The ROTK is a book written by chinese author Luo Gunazhong depicting the events following the colapse of the Han Dynasty in China. The book takes historical fact and mixes it with myth and 'artistic license'. Guanzhong tells the story of the feudal lords who rose up to try and unite the country and claim their own empire, preferably by killing as
many of each other as possible.

The story is primarily focused around the three main kingdoms of the time, each proclaiming themselves to be the rightful rulers of China. The Sun family's Wu kingdom in the south, the rebellious Imperial Uncle's Shu Kingdoms in the mountains and the huge expanse of the Cao family's Wei kingdom. Most of the book is dealing with how these three kingdoms kill each other/screw each other over in various ways. ITS GREAT :P

So im not sure if there is enough interest in the ROTK for people to join, but i would like to make this the ROTK discussion and Debate thread aswell.

There are currently two movies in production involving the Romance of the Three Kingdoms.

The first one is based solely around the battle of Chibi, in Which Cao Cao descended upon the forces of Wu with his vast naval army. Wu and Shu forged an alliance (Brokered by the excellent Lu Su), and through the combined genius of Zhou Yu and Zhuge Liang managed to serve a crushing defeat to the Wei forces. One that in my opinion, they never fully recovered from.

Favorite Ruse: The "Rival Tigers." Cao Cao, who was allied with Liu Bei at the time, ordered Liu Bei to attack Lu Bu in order to have them weaken eachother, thus making Cao Cao supreme in Xuzhou Province. Liu Bei saw through the trick and did not attack.
Greatest Moment: "Lu Bu! Lu Bu has come to destroy us!" Haha it's from DW4 at Hu Lao...poor helpless soldiers.

Im going to be interested to see how many people pick Zhuge Liang as their favourite strategist...i was tempted to pick him then i realised that had Guo jia not died so early (soon after Guan Du i think it was, after advising Cao CCao to not attack the Northern Barbarians?) he could easily have bneen a match for Kongming...and wouldnt of let the bastard Sima family get so close to Wei.

I love that cut scene too. 'Oh Noes!!11!!!1 It is teh LOO BOO and his l33t skillz 2 destroy uz!' :D

Hu lao gate was a pretty exciting part of the novel, Hua Xiong scaring the living beejuzes out of everyone and then Guan Yu just slapping him back down :P

its nice to have a Shu person here aswell, i have a feeling that Shu will be the most popular kingdom simply because they were represented so well by Guanzhong.

You know the problem with Shu? As smart as Liu Bei was, Zhang Fei always seemed to act on pride and thus acted rashly, and in alot of cases it cost Shu-Han precious troops. Later on, the battle of Yiling screwed Liu Bei over, and that really weakened Shu. It actually seemed like Shu had some terrible luck. Three great generals could never take Wei, even with a troop superiority. Zhuge Liang, Liu Bei, and Jiang Wei all were defeated despite their advantages. Shu just had "supernatural" forces working against them I guess...lol

I wouldnt put Liu Bei down as THAT smart. He was so concerned with his reputation that he gave away some of the greatest oppurtunities. look at what happened with liu Zhang. Pang Tong BEGGED Liu bei to take over Shu early three times and he did not, in the end dragging out something which could have been dealt with in months. he also refused to take over the land governed by liu Biao despite the fact that it was tactically sound, was nice and fertile and had a population dedicated to the Liu family.

I like what you said about three great generals though, it really does highlight a point. After original rulers died (Liu bei, Cao Cao and later on Sun Quan) Shu was the only one who did not have the officers that could take on what their predecessors had acheived. Aside from Jiang Wei, Shu had NOBODY. Thye didnt have Deng Ai or Ding Feng to back up the great plans.

Shu's problem was that they were too little too late i think.

The ROTK games arnt boring! they do look a bit shite but when you start plkaying them they get really intense. You dont fight like in DW but you control an army (headed by a general) and position them on the map and tell them what startegys to use and stuff.

