Okay I understand why some things can't be shown on TV and I can even get behind some words. But what bothers me more is the cherry picking of words and what they mean that changes them from being acceptable or not. This probably applies mostly to the US.

You can say: ass, jack-ass, asshat, or kiss my ass.

But you say asshole, they beep out the hole part.

You can say: Damn and Dammit and God damn you.

But if you say Goddamn or Goddamnit they beep it out.

You can say piss, but not when referring to actual piss. (this only seems to be sometimes.)

I've heard "cum" beeped out, but when someone made a pun using "come" its left.

There are probably several examples of this, what I don't get is why? How is it any worse for a kid to hear asshole when compared to ass. And what makes God damn you and Goddamn so different?

Or is this all just stupidity?

Admittedly it's mainly ultraconservative Christians doing it. I personally blame stay-at-home moms and the crusades they decide to go on because they're bored.

i decide not to watch certain movies on television because of the censorship, especially when they take out a big part of the movie.

I thought it was the "God" in Goddamnit that made it get censored. And the "hole" is too vulgar.
