❝Sawako Kuronuma, called Sadako by her classmates for her resemblance to the character from Ring, has always been feared and misunderstood because of her appearance. Theres even an anime series coming out pretty soon (in October, I think) so hopefully scan groups will start translating the manga again (because it stopped until chapter 16, which is a shame really :cry it's such a good series!)

The idea of Kazehaya getting jealous if someone went close to Sawako is PRICELESS :rotfl and I can totally see it happening for numerous of reasons:

1) It's already been established that both of them have feelings for each other.
2) There HAS to be something - or at least someone - who'll trigger the idea of Sawako being taken away from him.
3) The Sawako --> Kazehaya bits already had Sawako admiring him from afar, along with the appearance of Kurumi who was portrayed as a love rival to Sawako. So I think there definitely needs to be someone who'll be introduced as a love rival for Kazehaya too to confirm the relationship on both ends.

That's how it usually works in most shoujo mangas (at least, the ones I've read. xDD)

Okay, guys! I've juuuuust received news that both Mamiko (http://mamikogroup.wordpress.com/) and Frostii (http://frostii.com/project-list/) will be releasing subs for the Kimi ni Todoke anime series, and since the first episode aired in Japan today, I'm guessing we're going to be getting the sub for the first episode pretty soon. Hopefully that's either tomorrow or the day after! :ruri

@UmWhatever: I really hope that's the case. DDD: I checked both MAL and ANN just now, and neither of them have any data of how long the episodes are going to be for the anime :scry but I just hope it's anything BUT 12 or lower. :/

Yup. :nod The anime started airing on October 6th, meaning a new episode is released once every Tuesday. Subs usually take at least 2 - 3 days to come out after that (depending on how fast or slow the sub groups take their time to work on it). You can check out the official Kimi ni Todoke discussion thread for new episode releases, but of course I'm also going to take my time to do that for the FC too. :3



EDIT; Finally watched the full episode after finishing up a bit of work for tomorrow.

Very amazing first episode! :<3 I love how Production I.G stayed true to the original artwork and made it almost like Karuho's style. Noto Mamiko's voice really did Sawako's character justice, and same thing with Namikawa Daisuke too. His voice provided for Kazehaya made his character even way more sexier for me! :ohpek

I absolutely loved the whole watercolour and pastel effects they created for the atmosphere of the anime too; it gives it a very warm and cheerful feeling - definitely very shoujo-ish. :ruri And my gosh, I LOVED both the ED and OP (but I think so far the ED is my favorite). I'd love to be able to listen to the full version when it's out ~ ! <33

As far as where the story goes, so far I think the pacing has been similar to that of the very first chapter of the manga, and hopefully they'll stay true to that (but I'm also suspecting that there WILL be a few changes too here and there. I don't mind it since I know with anime adaptations they'll always be changes, but I just hope they don't cut out TOO much of the original. DDD: ).

And oh my goodness, one of my absolute favorite Kazehaya x Sawako moments was animated so beautifully in this episode; the scene where the two of them are alone together, sitting in the forest during the courage test. <3333 It was such a heartwarming scene, and the anime team made that scene even more gorgeous for me! :love

Of course, I really liked the voice actors for Yano and Yoshida too - they were awesome. xDDD I'm so glad ! <3333 Now I can't wait to hear how arrogant and cocky Pin is going to sound like. :rotfl

You know I never really thought about it being like a Cinderella story, but I get what you mean. It's almost like a cross between Cinderalla and Beauty and the Beast :laugh (which seems to be the case for all of my favourite shoujo manga, Skibi is very Cinderellaesque, Ouran kind of is in a rather rebellious way, HYD had a bit... wonder what that says about me? :hehee)