Zhou Tai is unreal! the only character ive ever got 1000 KOs with, but he is the best on a horse, not Ma Chao :P Ive never used Guan Ping and Ling Tong tho, i sold my stupid playstation before 5 came out =(

Hey thanks Shika-sama :D. Oh man let me tell you about getting 1000 KOs. I've done it with Ma Chao, Xiahou Dun, Lu Bu, Jiang Wei, and an edited character I made with the great sword. (DW4). Damn does that take a while, especially with someone like Xiahou Dun who's weapon is pretty short, and his Musou is aimed at attacking one enemy, i.e. a general. Lu Bu was obviously the easiest to do it with. His special, I think Triangle, Triangle, Square, Square, Square, (or the inverse, I cant remember) is a killer.

I honestly can't remember where I did it, but I can say that all you have to do is hang by a gate, and make sure you don't kill a gate captain. The troops just keep regenerating and you can rack 'em up after a while. I don't think I would have had the patience to do it in the damn Nanman level with the fucking war elephants and poisonous swamps everywhere.

the best way i found to do it was to get red hare and just run upto the likes of King Mulu and kill them, let the gate open, then bash Meng Huo about, forgeting the rest of the battle, just get it over and done with quickly

oh and leaving your bodyguards with the commander.

Its a shame Wei couldnt do the level. Can you imagine Dian Wei, Xu Huang and Zhang Liao vs the Nanmans? Id ALMOST feel sorry for the barbarians. almost.

Yea that's a good strategy. You should get DW4 Empires, you can play as anyone, anywhere. In any event, Yeah Dian Wei would've been a better body gaurd....Look at that damn Axe. Nothing would get through him lol. Not that much could get through fatty :laugh.

I disagree, Zhou Tai is best by land, Ma Chao best by sea. His name means "horse" actually. Also his final weapon is "Stallion Fury", I can defeat any general with Ma Chao max level and shadow saddle. on a horse the entire time i got 9999 KOs. Zhou Tai though, i agree is only second to Chao on a horse but you have to give it up to Shu's strongest spearman Ma Chao. Also, who else can't stand Zhao Yun. He is not only obnoxious looking, his voice is annoying and for some reason Koei has made him their poster boy. There are way better characters than him that are much more deserving of being "the main character" Ma Chao is always overshadowed by that mediocre dork Zhao Yun. Maybe when X-Box releases DW5, they will have Wu or Wei on the cover rather than Shu.

Zhang Liao >>>> Zhou Tai. In the game and in the book.

Remeber the Battle of Hei Fei, Wei was vastly out numbered and Zhang LIao was able to repelled majority of the Wu army which contained Lu Meng, Taishi Ci, ling Tong and Gan Ning. Now, if we are talking max levels, Zhang Liao would own Ma Chao, Zhang Liao has a great masou attack, its slash-slash, horizontal slash. Ma Chao has a good masou, but even though his ending attack is powerful it is easy to dodge. You guys forget, Zhang Liao use to work for Lu Bu, even Lu Bu said that Zahg Liao was a worthy match for him.

Kuchiki, you have just become my new best friend :D Zhang liao was the single greatest officer of the ROTK era, and the head of the 5 generals of Wei. His acheivments were so many that upon his death, him and i think it was Li Yan were callerd the greatest officers of wei.

The defence of hei fei was simply brilliant. Although it was Cao Cao's plan, it was carried out with such skill and bravery that it would be unfair not to allow Zhang Liao the credit for it. Remember this is a battle that, had it not been for Zhou Tai, Sun Quan would of been killed.

Also, remember the time Guan Yu was hiding from Cao Cao's army and was eventually surrounded. Zhang Liao actually persuaded the sworn brother of the leader of a rival kingdom to defect, thats skill my friends, in a class of its own.

In short, Zhang Liao > all other generals.

