the negima anime just came out today, it was subbed by Ishin. So far it doesnt seem that great, the characters look off when compared to the manga and the music is very annoying. But hopefully it will get better

official name is "Mahou Sensei Negima" original manga is done by Ken Akamatsu, the creator of Love Hina. It's about a ten year old wizard who is sent to Japan to teach an English class in an all girls acadamy.

Is anyone watching this anime?
I downloaded the first episode today, and i like the series.
Small summary of the first episode:

It's about a 10 year old boy, Springfield Nagi, who is a teacher in Japan.
The school hes working at, is an all girls academy.
When one of his students almost falls of a high stair, he saves her with a magic stick.
Another one of his students sees this, and stands still, totally suprised.

*END OF FIRST EPISODE.

I haven't had a chance to d/l the anime yet, but I've read a bit of the manga and it's not too bad at all. The creator is the guy that did Love Hina, so if you liked that you'll probably like Negima.

You may be disapointed if you are going to compare it to the Negima manga. I was a little disapointed, but kept an open mind till the end. I enjoyed the anime, but it's nothing compared to the manga, much like love hina anime wasn't as good as the manga.

What do you guys think of Ken Akamatsu's latest creation? Although Love Hina will always be Akamatsu's masterpiece, Magister Magi Negima can give Lova Hina a run for its money. The manga is up to vol 11 chpt 102. The anime is completed at episode 26. They are both so different! I was so pissed when I heard about the anime's ending arc. So sad...Anyways, if you know what I'm talking about please give me your thoughts.

Only 26 episodes? Egads. 'Course, it doesn't really matter since the anime royally butchers the manga(the cake episode was pretty damned funny, though, I'll give 'em that).

0_0 i remember before i saw Negima has way more than 26 episodes, like 50 something, but now i check anidb and it says 26, maybe they are going to split and make the rest as season 2, but anyways 26 episodes is pretty good cosidering that it takes a long time for a episode to come out.

I like the manga better. The anime totally butchers the genius of Akamatsu. Just like Love Hina. For goodness sakes a main character dies in the anime!

Asuna does have different eye colors in the manga. It's a condition in real life. It's not supposed to be that noticeable though. In the anime the distinction is so obvious. It's supposed to be a lighter shade of the other.

And SPOILERS:
In the anime, Asuna dies at episode 23 only to come back to life at episode 26. It was such a sad day when I watched the episode yesturday. But don't worry, the anime totally butchers the manga and nothing like that has happened. The anime is onlhy 26 episodes long and the manga is still going. I can't wait for the next issue!

Your typical school-anime + Harry Potter - Annoying English Accent = ???

It didn't sound to good when i first heard about it But I really started to get into the series. Anyone else take a look at it? I just recently finished watching the series and i thought it was well done ^_^;

BTW: Does anyone know the whereabouts of Episode 23? It's mysteriously missing from Animesuki and none of the subbers seem to have it :(

Mahou Sensei Negima was, to put it bluntly, blunt. It's not that it was paticularly bad, It's just that they used a twenty yen budget on what is possibly the GREATEST GODDAMN HAREM MANGA EVER! Did you know that the manga is still going, or that in the manga Asuna doesn't die, or that Eva is actually cool? And that they had actual fan service? So yeah, read the manga. www.staptozmo.com has it all there. I'm not allowed to give you the actual link, you're going to have to figure this puzzle out on your own.

Sorry for reviving this after months of being buried, but I've been into this series, both manga and anime. I finished reading 139 chapters in the manga, and I'm watching the anime now.

26 episodes, apparently. I'm afraid that the anime won't be as good as the manga like I think it would be, and I'm afraid that it would be another anime failure derived from Ken Akamatsu's work. *lovehinaanimesucked*

So far, I've seen 8 episodes, relatively close to the first chapters of Volume 1. I had expected some changes at the start, but so far, it's good. However, I may say otherwise after watching all episodes...

I myself just finished all 26 episodes over three sittings... and i have to say it started off alright but the ending really bothered me, it seemed just a really random odd way of ending off the series... and there was no Kotaro... what the heck?

Well, seeing some of the images for the second season, it looks to me like they are going to include some bits of the latter manga story line... im not going to get my hopes up though (although ill still be wishing for that Nekomimi Meido fight) :laugh

Hm.. I didn't think the Negima anime was that horrible, I've seen much worse. It was just bad luck that some of us (myself included) had been reading the manga before they had seen the anime. So many things we were looking forward to never happened, so it was disappointing. If I had never read the manga I probably would've thought it was better.

