The best games when I was aroun 7-9 was a game not a lot of people have even heard about, Legacy of the Wizard. Me, my dad, and brother used to always play this together, it was nice.
Another classic would be Zelda II, we played that a lot as well.
During my teen years, even up to now, Secret of Mana, Final Fantasy VI, and Chrono Trigger are all time favorites. I remember playing Secret of Mana 2 player with my brother all the time, so it holds some memories.
If you wanna go nuts, Yar's Revenge was the first classic family game for us.

Well, after Keystone Capers, it was Mega Man by far, then it was ALL RPG's once I got the Super Nintendo. Final Fantasy III (VI), Breath of Fire 1 & 2, Chrono Trigger, and Mario RPG just to name a few. And I also remember playing a whole shitload of Super Metroid.
And whoever said Yoshi's Island earlier, WORD!!! Next to Mario 64, quite possibly the greatest Mario game EVER! Because it was the FIRST Mario game that ACTUALLY required some skill. I loved that game...

Well it revolves around a family of warriors, you can play as the Son who is a knight with a sword, the Father, who is a fighter type with a axe, the Wife who is more a magician, the Daughter who is also more magician if I recall correctly, and the Dog, who is immune to monsters.
They all had special abilities too like the daughter jumps crazily high, the father is the most powerful, the son is balanced, and the wife can fly, while the dog is immune to regular monsters and terrain damage.

Since I'm having trouble sleeping, I decided to dig out the old 8-Bit Nintendo this early morning for a trip back into my youth. (I'm a 25 year old female...my youth was a while ago!) Ahhh....Metroid, Kid Icarus, Excitebike. They were so simple and yet so darn addicting! Just curious what everyone's favorite old school games were...any system!
//Merged.

My favorite oldschool game? Hmm I'll go with the nintendo and say shadow of the ninja, ninja gaiden, and the guardian's legend river city randsome and crash and the boys (those last two games are downtown nekketsu games in japan with kunio). Hmmm for some reason I can't remember my absolute favorite nintendo game at the moment......some favorite that is huh?

DOOM. The original DOOM. Now that was some sweet FPS action right there. Screw Farcry and Counterstrike. I'd sit there and stare in awe as pixelated green blood comes spewing out the head of a demon after a well aimed shot. It was just so damn good back then. Return to Castle Wolfenstein was pretty good too. Nothing beats shooting the crap out of Nazis/Demons.

Doom & Doom 2 -- greatest games ever, used to play on DWANGO WAY back in the day -- like, a decade ago almost, sheesh . . .
Warcraft 2, played on Kali
Quake, the original, and the original teamfortress (SNIPER TEAM!)
Megaman 1-8, MMX 1-4, Kid Icarus, Kung-Fu (haha, frameswapped madness!), excite-bike, Shadowrun (the Sega Genesis version), Sword of Vermillion, Afterburner, Altered Beast -- I could go on and on -- like this, EDIT: WORMS, Pizzaworm, Policequest series, Leisure Suit Larry (dude reminds me of JKingler), Space Quest, Quest for Glory, King's Quest I-V (but not after)