The BG music in DW games really is cool, aside from maybe three. Itys like....rock chinese acoustic which is gonna be cool by anyones standards.

In DW 5, Zhang HE taught Yaun some new dance moves. Also at the end of the game, Zhang He starts teaching the soldiers how to dance :laughing, "Heyyyyyyyy Macaraina,"

but most of them wrote poetry, especially Zhou Yu (who was OBVIOUSLY shagging Sun Ce :wink)

ZHo Yu showed so much love to Sun Ce, that after Sun Ce died, Zhou Killed himself because of Sun Ce's death. But, thay never said how Zhou Yu died, theysaid illness, I say suicide. Also, Zhou Yu was unable to kill Zhuge liang thats another reason, of Zhou Yu's death.

Gan Ning was killed by Sha Moke, a barbarian....an arrow in the head i think it was? that shows how great HE is :ninja but at least he didnt forget his old comrades anmd saved Su Fei's life.

Well, Sha Moke shot him from behind in the woods. I think, everyone was so exicited but when the faced, Wu or Wei they asked how he killed Gan Ning, and he explained and his fellow officers ditched him because it was dis-honorable. Maybe, Sha Moke encouraged John Wilkes Booth, too. :mad

Okay, its like an advanced version of DW 4 with most of the bugs switched. They have weapon weights, that can become a pain but adjustable. The diffucult on Chaos mode is the hardest I ever played, the commander takes out a 6th of your life but when you win is really rewarding becasue your attacks are uber strong.

The background music is much better than DW 4 most of the songs are amazing, like I just stand there listening. They fixed up the battles to make them more detailed, more realstic and more fun to play.

The cut-scenes are something else there are very detailed graphical and it makes you actually wanna watch them instead of repeatly pushing the start button constantly.

Before I forget, DW 5 is trying to mimic the book, they have Lu Bu's capture, how Hunag Zu ambushed Sun Jian and a lot of the others. DW 5 will be coming on the Xbox early to mid September :smile-big

Well, before the battle of Guan Du, there was a cut-scene and Zhang He was doing a dance and Yuan Shao, tried it a bit and was kinda had that face, "F--k you, Zhang..I already have my man":laughing.

I was saying Xiaohou Yuan, but I jsut showed you what he did to Shao. Zhang He is like, 'Xiahou Yuan......Your posture is all of...Follow me{He starts doind a slow dance]..now Yuan do what I did except faster[Xiahou Yuan does it and endings in a weird ass position]"

Well, Sun Jian followed another route to attack the enemy from the side, but Huang Zu challenged Sun Jain to a duel but than Zu ran off and than ambushed Zu and Sun Jian was calling him a coward and all. I played, As Sun Jian so I didn't die. But, when I played with the god awful Zhou Yu he died and thats where it leads us to where they meet Gan Ning.

There wasn't a lot of reinforcements jsut 3/4's of a screen of bad guys. A lot of arrow stands, a lot.

Wei Yan, I feel bad for. He could never gain Zhang Liang's trust, Zhang Liang treated him like an animal, "like obey me". After, Zhuge Liang's death, in the Battle of Wu Zhang Plains, Zhung Liang before his death arranged teh excution of Wei Yan after his[Zhuge Liang] death.

Incidentally Wei Yan/Jiang Wei are my favourite Shu characters.

Well, in the game I likw Wei Yan, but his dub voice in DW 5 makes him sound a little freaky, like Rick James freaky.

Remeber the Battle of Hei Fei, Wei was vastly out numbered and Zhang LIao was able to repelled majority of the Wu army which contained Lu Meng, Taishi Ci, ling Tong and Gan Ning. Now, if we are talking max levels, Zhang Liao would own Ma Chao, Zhang Liao has a great masou attack, its slash-slash, horizontal slash. Ma Chao has a good masou, but even though his ending attack is powerful it is easy to dodge. You guys forget, Zhang Liao use to work for Lu Bu, even Lu Bu said that Zahg Liao was a worthy match for him.