Ya, Im one of the few Negima fans who didnt think the anime was that bad. Yes, it was dissappointing if you have read the manga and the ending was definatly bad, but over all it wasnt too terrible. Just too "meh" IMO

Although, I will admit that the anime did do one thing better then its manga counter part. Its got minor manga spoilers in it though for those of you who havnt read the manga: The whole Yue/Negi/Nadoka thing was done a lot better in the anime then in the manga. I loved the moment at the end of episode 24 where Yue tells Nodoka off for acting the way she is and then confesses to Negi. It was sooooo much better then the whole Library scene in the manga where Nodoka finds out about Yue likeing Negi and Yue goes into extreme emo/angst mode that is way out of her character IMO. Then she is forced into kissing Negi for the first time to make a Pactio with Negi instead of doing it under her own courage as she does in the anime.

Anyways, I would say like 90% of the anime was decent, its just the ending and a few other parts that were really bad. So again, overall I rate it as a "meh" adaptation, not horrible but definatly left a lot to be desired. Especially knowing how great the manga is and how much potential the anime had.

My disappointment of the anime is because I was expecting too much from the manga.

Though, there is one episode that I think was good enough. It's the episode featuring Sayo and I think, it's better than the chapter dedicated for her in the manga.

My disappointment of the anime is because I was expecting too much from the manga.

I pretty much went in expecting it to suck since Ive heard sooo much bad things about the anime so my expectations were almost none existant. I guess thats why I didnt absolutely hate it *shrugs*

But ya, the anime dosnt even come close to doing the manga justice.

Though, there is one episode that I think was good enough. It's the episode featuring Sayo and I think, it's better than the chapter dedicated for her in the manga.

Ya, I liked the Sayo thing too. They actually gave her a backstory, something they have yet to do much of in the manga. They also gave her a little more personality IMO. Sayo is another thing the anime did well IMO

Although I did miss the scene where everyone though she was evil and Setsuna and Mana try to hunt her down :P

And what's more, the first installment had less fight scenes. I seriously loved spellcasting in the anime, but it was few.

But according to the info you shared in the manga thread, it seems like the second installment will have more action. Hope that's true, though.

Ya, IMO the two major problems with the first season was 1. The pacing, it was way to slow and 2. A lack of magic in general, both fighting and other. They focused way to much on him being a teacher and his relation witht he girls, and not enough on the magical nature of the manga. Thats what really made me interested in the manga in the first place :nod

NEWS ON THE SECOND NEGIMA ANIME SEIRES!!!

It seems the new Negima!? series is going to start on October 4th. However, it will neither be a 2nd season (continuation of the first season by Xebec) or a remake of the first season. Negima!? appears to be a completely new series loosly based on the manga. So basically it will have the same characters and stuff, but the plot will likely be very different.

This info is coming from scans included in the Chapter 145 raws released today and translation info from Sushi-Y over at the AQS forums.

It's not. Think of it as psuedo-Negima. The characters are the same, but the story and settings are probably not related to the manga Negima at all.

From those two pages on Negima!? in the ch145 scans, we learned a few things:

1) According to rumors, 3-A's students will each have multiple cards. Unlike the pactio cards of the original manga (which is basically a tool used to summon artifacts), the cards that appear in Negima!? will each have specialized abilities. You can see some of the cards in the background.

2) New characters(?) will be making an appearance. Namely, those two odd plush dolls on the first page.

3) Notice that the anime is going to be airing in an afternoon slot (5:30PM) under TV Tokyo (notorious for their strict rules over anime contents "not suitable for children"). This immediately shows that this is going to be a much more "all-age" anime aimed at a mainstream audience.

I really dont know whether to take this as good news or bad news :huh Could turn out good or could be a complete flop. Its really hard to tell at this point.

Shariyakugan
08-06-2006, 03:30 AM
This is indeed troubling news, meh i'll give it a download anyway.
Let's hope for the best, maybe it will turn out better.
And the characters should be colored differently from the first season, more like in the manga colorings, I mean Hasegawa with darkgreen hair and Shizuna-sensei too. More like this http://img225.imageshack.us/my.php?image=negima151024qh4.jpg

The more information I hear about the upcoming second installment (thanks for that, Scorpio), the more curious I'm getting.