When you think about it, Sawako is like a Cinderella. Think of it this way: here is a very kindhearted but misunderstood girl who, despite the fact that she tries her very best to do a good deed everyday and be nice to her classmates, gets misunderstood and labeled as some kind of a freak who supposedly has ghost powers and can see dead people. She has had to deal with all of this during her entire highschool life without having any friendship or support except for Kazehaya's (in the beginning of the story, anyway), but despite that, she's always had the ability to still be optimistic and keep moving forward. So that would mean that, she's "Cinderella" in the sense that see her with an incredible amount of unfortunate "circumstances" in the beginning (this meaning all the misunderstandings and rumors her classmates and peers have formed about her being able to see ghosts), but along with trusting her own motives as well as with the help and continuous amount of support from her light and "Prince Charming" (by this I'm referring to Kazehaya), it brings Sawako a remarkable amount of fortune (referring to the way her school life started changing and improving, and Sawako slowly getting that perspective that yes, she indeed IS capable of finding friends and being part of a social group). :amuse

To be honest though Kimi ni Todoke isn't the only series that has the whole "Cinderella" archetype going on. The original Cinderella folk tale of unfairness, injustice, oppression --> triumphant, recognition, reward (meaning a person achieving fame, recognition or success after going through a long period of neglect and obscurity) has inspired pop culture SO much, that it has led to creating so many different types of elements in the media. There's just SO MANY different manga, anime, cartoons, books, movies, films, TV shows, etc. out there based on this whole "Cinderella" concept, with the Disney movie Cinderella and even the anime/maga series Hana Yori Dango (like you mentioned :lmao which is such a good example) definitely being one of those many. But I still felt like this was the perfect name for the FC, just because Kimi ni Todoke is definitely one of those many manga series out there with this concept being beautifully crafted into such a simple, but very cute, lovely and charming love story through the eyes of Sawako. :ruri

You can do that. :nod But I also think maybe you could either read/watch both of them at the same pace as the anime is airing, or read and catch up with the manga first. I'd personally go with reading the manga first, because anime adaptations tend to change the pacing, shorten the storyline, cut off/re-add and even exaggerate certain scenes, and change a whole bunch of other things all together, so if you watch the anime first you might be confused or miss out on a lot of important factors the manga put out first.

But then again, it's all up to you. :lmao

Despite the fact that she's had all these rumors and misunderstandings pop up about her around the school, she still keeps her head up high. That being said, when Kurumi asked Kazehaya why he liked Sawako, he replied that it was because of her optimism and her ability to still keep moving forward and never give up. That alone says enough about why this trait about her is so appealing for him, as well as millions of other KnT readers. And I admit, even though it might seem just a bit unrealistic, it's still totally admirable, considering how theres so much cynicalism, pessimism and negativity in the world today. But Sawako's character sort of represents a ray of hope that if you keep a positive and optimistic outlook and be really patient, good things will always come to you in life! <33

You can do that. :nod But I also think maybe you could either read/watch both of them at the same pace as the anime is airing, or read and catch up with the manga first. I'd personally go with reading the manga first, because anime adaptations tend to change the pacing, shorten the storyline, cut off/re-add and even exaggerate certain scenes, and change a whole bunch of other things all together, so if you watch the anime first you might be confused or miss out on a lot of important factors the manga put out first.

But then again, it's all up to you. :lmao

Oh btw, I'm not sure if anyone here knows but... apparently ANN is also telling me that there's a Kimi ni Todoke J-drama coming out on April, but on the other hand I'm also hearing that apparently since the information was leaked earlier, it was dropped or something like that (not ANN source though). The news and the reference link to the J-drama is actually located on the front page of this FC, but the thing is, I'm actually sort of confused if there still IS going to be a KnT J-drama or not. :confused I'm wondering if anyone knows whats happening with this or if there are any latest news on it? I checked ANN, but theres nothing, not even an update. :scry

The thing is though, I'm going to bet that the rumor is probably isn't true. :/ If the J-Drama WAS indeed cancelled, then ANN would have probably updated this page (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2009-01-01/kimi-ni-todoke-manga-reportedly-gets-drama-in-april) with that information, but I haven't read anything on ANN about the J-Drama being cancelled, so hopefully it's not true.