I think your stubborn, in the book and in the game Zhang Liao is one of the fighters, he was able to fight Lu Bu, did Zhou Tai even hold up to Lu Bu, no. Ma Chao, has a pretty good horse, but I doubt the best. I am not saying Zhang Liao is better at horse.

Two big ass halberds, is equal in coolness of Zhang Liao, his horse and jump attacks are godly.

As much as I love Zhang Liao, in the games, Lu Bu is the strongest character. I'm not making this up, just check weapon stats and attack strength. Oh yea definitely, Lu Bu is a complete abberation. I can't help but think that the creators were Lu Bu fanatics. He's way stronger than he should be, and I wanna know why the hell he's nine feet tall. Yea, I was basically trying to say that he's the most powerful in the game, but wasn't in real life. My friends and I compete with eachother for times and kills etc. and we don't allow the usage of Lu Bu, because his strength and range are just not fair.

As for the whole Lu Bu thing - Yeah he is ridiculous...on DW4 Empires you just played right up until you got Lu Bu...then you won =_= it should be possible to take him out of the game. The same goes for his ROTK 8stats, his STARTING war stat is 101, that makes Dong Zhuo very potent to start off with.

Then again, on DW4, when you did the right situation to ghet Lu Bu to appear at Guan Du, he was FAR weaker.

As for the whole Lu Bu thing - Yeah he is ridiculous...on DW4 Empires you just played right up until you got Lu Bu...then you won =_= it should be possible to take him out of the game. The same goes for his ROTK 8stats, his STARTING war stat is 101, that makes Dong Zhuo very potent to start off with.

Im the battle of Si Shu Gate, in DW 5 he is literally impossible to beat, even with a mxed out Cao Cao, with Fire Orb and I still can't kill Lu Bu.

Shika-sama's DW5 verdict:

As soon as i saw the opening AMV (despite the inital disapointment of seeing it was Zhou yun, AGAIN) i thought, 'fucking hell dan, this game is gonan rock'. And it does. lots. loads even.

I love the way they have slowed everything down. Character movement and weapon swings and stuff really adds to the 'realism' of the game, as do the new bulkier, stockier character designs.

I like the way musou mode has been set up, although some annoying historical innacuracies made me raise my eyebrows but yuo expect that from the DW games dont u? :P

Bodyguards are more useful! it was extremely gratifying to see my body guard juggle Zhang Fei in the air :P

I liek the way generic generals have been given a little bit more identity with the Strategist, Warrior, Hero and Powerhouse models.

I DONT like much of the voice acting. Gan Nings new voice is terrible, far too gruff. Generic offices sound like whiney fags and Zhang Liao 9the only musou mode i have played) sounds a bit...gay aswell >.>

the cutscens are unreal, so detailed and they really help to build up suspense.

Now, too the important stuff.....Im stuck on he Fei :crying Kuchiki - got any tips? I generally drift towards the left and Lu mengs trrops (where Xu Huang appears) but then Gan Ning rapes me when i treck all the way back to cao caos starting point =/

I got DW5. Just make sure you got a Musou Rage coin thing and just do your normal attack x2 and then power attack. And just keep on him and when he Musou Rages then run away until his finishes and then go back and use the same tactic. Cheap but effective

As soon as i saw the opening AMV (despite the inital disapointment of seeing it was Zhou yun, AGAIN) i thought, 'fucking hell dan, this game is gonan rock'. And it does. lots. loads even.

The opening is indeed good.

I like the way musou mode has been set up, although some annoying historical innacuracies made me raise my eyebrows but yuo expect that from the DW games dont u? :P

They were more accurate with this game than the previous ones.