Yes, it's hard to tell if these new info concerning the anime will, in any way or another, contradict, be better or totally mix-up the original concept. For sure, Akamatsu would not like his original work to be overshadowed by this new concept.

To elaborate, the animation looked very good and while some character designs were a bit different they all looked very nice. The story seems to follow the manga fairly well and is based on the events in Volume 7. Its confirmed, there is fanservice!! and its good fanservice!!! (Konoka x Setsuna FTW!! :P). Okay, the pictures on the manga discussion thread was actually screens for the OVA. My bad, I really thought that it was for the second anime installment. :sweat

But if the second installment will have the same look as the OVA, that will be good. And hopefully it will...

The OVA has a story that is beyond the events in Chapters 61 and 62, obviously an original one.

They even changed the part where Asuna's sword should have appeared, but instead, retained the harisen... I don't mind that though.

It seems like they made most of the girls a little daring than normal. And yes, Setsuna was having a nose-bleed because of sudden pervertedness. :P

Hmm... can't wait. :amuse

From the OVA Im expecting atleast the animation to be very good or atleast waaay better then Xebec's version. Also from what little we say it seems like the action will be better and the magic will look a lot better. I have a feeling the new season is going to focus much more on the action element of the series and a little less on the echhi harem comedy aspect of the series, but we will have to wait and see.

Either way Im a lot more psyched for it then I was before smile-big Only thing that sucks is that we have to wait another month and a half for the new anime and 2 months for the first OVA.

Looks like its just the preview. Opening it with BT you see that there are two video files inside one of which is labeled "Opening" and the other "Promotion" which I assume is the opening video to the OVA and the 5 min preview for the OVA. Plus the file sizes are too small to be the actual OVA unfortunatly :cry

So, far I've watched up to episode 20 and I'm loving the series. I actually found out about this series, when I came across the thread for Negima!? (TV) which is supposedly a remake of the original. So, I figured, if the remake sounds interesting, why not watch the original and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. All of the characters are distinct and the storyline is pretty captivating and entertaining. And piece by piece you get to learn about each character. I kinda knew something was up with Konoka but couldn't shale the feeling until episode 19 when I found out what's the deal with her.

I also just finished watching the preview for the OVA and I have to say the animation is gorgeous and I can't wait for that either :drool

I have to say class 2-A covered every single possible anime girl type, anyone could ever imagine xDD

I remember the best part of the series was the last few episodes. Up till then, the anime seemed kinda dull to me though. I am really looking forward to the new Negima coming out.

Glad you are liking it Samatarou ^__^ The origional anime gets bad mouthed a lot because the manga is so VASTLY superior, but if you havnt read the manga the anime is still good because atleast the characters still shine through. Although some others would disagree with me on that lol :P

I cant wait for the next season and the OVA's. The animation looks top notch :nuts I hope Shaft dosnt let me down.

Anyways, who are your favorite characters? (since there are so many good ones to choose from lol)

Yeah, I've never read the manga so, I have no point of reference. I don't know why the anime series gets a bad rap, but it's undeservedly so.

My favorite characters would have to be Nodoka. I love how she's so shy :P
Evangeline also warmed up to me since she ended up helping Negi and Co. when they were in a pinch...plus,being a vampire and being able to use magic is so kickass.

Asuna's okay >_>

But how many people know's about Negi being a magician? :S

It seems that quite a few students know...(I literally lost count)

First off, I started watching this series because I thought it was just going to be the harem type of anime (comedy, roamnce, ect...), but did not expect that the stroyline plot would be that of an opposition (i.e. the group that wanted Konoka's power or Evangeline wanting Negi's blood to remove her curse), so that was in my opinion a bonus.

It's good that you actually like the series, Samatarou. In your case, it was the anime you got to see first, and I'm quite surprised that you actually liked the anime, contrary to my opinion of it. Well, simply because I read the manga first before watching the anime.

October's still weeks away, so I guess I have to remain patient until the first episode of the second installment comes...

I get the manga>anime all the time (i.e. Eyeshield 21, Kashimashi, Ichigo 100%), so I'm not surprised, because in some cases it's true, which is why unfortunately I always try watching the anime first so, my expectations aren't dashed.

