it is great. xD I also adore Chouji but I do not believe he's disliked that much. He's such a sweet kid.

As for characters I dislike but are liked, I do only actively dislike Kakashi and Sasuke. It feels like Sasuke has a fanbase as large as a hatebase sometimes. What I mostly dislike about him is the way he gave up on his friendship. It is a lack of faith even though I do think part of what he had done was completed in order to protect his old teammates. As for Kakashi, I usually like the lazy guys. But something about him bothers me, maybe that feeling that he still lacks motivation somehow.

Some characters which people seem to hate/indifferent but I really like:

Sai: think he's a really original and interesting character in naruto. Enjoyed all episodes with him, and I really look forward to see him again and to follow his development as he learns more abt human relationships:love

Sasuke: It seems that he is the most hated character for many ppl now currently. Though he also appears to have a large fan base, Well, I like him a lot because he's the most intriguing out of the main characters in naruto, and I really want to see what he becomes in the end, even if it is something really really really bad.

Choji: He has a permanent place in my heart ever since the sasuke retriveal arc in Part one:cry

Orochimaru: I don't like him personally, but I really admire him as an excellent villain who is pure nefarious, evil, and self-centred...smile-big

Hmmm.. may get flamed for subsequent content but hopefully not.... *gets under cover hurriedly*

Some characters that people can go crazy over but I just feel indifferent/dislike:

Deidara - I don't get the hype about him.. I feel he's just a guy who's rash and immature most of the time. And his only type of justu is to mold explosive clay and make remote controlled bombs, like a modern day terrorist. Rather boring compared to the rest of the akatsuki who were really weird and cool.

Hinata- Why are ppl so crazy over her? All she does all day is to utter Naruto-kun in a breathless voice in various tones (which was most excellently portrayed in a shippuuden omake some eps ago). She really needs to get a worthwhile goal in life and stop mooning around naruto at every opportunity in such a love-sick manner. Even Karin has more spirit than her even though she's also perverted for sasuke. In addition, Hinata is such a weak character even though she has the byakugan.

Sakura- I really dislike her in Part One because she seems to do nothing but think abt sauske irregardless of anyone and anything. Which is really self-centred. Since Part 2, she has come a long way and I began to have some respect for her. Though I still feel indifferent abt her. I know many people has come to like her though.

Kabuto is tied with Kakashi as my favorite character in the series. And, I'd say he gets more concentrated hatred per panel than a good majority of the cast (obviously excluding characters which were basically created to direct reader antagonism; i.e. Gatou, Fourth Kazekage, etc.). What I mean to say is that even though he's a pretty minor figure with regards to quantity of appearances, he's mentioned with distaste nearly as often as major characters who are also generally hated. Similar to YK, many of the reasons people give for disliking him are actually a part of what appeals to me: his smug posturing, his sneaky ambiguity, his fondness for kicking people while they're down, etc. But, overall, his entire character interests me, even to the point of essay-writing in the past. And, I only see that interest growing over time.

Other characters which I have a lot of love for even as they are hated by the multitudes: Sai and Hyuuga Hiashi.

I like Sakura, who seems to get a lot of hate based on her bratty schoolgirl attitude in part 1, which she is no longer that same character. She's grown, and has had character development, and other than Naruto, I find her one of the more interesting characters I look forward to reading about.

As for any characters I hate, it's really Sasuke. He really hurt and betrayed his friends, and left them in order to only have his revenge, and even now, it's all he now knows. He doesn't even feel human anymore...only personified hatred. Which I guess makes sense, since one of the biggest themes in Naruto is hate.

As for Hinata, I'm quite apathetic towards her character. I really want her character to be more than just *Swoon: Naruto-kun.* Until she develops on her own, I can't really say much about her, or even know why she's so popular with so many people....

Mine are Hidan and Sasuke.

I love Hidan but most people hate him over him killing Asuma. I personally never had an interest in Asuma whatsoever, so I didn't care who killed him or who didn't. I wasn't going to turn on an exciting, interesting, good-looking character design over that, not to mention I didn't think Hidan did something so horrible since Asuma was attacking Hidan from the start.

I also think Sasuke is a wonderful character but people hate him because he's got thoughts of vengeance, and they don't like that he wants vengeance for two reasons: one, they don't care about the people that Sasuke wants to avenge, meaning his parents and clan, and two, they liked the people he wanted revenge against (Itachi and Danzou).

I also like Karin, The Sound Four and Sai, and I've seen them have a lot of haters too.

A character that I like, but most people don't would be Hinata. She isn't my favorite, but she is pretty cool. only because I like Hyuugas

i hated orochimaru at first in part 1. then in part 2 with all the backstory + akatsuki backstory, i started to sympathize with the "bad guys"

Well I don't really dislike anyone in this series, so I'll just limit it to those in my top 10 that are disliked by many:

I'm not sure how much they are disliked, but out of my top 10 I think they are the least liked.

Well, my favorite character is Sakura. I think that should tell you everything you need. There's a lot of characters I dislike that are pretty damn popular. Characters like Sasuke, Itachi, Kakashi, Pain, Minato....

Like but others dislike: Hm, it seems every character has at least some ardent fans, so I don't know. There are characters that I like a lot more than they are by other people, if that counts. Zetsu is fantastic, and Kakuzu and Hidan are massively entertaining. I also have a huge soft spot for Chiyo.

Dislike but others like: Probably Sasuke. I hate him because his stupid, immature and selfish. I also somewhat dislike Hinata because she's boring, tedious and weak. Aside from those two, all the other characters I don't like, I'm just plain disinterested in.

Well I have allways liked Sakura, and even with recent happenings in manga, I still like her. I understand people start hate her, for what he said to Naruto in recent chapters, but even before that. He wasn't, and still isn't a pointless character.

I hate Sasuke mainly because he acts like a little kid. He only do things how his emotions are. Very stubid I think. And Kisame is just boring, and I don't see him very interesting.

I can understand why people hate them... but I have a tolerance level thats over 9000 for those two. At this point, it would take a lot more than their current screw ups to make me hate them.

As for characters that I hate that people love, I'd go with Hinata. She's overrated and it gets annoying when all the other kunoichis get dissed because they're weak except for Hinata because Hinata has the Byakugan.
