school rumble is by far the best anime this season, heck it's already in my top 5 animes of all time just from a few episodes. mixes the best parts from kare kano and azumanga daioh

Sure, it's kind of pointless but at times you're laughing your ass of (the Bow&Arrow sketch was great, as was the "Girl Talk" one)

The creator is *seriously* good at animation and timing. Azumanga Daioh is better as of now but School Rumble certainly isn't bad.

I thought this was an OK comedy. There were alot of weird bits (karasuma) and the ending was disappointing to me. The sudden scene changes messed up my mind. But does have its funny moments.

I like the DBZ parody and the Initial D cameo. :D But my favorite part is when Tenma immitates Harima.

Yeah, the OVAs were meant to be lighter in comedy. Focusing on a few characters for profile purposes. As far as the second season is concerned expect to bust another gut while watching. :laugh

My favourite character in the SR series is Kyousuke. He is such a funny character... his rolling-start during the relay race was hilarious. He isn't a total pig either, as he seems to treat Karin quite well. His ability to judge women's bra sizes is hilarious too! :lmao

Tenma is a close second though. I love her impersonation of Kenji

I agree with chamcham though, almost all the characters are great in the series. They're all unique, and charming in their own way.

There wasn't really anyone that dragged the series back. Not even the ones that weren't stupid since they either set up jokes well, or just had funny jokes themselves. The sports festival was a priceless part.

Characters (I don't recall the name of everyone, so I'll probably post descriptions)

Kenji: Funny as hell. Love his total random pathos.
Karasuma: WTF?! He's absolutely hilarious in that he is *so darn random*
Tenma: I find her not that funny actually, not really my kind of humour I guess. Though her archery-seduction attempt was pure gold.
Sawachika: Her role seems to mostly to be to try to act composed when someone (usually Kenji :p) screws up. She doesen't have that many jokes herself, but she's a riot just watching.
Ichijou: Not that funny.... But she works wonderfully in tandem with Mexican-Wrestler girl. Together they are a hoot. Especially if Imadori is in the vicinity :p
Judo-dude and judo-girl are both kind of funny when they work correctly, but a lot of time especially judo-guy is just annoying and judo-girl is relegated to playing straight-(wo)man.
Yakumo, too, is usually playing the straight-woman, but her telepathy is kind of funny at times... She reminds me of Sasaki from Azumanga Daioh...

I've found that towards the end of season 1 of SC, there is very little storyline for Tenma. I think that she isn't that important to the storyline, as we know who she loves, and how difficult it is for her to just talk to the guy.

I also found Hanai a pretty irritating character. He is always destroying the Yakumo/Harima angle (which I like a lot). His only redeeming feature is his sad childhood...

Yakumo is the most interesting character to me. She is unpredictable... and I like how she can read people's inner thoughts. I guess it must be really refreshing for her not to be able read Harima's mind.

Strangely enough, I don't like Eri at all. I guess I can't feel to much empathy for a rich girl. She and Harima have a pretty messed-up relationship though. It always seems to involve Harima being naked.

I'm also someone that doesn't think the Tenma x Harima match should be. I mean they're both dumb, but Harima has too many other matches for him. I like Tenma x Karasuma much more. Or Tenma x Random blue haired guy :amuse

@Ainsin: At the end of the first season, they took too much focus away from Tenma and placed too much on Yakumo. I know she's an important character, but she shouldn't take the spotlight away from her sister too much. She's not really good at that sort of thing, and having too many episodes focusing on Yakumo really offsets the comedy aspect of the anime bigtime. Yakumo's best shown in small doses imo.

I hope you understood that, because it was difficult for me to explain.

I dunno if Yakumo really took away anything from Tenma. I think by half-way through the series, we already knew Tenma very well. She isn't a very complex character. On the other hand, Yakumo is different kettle of fish. I'm still not sure what type of person she is... other than an animal-lover. Harima is also a complex character, but is used as way to see different aspects of Tenma's friends and sister.

Yeah... that was too complex and deep for a Friday. I might speak about this some more another day.

Oh yeah the sports festival is probably my favorite part of the series as well.
The horse part was so funny and got out of controll so fast. I also like the pairing of Harima and Yakumo, though I do think that the pairing of Harima and Eri is probably best.

I think it's Karasuma's weirdness and plainess that makes me like him more. Usually the main female in anime likes the prettyboy, but in this series, they decided to choose the weirdest guy to be the love interest. The guy was sleeping in the gym storage room in one episode, and is obsessed with curry :laugh. I love that guy as a nice change of pace. He sets the weird mood of the anime perfectly.

To me Karasuma is just the sterotypical "wierdo" who just happens to be a main character because the heroine of the series is in love with him... :oh

I don't really like the shrimp version of School Rumble. They seem to use weird low quality raws for subbing. I ended up just downloading WannabeFansubs releases.

I agree with Magdalena, Karasuma is just a gag character. We know next to nothing about him, other than his weird fetish with curry and kappas... and that he is an awesome manga writer. He is a good counter-foil for Tenma. I doubt we'll ever find out a lot about him though. He is the enigma in the series.

Does anybody else think that Karasuma will be leaving in the beginning of the second season of SR? I reckon it would turn the whole plot on it's head. I'd like to see more of the Yakumo/Eri/Haruma relationship as well.

