Anyway, I heard the gameplay will be alot like the original final fantasty tactic which is great because I'm also a huge fan of FFT. However, I'm not sure if they meant that the game setting will be alot like ffTAdvance or the gameplay within, or the combination of both.

There isn't a set release date, and I don't think it will come out as soon as April because it hasn't even been released in Japan yet (unless you were talking about a Japan release). I believe this game will be released before Kingdom Hearts 2, however, so here's hoping for a quick release.

I doubt the gameplay will be like FFT--I watched a gameplay video and it's still turn-based like all the FFs before it; however, as BakaKage mentioned, there will no longer be any more random encounters, and the battle system has been slightly tweaked and therefore offers new possibilities. I think what you mean is that many of the staffers who worked on FFT are working on this game, so there will most likely be similar elements (and of course, there are the same storyline aspects--Ivalice, the new races, etc.). Anyway, I'm definitely excited for this game, as I couldn't play FFXI and it feels like it's been an eternity since FFX was released...T_T

Oh, and Ssj3_Goku...what things did you dislike about FFX? In my experience the biggest complaint has been the Sphere Grid level-up system, but I thought it was innovative and a refreshing change from the usual EXP system. Also, I thought the new summoning system (Aeons) was pure ownage, and vastly improved from previous FFs. Switching out characters in mid-battle was a good addition as well. I think its weakest point was the storyline, which was mediocre at best, but it had its share of cool characters (Auron and Lulu pwn). I never played X-2 but it's obviously chock-full of fanservice, although I've heard it's actually a fairly good game, and solves a few mysteries about FFX's ending.

The thing about FFX-2 that I think turned away most fans was the overall cheesiness of the story. It had a very "Charlie's Angels" theme and a lot of people didn't like it. I loved the game of course, as it was a little bit longer than X, and the battle system was very well implemented and kept you thinking.

I'm looking forward to XII as any fan of the series should be, but I wish they'd change their main character design. The last three games have had the same basic character and it's getting tiring to look at the same person for another 40 hours. Bring back a character that looks more like Squall or something, enough with these blonde pretty boys!

Hahaha, I'm also looking forward to this, although I don't have a PS2. :( I'll just steal my cousin's. :laugh Anyways, apparently many of the summons in FFXII will be similar to those in FFT, from some research I did a while ago. There's probably tons of new info, but I haven't been too interested the last couple months.

The game I really can't wait for is KH2 though. I think that's why I'm replaying KH. I never beat it, and I thought it was easy the first time I played it, so this time I'm playing Expert mode. xD

XII is a back to pure RPG, along the lines of Chrono and old school FF series (including 9)

Thanks for posting the article, I've read quite a few things on FFXII but I did obtain some new info. I think the main reason they're saying it's similar to FFXI in gameplay is because the worlds are now so much more interactive. In previous FFs (and many other RPGs) there is a set map and set paths for you to take, and the camera can't be controlled. Here you can run around in a large visual world much like current MMORPGS (like World of WarCraft) and encounter enemies (no longer randomly), but it's still a single-player RPG. I think that was the point they were trying to get across.

Personally I think it's a step forward, and adds much more more realism to the game despite its fantasy aspects. I'm also glad that Square is exploring new ways to implement the battle system which has remained the same for several years until FFX.

Indeed. Like I said, I believe FFXII's progress is much farther than Kingdom Hearts 2, therefore we're likely to see it released first. (Sadly, KH2 won't be released until even later because no company would release two of its most highly anticipated games such a short timeframe within each other.)

Yeah..I heard the new date will be in the 4th quarter so I'm assuming it will be released in Dec. (Some game sites posted it in Q4).

LOL, true. But then again, I'm sure they'll have all of the usual details: chocobos, moogles, "Cid", the Final Fantasy theme, summons, airships, etc. And, since Nobuo Uematsu and Hitoshi Sakimoto (composer for the Final Fantasy Tactics series) are collaborating on the project, I'm sure the soundtrack will be epic as always.