Because I tried watching Ichigo 100% anime after reading the manga series and I wanted to hang myself after episode 6, because I disliked it so much.
All, I have to say is that the anime series is pretty good. It's not in my ttop 10 list, but I've been pretty entertained. And the OVA looks like it's on a whole other level, so I'm really excited about that...as well as the remake for the television series coming this October :spaz

As for Setsuna, I think the manga shows her warming up a bit more to other characters (slightly I believe) even though still not as much as Konoka.

Kaede = so dense I have to laugh.

I tend to forget a few but...it's sorta like when first getting into Pokemon, I honestly couldn't remember more than 10 or so names but as time passes...well you get the picture. :lmao

Not to mention it's always easier to remember the names of your favorites.

also without spoilers, Setsuna is a lot more warm in the manga. She is awesome, definatly one of my favs ^___^

Well, in the anime, Ayaka's hair wasn't blonde - it was banana-yellow. :P

You know, a Negima fan's favorite girl changes as he/she reads more chapters and watches more episodes.

In my case, Makie was my first favorite (she's very cute, actually). Next was Nodoka (I like her better with her bangs down). Then during the Kyoto arc, it's Kitsu... er, Kazumi (since she resembles Love Hina's Kitsune) and after that arc, Setsuna (samurai girls rock!), then Chisame (since we're both into computers)... and right now it's Misa. :amuse

At first, I thought it was impossible to memorize all 31 girls in Negi's class. I was dead wrong. :P

I saw the preview for the first epsiode and Asuna's voice as well as Negi's kind of make me nervous about the dub VA's. Then again I felt worse about the Naruto VA's in the beggining and I've come to accept them.

It's just kind of cool how this week starts a decent week of anime

Sept. 4th

Monday-Friday (p.m. EST)
8:00 Kodocha (saw the first episode awhile back and was at first dissappointed...but after watching a few more it's more interesting, and I'm glad I didn't give up on it because of the animation)
8:30 Fruits Basket (wanted to download this title for awhile, but since it's airing...might as well watch it)
9:00 Case Closed (Always loved this series, and I watch it every week night)
9:30 Spiral
10:00 The Galaxy Railways
10:30 YuYu Hakusho (I have the entire series on my hard drive, but I'll still watch it on television, whenever given the chance)
11:00 Slayers
11:30 Negima (I finished the series about a month ago, but rewatching it in dub might not be that bad)

Saturday-Sunday

8:00-10:00 Lupin movies
10:00 Baki the Grappler
10:30 Kiddy Grade
11:00 Blue Gender
11:30 Tenchi Muyo GXP

CN/Adult Swim

Sat.

9:30am Pokemon Battle Froniter

12:00am Bleach
12:30am Trinity Blood

Yeah, they totally left Kotaru out of the mix, not to mention Neg's martial arts training but that's what you get when you try to squeeze eveything in a 26 epsiode series. It's not the animation's fault if they were limited to 26 episodes. I'm sure they would have done a much better job if they were allowed to expand beyond just one mere season worth of episodes. :noworry

Before I watched the anime, I never had the idea that it was going to be a 26-episode series, until I checked out all info about it while watching. And after I did found out it was really only 26 episodes, I was kinda expecting that a lot of parts in the manga will not be included... including those parts you mentioned.

It was the final arc that turned me off. Really. That was so unexpected. :P

And now the remake isn't going to follow the original manga storyline so that practically destroys hopes of seeing a manga-to-anime adaptation.

Anyway, as I said, I'm still going to watch it.

Honestly I hoped that the remake wouldn't follow the manga storyline, because we know it won't do it justice because the manga series hasn't finished. It's still very rare to find an anime that could rival it's manga counterpart. I could probably only think of a few titles (Mai HiME, Mai Otome, Full-Metal Alchemist and Black Cat).

I want this remake storyline to stand on it's own. And perhaps be as good as the manga storyline.

If the manga were to be animated it would need more than 26 episodes. I would love if they gave it the same treatment as a serialized series like Naruto or Bleach although they should avoid Naruto like spoilers at all costs >_<

Because now that I've read the manga I wouldn't have minded if they waited a year or so longer and then start animating the manga without a episode restriction like 26 (or at least push it to 52-69 episode series) :-(

Atfirst I was upset that the new series wasnt going to follow the manga. I really want to see some of the later series animated. However, now that its sunk in I am kinda glad that the new series wont follow the manga exactly (as long as its done well that is, but we will have to wait and see for that one).