As for the J-drama again... personally I'm not into J-Drama's that much nor am I even familiar with any of the actors (I only saw the HYD and the Zettai Kareshi J-dramas), but if they still DO decide to go with a KnT J-drama, I just hope that whatever actor they pick for Kazehaya and even all the other characters are good and they can actually ACT. Because if theres one thing that puts me off, it's bad acting. :\


& also, did anyone else see Episode 2 yet? I just saw it when I came home after college, and...

Seriously though, Kazehaya has always been one of my favorite characters (right next to Sawako of course), but Namikawa as his seiyuu is making me drool and fall in love with his character even harder, especially during his shy and embarrassing moments. :ohpek He's so cute! <333 Especially during the scenes where he gave his towel to Sawako, ran after her outside of the classroom after grabbing the milk she gave him, and even when he appeared on his bike at the end too. *A*

But what seriously had me laughing out of my seat was the part where Sawako was saying "I always wanted to be someone like you for so long", but Kazehaya was taking it in as "I've always liked you for so long", and it was extremely priceless seeing his reaction when he realized he was getting way over his head. :rotfl And it was more of a "rejection" for HIM rather than her, rotflmao.

I loved how they perfectly illustrated the seat changing scene too though. So much has happened in the manga with Sawako's highschool life taking a better turn as she learns to make friends and fall in love, but watching her past life in the anime again, especially during the seat changing scene is making me want to hug and squish her so much. :scry It's so sad how she's trying so hard to be strong, fit in and make friends, but people keep running away from her all the time. DDD:

Hmmm, I can't exactly say it's my favorite unlike the first two episodes. The animation quality wasn't exactly great during the first half, but it did get a bit better towards the second half. Though I also felt like they could have done a much better job executing the stairs scene, because it didn't feel as magical to me as it did in the manga. :\ And maybe it's just me, but it also felt like the pacing was a little too fast in this episode, because I remember that it took a while for me to read from the scene where Pin was first introduced up until the part where everyone gathers around Sawako for help and tutoring.

But then again, that could be just me. :sweatdrop

Though the positive side for me was most definitely the note exchanging scene. XD I liked how they adapted that part. It was very sweet, and I loved how both Sawako and Kazehaya kept blushing at each other. <3333 It was so adorable. :ohpek And I have to say, I absolutely LOVED Pin's introduction and how his seiyuu sounds like; he's definitely doing a good job giving his character justice. Just as cocky and arrogant as I though he'd sound like. :rotfl

Also, there's something I wanted to address in this FC regarding Kazehaya's character. I've been hearing a lot of comments and even complaints lately about how Kazehaya is "too nice, perfect and a prince charming that it almost seems unrealistic". I feel like I probably won't be able to tackle this argument without writing another long essay, but I'll try to throw in my two cents regarding this.

As somebody else already mentioned in the KnT discussion thread, it wouldn't make any sense for Kazehaya to be the typical shoujo "coldhearted jerk" male lead archetype, because if that were the case, then Sawako wouldn't be pursuing him and it would only lead to both of their personalities clashing, and Sawako running away and crying because of him as apposed to being happy and changing. Kazehaya's kind nature and sensitivity is the reason why Sawako is progressing in this series, but if his personality was the "cold" type, it honestly wouldn't work and it technically means you'd have to change Kazehaya's character from being "coldhearted jerk" to "a coldhearted jerk who learns to become more softer while developing a soft spot towards his love interest throughout the story", a repetitive cliche in most shoujo manga. And this story isn't about changing Kazehaya's character - it's about changing Sawako's character. This manga illustrates her coming of age journey, afterall.

