I don't get these threads. Either:
-pronounce it like Japanese do, ie like in anime, or
-pronounce it whatever you want

The things I feel like doing to people who pronounce it "ho-cage" (as in "bird cage") are probably illegal, so I'll just say that everyone should JUST PAY ATTENTION to how it's said in the anime.
For those who need to be reminded, it's basically like everyone said,
"hoe" (as in, the farming implement)
"ka" (the first half of the word "kahn")
"geh" (short and choppy, like "get" without the "t")
If you want to get uber-precise about it, the "ka" and "geh" should be said quick and choppy in a even rhythm, and the "hoe" part should be held for about twice as long (as either the "ka" or the "geh" individually), since it's technically two syllables in Japanese ("ho" and "u") which has the effect of lengthening the vowel ending of the first syllable.
So, (technically) four syllables: *---*---*---*

God, would someone please close these threads? We're already at like three freakin' pages on the how to pronounce "Naruto" one, and now this?
It's not as if people stopped posting when people who actually know Japanese speak up.
Everyone just listen to the animé and make up your own spelling for the term, fer christ's, :bored

Actually, no Hokage is three syllables. There is no long o.
For the rest you are right. By the way, the IPA is [hokage]

As far as I know, everything in Japanese is pronunced as it is written (in Italian it's the same so I find almost no difficulties), this makes no difference. It is, as Gejimayu already stated, Ho (like in hoe) - ka (like in car) - ge (like in get). Closed and left for people who wants to know.