Lets face it, if it follows the manga it will ALWAYS simply be in the manga's shadow to Negima fans. We will all be like "They didnt do that scene right" or "they changed this and that" or whatever and it will just take away from our enjoyment of it. Then when you are talking about the series you have to constantly check yourself because not everyone reads the manga and you don't want to spoil anything for anyone, and etc... This way I can just enjoy the series for what it is, a Negima anime and not the Negima manga animated if that makes any sense XD

However again, this is all banking on Shaft doing a good job on the new season :P Although I have high hopes that they will though. Gotta love blind faith :P

Baka Rangers-->The Great Dummy Force??? :-(

Kaeda's voice is disappointing as well :cry

That's exactly why I didn't want the remake to follow the manga, because the manga will always remain as a measuring stick of it's success or failure, but if it's a standalone, then it can be critiqued without having to be compared to the original source.

And now that I'm up to chapter 145, I'm kinda glad that the anime will have it's own storyline. Here's hoping for a great series :thumbs

Yeah, they managed to change alot of the dialouge. Of course he isn't an English teacher, but teaches poetry. And Ayaka's dialouge doesn't make her sound like a loli shotacon, but more of a suck-up :shakefist

But at least they didn't edit out any of the scenes in the dub. They just slap all of the anime during the 8-12 block with a TV-14 rating to avoid having to edit xDD

Greed Island kinda disappointed until the final fight with the Bomber. Anywho...yeah, I suppose they could do that, but I always wondered whether they could give the figthing scene in Negima Justice especially the takahata/Negi fight in the first round v_v

Ok, granted this is only based on the two short scenses in the OVA preview, but I think Shaft might be able to pull it off and give the Negima fighting some justice. Negi chanting the spell and his hand glowing and then his lunge at Sharku Fei (:P) was a very good representation of Negi's Battle Song IMO and then Asuna's Pactio transformation and attack looked really nice. From what they have shown so far I think they got the whole magic fighting thing down. But then again "what they have shown so far" isnt really much at all XD

Other fights I would want to see animated would be Mana vs Ku Fei, Asuna vs Setsuna (Nekomimi miedo FTW :P), Kaede vs Sanders, and Setsuna vs Eva. All of those fights were awesome and I thing would be beyond awesome if animated well :nod

I'm not expecting any of the fights from the manga be animated in the remake. As long as it shows more fights than the first series with the same intensity as those in the manga, I'll be at least fine with it. :)

As for the OAV...yeah, the scenes where Negi was in the water and fought off Ku Fei looked amazingly clean and crisp.

i personally didn't like mahou sensei negima. i mostly like all harem/ecchi animes, but ecchi with a 10 year boy isn't my type

It's a pretty decent series, but the manga is much better, IMO. The ecchiness factor was only a part of the series, but the anime kind of stripped the storyline of the core action i.e. martial arts, ki, etc..., that's why I'm hoping the remake will touch upon thos aspects this time around.

I think thats what actually sets it apart from most Harem anime/manga (well that and the magic/fighting). Plus there are only a couple girls that actually like Negi in that way, most of the girls just like to play around with him because he is cute and non-threateing. Then there are some that see him as a "little brother" type. This isnt so much of a "pairing" type harem story as it is a harem parody IMO.

Other than Nodoka, Yuui and perhaps Mackie, I can't think of any other girl who may have a real crush on Negi. *unless you count Teenage Negi* :laugh

And the fact that he's younger kind of creates a barrier for the most part because Negi is too young to realize any true romantic feelings, so we won't have to face any real arkward moments. If the main character was older we'd be questioning him left and right about why he hasn't made a move on any of the girls yet xDD

In a way his young age is kind of like a stop gap measure to insure the romantic feelings don't get taken too far xDD

Well there is Chachamaru too. Although I dont know if she really counts :P

Again, I think Negima is really ment to be more of a Harem parody (kinda like Yakitate!! Japan is a Shounen parody). I read that after Love Hina, Ken Akamatsu wanted his next manga to be an action/comedy shounen instead of another Harem, but due to Love Hina's success his publisher was pressureing him to do another Harem manga and Akamatsu finally caved in and made Negima with both Harem elements and Shounen elements. I think him making the main male lead being 10 years old was kinda Akamatsu's way of making fun of things and have a little fun with it instead of making a real, traditional Harem manga again.

I don't know why people would not like this attempt at flipping the switch on the traditional anime harem. I think the creator does a good job at poking fun at all the elements of an anime harem parody, and has about 31 students (which touch upon almost every single female character genre known to anime/mangadom) to work with.