When I came across this site that only had anime OP's . I decided to view some of them and when I came across the OP for the show, I hated it.

But after watching the series...I've come to love the OP and have rewatched it countless times today :cry

At that point, I pretty much figured it out, but I was talking about much earlier. In fact I figured out that she would fall for him when he helped her out when after she felt down and out when her father couldn't stay for dinner and Harima came and walked her home. It was obvious then...but before, when you didn't see any interaction between the two, it wasn't obvious.

Yeah, I like how they added all those animals...it was the perfect plot device to give him and Tenma's sister something to talk about...or initially talk about. And then he started to come to her regarding going over his manga. That's pretty much the best friendship in the series, thus far, IMO.

Well, I just finished watching the series yesterday, so it's fresh in my mind. The OP has been playing in my mind all night last night :rotfl

Am I seriously the only one who hates Tenma after Season 2? I mean I'm sick of her being a total bitch to Harima when the majority of the time he does nothing wrong. She treats him absolutely horribly and it's hard to see a sensitive guy like Harima putting up with it when Eri and Yakumo are pretty much better choices and actually show feelings for him. Even with Eri's huge amount of Tsundere-ness and Yakumo's moe-ness they both show soft sides for Harima and genuinely show that they do care about him...

While Tenma just acts like a Karasuma slut.

At least in my view Harima deserves better than Tenma.

I know someone's going to bring up that all female main characters treat the main male horribly but... I've never seen a main female character act as bad as Tenma does not even Sakura and I actually usually like main female characters despite them treating the main male horribly. To me though Tenma takes being the proverbial bitch to a whole new level and I'd love to see her get owned for a change instead of Harima.

If anything Eri acts more like the female main character than Tenma does.

If Harima does get with Tenma in the end I'll be disappointed considering Tenma shows absolutely no interest in Harima at all romantically and it just feels that Harima x Tenma would come out of nowhere.

Well I hate Tenma more because Harima does so much for her only for her to treat him like crap for no reason at all especially the times where she refers to Harima as being a monkey when she's just as much of a monkey when it comes to Kurasama.

The difference being Harima actually isn't a monkey while Tenma is. She's such a hypocrite. This is especially true when Tenma through Harima out of the Tsukamoto house when he didn't do anything. She didn't even let him explain. Heck Tenma is worse than Akane from Ranma 1/2

Well actually she should have let him explain when she accused him of trying to rape Yakumo. I won't say that the whole misunderstanding wasn't partly Harima's fault though. XD

Did you miss the part when she says that she regrets misunderstanding Harima in umm...was it episode 19? And well...after she finally understood what Harima was doing when he was at the house (being a mangaka) - he went and broke that big dish that she did a lot of work on. But did she storm in at him and point the finger for that? No, they shook hands in forgiveness. :)

I don't think School Rumble is a "girl's" anime per se. In fact, I think it's published in Shounen Jump. It has more to do with comedy rather than romance and drama which doesn't necessarily have to be associated with a particular gender.


On a side note, Harima is definitely one of my favorite characters in terms of manga/anime. Harima is definitely win.

I never said I don't love it. In fact, I found School Rumble hilarious and it was a good break from the more serious animes/mangas that I keep up with. However, I have low patience and found the circular plots to be a bit frustrating for me. So, I decided to find a good stopping point, (which I now forget lol) and then drop it until I hear about signs of a conclusion.

However, now that I get to catch up, I feel super psyched! :nuts All I have to do now is find where I stopped :oh

Am sort of happy/sad about it.
1) it means that the anime is probably coming by then.
2) sad because pairings fans are definetely gonna suffer :(

Not only does it sound like crap, ALL the Japanese pop culture references that make this show so funny will undoubtedly be lost in translation....

Oh well, at least they got the 'Kenji Harimashi' to fix over that 'Harii Makkenji' in the original - that got laughs. Wonder how they going to explain that up when they actually meet Harry. A lot better than a certain sub that thought 'Harii Makkenji' was actually Harima Kenji :rotfl - which causes much confusion for a watcher that doesn't know how to read basic Japanese. Makes me wonder if sub groups even bother checking a series' website to check the characters' names to make sure.

I'll give them claps if they can make a convincing 'translation' of all the Japanese puns. I'm waiting for that Koi pun. :D Any fish name out there that sounds like 'Love'? :laugh

well school rumble is first and foremost a comedy albeit a romantic comedy, but still a comedy. This is just how it works. I guess for pure comedy you'd have been better off reading Cromartie High School lol.

I don't really care about the romance though. I mean it's not like this is Love Hina or anything the comedy has always been center stage. I didn't mean to accuse you of not liking it though if I did.

Anyways I hope you do enjoy catching up. School rumble is an awesome series still and will be until the end despite all the resets. XD

Does anyone of you knows of a currently active site with DDL episodes of School Rumble 2nd Term subbed by Wannabe Fansubs? All sites I have with DDL of SR2 have the Your-Mom subbed version.

I checked AniDB, they got stalled at the beginning of this year on episode 16. I have up to episode 10, and the sendspace link of episode 11 of SR3 thread is dead.

If no one can find the remaining episodes by WF, at least there should be any of Nuke-Fansubs. I'm going to search for those, so plz, if anyone knows of DDL of WF eps 11-16 or Nuke eps 11-26 plz tell me.
