His/her name is written in katakana as テイダラ but the quality of the raw makes it unclear if the first character is a te or a de. See the difference?: デイダラ. Anyway, I'm gonna say that Birdy's name is Teidara since it probably comes from the word 鼎談(teidan) which means "three-man talk." If you count all the mouths Birdy has, it's 3 so it makes perfect sense. On the other hand, I couldn't find anything that is even close to "deidara."
So... when will this club's name be changed to the 'Teidara ... yeah FC'?

Deidara I read could refer to Daidarabocchi, which is a giant man from Japanese myth. Which doesn't really seem to refer to Deidara, unless we haven't seen all of his powers. ... un?

How do I put the little deidara thing on my sig?? Sorry if that is a totally stupid question but I haven't figured it out
I`m not sure but wasn`t there a FAQ about it? Well, nevermind. Long story short, look at the URL of the small pic, copy it and go in your control panel and edit your signature. There`s a button "Insert Image" (the small yellow one with the mountain^^). Click it, paste the copied URL of the pic, go on ok and voíla! You`re finished.

@kreutzerlove: I don`t know... maybe we won`t see her fighting for quite some time since she already had a big (but rather short^^) fight against Gaara... so I guess, if she and Sasori run in trouble next time, she (sorry, I still hope Deidara is a girl... bad habit ^^) will leave him the fun and... uhm... scram? Okay, no... that`s very unlikely... but if Deidara will have to fight, it would be cool if the enemy were Kakashi... don`t ask me why it`s just my feeling it could be a great fight...^^; Maybe he knows Deidara, since he fought Rock Nins during the great ninja war... he might have not fought Deidara (since he/she seems to be pretty young) but maybe someone of her bloodline...

Woah, didn't even realize that this group existed! Sign me up! Deidara's awesome, from what little has been seen of the character thus far.
Sorry, but I'm one of those who think that he's a guy (although I certainly wouldn't mind to be proven wrong, heh) - primarily from the way that he speaks in the untranslated versions of the manga. Perhaps at some point in the near future we can get a definitive answer, especially if more of the Akatsuki emerge to confront the nearing ninja.

As for the whole yaoi thing.. I can see the appeal in the genre. However .. What I find even more amazing is that there is a convention (and a fairly large one at that) that is dedicated to yaoi .. and its patrons consist almost entirely of crossdressing women masquerading as homosexual men -- and encouraging one another to do the same. Yet there is nothing comparible that exists where a large number of men attend a convention to patron the pornographic industry and to crossdress while pretending that they are lesbians for their own and others' entertainment.

My Japanese isn't the greatest, but from reading the raw manga in that (and a few other places), I couldn't find any reference by other characters to Deidara using a pronoun that also uses a gender. Meanwhile, Deidara uses the masculine pronouns when referring to himself.
Kishimoto's pretty much a traditionalist when it comes to genders, too, so while he does have some females with strong roles, they are few and far between -- and otherwise very stereotypical. Having a woman running around using talking in a masculine manner while otherwise appearing (relatively) androgynous doesn't really fit in with everything else he's done. If anything, such a woman would be uber-butch and trying to be as masculine as possible (in actions, appearance) beyond just speech.
I'd love to be wrong, though! Deidara would make a cute girl.

Hermaphrodites are individuals who are born with physical characteristics of both genders, typically associated with the reproductive organs. "Chicks with dicks" is one of the slang terms used for them, though it is not entirely accurate or correct.

I'm not sure.. I was almost sure Deidara was a girl though.. I mean even when I seen the RAW of him/her/haku I always thought it was a girl lol. That would be funny if it turns out to be a guy.. I wonder if he gets the same thing in the manga of people being confused with his gender :laugh. But if anything.. I pray it's as you've said.. just a very masculine chic.

No, seriously... I`m thrilled about the voice, I don`t even care anymore (okay, I still do but not that much^^) if Deidara is male or female as long as they don`t screw up her voice.
But what if Deidara really turns out to be a masculine chick? How can we make sure from the voice that it really is a girl if not literarelly said so? I mean, Tayuyas voice wasn`t that girlie-ish, too... ^^;

That was a mistranslation >_> ... No one is married to anyone... and "she" is also a mistranslation... or better some kind of free translation because there's not really a word for "she" and "he" in japanese or something like that...