Bodyguards are more useful! it was extremely gratifying to see my body guard juggle Zhang Fei in the air :P

I DONT like much of the voice acting. Gan Nings new voice is terrible, far too gruff. Generic offices sound like whiney fags and Zhang Liao 9the only musou mode i have played) sounds a bit...gay aswell >.>

Gan Ning's is really bad, I liked his DW3 voice, Zhou Yu sounds a little gay, Zhang Liao's isn't that bad.


Now, too the important stuff.....Im stuck on he Fei :crying Kuchiki - got any tips? I generally drift towards the left and Lu mengs trrops (where Xu Huang appears) but then Gan Ning rapes me when i treck all the way back to cao caos starting point =/

What mode are you on? Just have your 3rd weapon and take out the bases, than take out Ling Tong and the other General's go take out Taishi Ci in the top-right corner so the other WEi generals can bother Gan Ning defeat Gan Ning's officicer, have at least a musou rage coin, max out your health and musou and have 2x attack and you should easily beat him.

I was really disapointed with Zhang Liao's musou mode though, it seemed really short and none of the levels, He Fei aside, provided any kind of challenge.

So far i have only done the Musou for Zhang Liao and Ling Tong.

Aside from his poofy whiny voice, Ling Tong was VERY cool. His moveset is unbelievable. he has range, power and powerful charge attacks, while at the same time having a musou that is perfect for 1v1! His ending scene was good to :D

Ling Tong was a cool character, but I though his attacks sucked. I loved the part were he attacked Gan Ning in teh air, that wwas cool.

Okay, here is the game, we picka level, side and diffuculty, than we pick a character everyone has to have a different character than you compare stats like who did it the fastest most kills, most generals defeated and such.

DW5:XL comes with new features, some have been inclded in past games but some are entirely new to the series.


Destiny Mode - a new RPG mode in which you start as an ordinary soldier, work your way up to become a legendary warrior. The story will be open ended, you can learn new skills as your levels go up. Experience a lot of events and contact with other warriors.

Legend Mode - 18 new scenarios based on the Romance of Three Kingdom stories for every warrior

Xtreme Mode - each warrior will have a number of short scenarios, the fields are automatically generated. 2 players can play the Xtreme Mode simultaneously. There are powerup items that can only be obtained in this mode.

There is like 6 different kinds of bodyguards, if you pick teh right one in the right situation the bodyguard amasses a lot of kills. To pick a bodyguard jsut select the one you want.

The bases make enemy troops that are in all bases confused, so you lure a lot of troops in and they are all confused.

Well, you don't really need a musou for all of them, just give Zhu Ran the Battle of Yi Ling and a few battles here and there. Yan Liang/Wen Chou you don't really have to give a musou mode too.

the problem with the Yuans is, they were pretty close to emporeres. They were THE family in china, had immense power over the court, lots of land (especially after conquering Gongsun Zan) and even more money. their arrogance, in a society with a heavy emphasis towards ancestral rights, can kind of be understood.

Good to have you aboard! If you've never read the book I greatly suggest it, the games are good but somewhat inaccurate. The books highlight characters that play minor roles at best, in DW.

Ok, because Twizted is a GENIUS, the structure of the FC is going to change a little bit.

Instead of having custom general titles, each member will be divided into onme of the three kingdoms (Wei, Wu, Shu. No later Han, Yuan Shu, Yuan Shao, Liu Baio or anything :P), and can, if earned, be given custom titles.

For every kingdom, one Leader will be chosen. Imperial Heir for Shu, Emporer of Wei for...well, Wei and King of Wu for Wu.

These positions get a few extra perks. the leader of each kingdom will decide how to rank his 'officers' with some set ranks:

Conscript
Private
Lieutenant
Captain
Major
Lt. General
General

note that this will be VERY VERY VERY important for something that will come later. Memebrs can get promoted by a good performance in the FC, arguing a point well, fan art, asking a particularly searching question, photographic evidence of feats onDW games. And this wil be extremely important for something that is in development for the FC.