And while it is true that Kazehaya's character is the main root on the development of Sawako's character, saying he's just "TOO nice and perfect, that it's unrealistic" or even "a cardboard box cutout" is really pushing it, because the fact is he's obviously NOT perfect. Obviously, I do agree we need more background on his character in the manga (and I really wish Karuho would elaborate more on his character too), but he's most definitely not perfect. He has his own character flaws too; I can't exactly name every scene right off the top of my head right now, but he's shown to be really rash, stubborn, selfish and even slightly on the short-tempered side too. So being "cold" or "aggressive" doesn't necessarily mean that a male lead character is more believable; it's just a completely different personality, and the most annoying, repetitive and derivative archetype that's been executed a lot in shoujo manga. :\

From what I've heard both in and outside of these forums, it's not like his kindness is a bad thing. It's more like he's just WAY too kind. :headscrat Which I personally don't see how it's such a big deal or even an issue, because if it weren't for his kindness, than there would technically be no story. It was definitely funny and we saw a rather short-tempered side to Kazehaya we've never seen before.

I don't think reading the manga would ruin the anime for you. I'm a KnT manga reader myself before the anime even started airing, but I'm actually surprisingly very pleased with how Production I.G has been executing the manga in it's anime adaptation so far. :amuse

And Kimi ni Todoke isn't exactly an ecchii or a harem manga, so I don't think you need to worry about it being perverted, having fanservice and panty shots or anything like that (although on the other hand, I wouldn't mind some Kazehaya fanservice myself. :jk :kloff).

Honestly. If episode 3 wasn't exactly great, then here comes the epicness and awesomeness of episode 4! :ohpek I loved how they animated the rumour scenerio in the anime. It's so sad how things had to go downhill for Sawako, especially how things were going so well for it, but it's exactly how I pictured that it would be in the anime too. Though I have to say that Pin's hallicination with the tiny men thing was definitely the highlight of the episode for me. :lmao I friggin' LOLed at that so much. xDDDDD

And the beginning with Sawako commenting on Kazehaya's forehead, and both of them being so shy and blushing was so <3333333 :<3 :love They're SUCH a cute couple, seriously! *___________*

I agree with you. It was extremely painful for me to read that scene in the manga at first. It doesn't feel as bad when I watch it in the anime though, because I already knew the ending resolution is good with Sawako finally clearing up the entire misunderstanding regarding Yano and Yoshida. I do admit though I was feeling just a tiny bit sad when I watched it in the anime, but just recalling Pin's dream of the tiny men thing seriously cracked me up and put a smile on my face, so it didn't feel as bad for me. xDD

I don't see what the big deal is with Kazehaya's forehead though. o.o Considering how Sawako is really fond of Kazehaya, it doesn't surprise me how she would notice other features about him that she'd love too, like his forehead or even his physical appearance, or something. xDDDD

Yes. There are currently 38 (though I think 40 now probably) chapters that have been released in Japan so far, but only 20 of them have been translated into english. :nod I'm pretty sure we'll get the rest of the chapter scans pretty soon too though now that the anime is being aired to promote the manga a lot more.

Also, Yano and Yoshida are wonderful characters! In the beginning I couldn't get used to them -- I mean they looked almost suspicious to me, as if they were nice to Sawako because Kazehaya might told them to. But now I just love them (it has nothing to do with the fact Chizu has the same birth date and blood type as me :hehee) and can't wait to see what happens with Yoshida and Ryuu. :D

I finally got caught up with this series today, both anime and manga - yeah, it was fun :awesome.
Well, apart from chapter 22 which I just couldn't find (WHERE IS IT DAMMIT?? Somebody link me, I beg you)
I'm really pleased with how they've done it so far - it's so beautifully made! So pretty! Love the opening song too! And they haven't messed around with the story line, just brought it to life, it's still got that same gentle feel as the manga has -

I squee.

Can't wait for the next episode either what with that cliffhanger. It was just getting to the good bit :C
Decided today that I think Chizu is becoming my new girlcrush fave character for the series :ruri She's so really ever so bloody Fabulous XD
And I'm a little in love with RyuuxChizu at the moment :hehee

Yes, I've heard about this news before. Karuho Shiina (the author of the series) was pregnant and she basically took a break because she was having her baby, but now she's back and continuing her series again.