Heh, can't blame 'em though, right? It's the way so many societies in the world work, there seems to be set roles for both men and women, with "proper restrictions" on what they can and can't do. I think the people of current times are fighting against that, but it seems that sort of thing hasn't really spread to good ol' RPGs. You're right, an RPG with a female as the main probably wouldn't sell as much as one with a male lead, even if the game itself was a masterpiece.

I don't want to get into a huge conflict about gender roles, and I'm not exactly a professor so I don't have any reasoning to back up my statements anyway. But I think being a male or a female has absolutely nothing to do with making a great game.

my take on square is:

I do believe they have not generated the type of games that made them famous in the nintendo days in the playstation era. I know people will disagree with me and actually I want people to disagree w/ me. I just feel that square has lost touch with the very fundamentals. X was awesome but I felt that having no world to explore was a let down. The story was good to a point, but really I felt it really wasn't up there with the previous games such as final fantasy 4, 5, 6, and 7. The voice acting was a big plus with me and I thought they did a hell of a job.

ff XI was actually a good attempt but it should NOT be called ff 11. it doesn't deserve to have a roman numeral. I have the game ( i got it as a gift) and I have spent hours upon hours on it. I have lost months on ff11 but really...all I was doing was leveling up for the past month. Final fantasy is all about story ...it is beyond story driven and final fantasy XI did cut it for me. It was fun talking to alot of people online and we all had to work together to get to a higher level, but I wanted story and I didn't get a strong story, but then again...I knew what I was walking into.

If its true square did delay ff 12...then Im not too sad. They need to make sure that game is the best. Back the to glory days, where the characters really stand out. Final fantasy IX and X had the worst characters I can recall.

If final fantasy 12 is not living up to the level in which square has put themselves upon...then...just remake all the old ones. How about remaking final fantasy 4, 5 or 6 over with ps2 graphics and CG...that would rule. Not that anthology crap.

Yeah, I agree with you almost totally. X would've been great with just a bit more work (explorable world, a better voice actress for Yuna so she wouldn't sound like she was going to pass out every time she talked, etc). Final Fantasy X was "okay" which is unusual for Final Fantasy. Same with IX. X-2 just sucked in almost every aspect it could... I feel the only things in had going for it were graphics and the job change system.

I'd have had no problems with XI if it wasn't XI (if it was "Final Fantasy Online" or something, like Tactics is "Final Fantasy Tactics"). I still wouldn't play it, but I wouldn't feel as neglected. (Er... :amuse )

What I'm starting to feel is that where FFXI appealed to the crowd that played MMO's, FFXII looks to appeal to the KOTOR crowd with the axing of random battles and such. While I don't think I'd mind the seamless battle transition, I'd really like to have something on par with VII and VIII, a game I could lose myself in and not care about anything else in the world. Square-Enix has really been putting out a lot of Sub-Par games lately and it makes me question whether the merger with Enix really was in their best inerest.

*Shudders* Yes, I've known about good ol' DoC for awhile now, but I'm really afraid to acknowledge it as a Square game about my favorite FF character of all time. We've already got great games like Resident Evil and Devil May Cry; DoC needs to have something which makes it stand out from those games. It's obviously not an RPG, which, like you, I'm worried they're gonna completely screw it up. Sigh...well, at least we know Advent Children is turning out pretty well. Let's hope they don't make it a theatrical release and have another Spirits Within disaster on their hands, and just send it straight to DVD and UMD.

Well, as we've seen in trailers so far the movie is synchronized with the Japanese seiyuus; I'm not sure how the American dub will do. But I for one would be fine with subs, especially after I've gotten accustomed to reading 'em watching anime for so long. ^^;;

It's been comfirmed that Final Fantasy XII is gonna be released next year on March 16th 2006 in Japan!

Anyway, Dragon Warrior VIII, and Radiata Stories, both coming out this year, will probably be way better than FFXII..... but we can always hope it will relive the glory days of FFVI and VII which were masterpieces.

Oh well, I'm not too worried about it, I got Makai Kingdom to tide me over until DWVIII and Radiata comes out.