Wolfman - Something to remember is, generally speaking, the real officers of the ROTK didnt use the weapons they have in DW. Most people in china at that time used a spear, halberd or polearm, swords were ceremonial objects (generally speaking) and other more fantastic weapons, like Dian Wei's axe, were not really used. Dian Wei himself for example, used a pair of very heavy polearms.

You could have more than one general at the top in teh future if someone were to make it that high, but I think that the original members should be able to have custom titles to top their respective kingdoms. Its a weird thing twizted, my favourite Kingdom is SHu, but i realised that most of my favourite generals are in fact, Wu. Taishi CI, Xu Sheng, Ding Feng, Huang Gai, Zhou Tai and Cheng Pu.

From the other kingdoms its really only Jiang Wei, Song Xian, Deng Ai, Wei Yan and Yan Yan =/

I can't really decide why, except that I played the games before I read ROTK, and in the games Shu is definitely portrayed as the good kingdom, with Liu Bei being portrayed as the righteous hero who did everything for the people...

Good to have you aboard! If you've never read the book I greatly suggest it, the games are good but somewhat inaccurate. The books highlight characters that play minor roles at best, in DW.

Favourite General: Zhou Yu I always liked him for some reason...
Favourite Strategist: Zhou Yu he kicked Cao Cao's fleet's ass.

Favourite Ruse: When Zhou Yu tricked Cao Cao into killing his only two generals who had Navil expiriance. I believe there names were Ts'ai Mao and Chang Yun.
Greatest Moment: When Cao Cao and his companion Chen Kung accidentaly kill Cao Cao's uncle Lu Po-she's entire house hold and family because he thought they were going to turn him in to Dong Zhuo. That shit was fuckin' hilarious.
Edit: Oh yeah I forgot he actualy killed Lu Po-she when they saw him on his way back to cover his tracks. And seriously how do you explain that one: Yeah see umm I kinda killed your whole family... *akward silence* Yeah... *akward silence* Well see ya.

Ive been watching the ROTK TV Series DVD set i bought off Ebay and its .......interesting.

The acting is crappy, the quality is low, the subtitles are mispelt and random and the battle scenes are generally baaaaaaaaaaaad.

but i cant stop watching it xD

The man who plays Cao Cao is probably the best actor in the series, he isnt as..exaggerated as the rest.

I suppose then biggest disapointment is the fact that Shu isnt Green, Wei isnt Blue and Wu isnt red. they are all a grey dullish colkour =(

I liedk Xuo Ci's. May since his voice acting was good. Xuo Ci had all of thse soldiers he defeat and was saying that he'll be waiting for the next Liu Bei to come and than flew away as a crane.

there's a rotk fc? omg I love that book. I played the first game on the nintendo and then fell in love with the book after I playd that game. I played rotk 1-8, I played dynast warriors 1-5. the first one was a fighting game and it was really good. Zhou Yu is the best character in ROTK and in the games as well, too bad he died so young. I'm a big Zhou Yu fan and a pretty moderate Zhao Yun fan. May I join?

DW5 is the best DW since 3. It still isn't as hard as 3 but at least the AI isn't dumb like 4. That game is like crack to me. Zhou Yu is still the best :laugh

I'll say this: I don't hate him, but frankly I find him a little boring as a character in the game. He just seems to get lost in the shuffle for me. I prefer people that stand out, hence Xiahou Dun as one of my favorite characters. Although I'm not a huge fan of Taishi Ci, hes another example of someone who stands out and looks like a "general" on the battlefield. It's not that Zhou Yu looks too much like the average soldiers, but rather he doesnt look extraordinarily different like I prefer....

my brother is a huge Xiahou Dun fan. He is so mighty it pisses me off:laugh . He freaking killed a man when he was 14. If that's not badass I don't know what is.
But I really liked Zhou Yu because he is such an efficient fighter. Great run attack. Moderately good crowd clearer, great juggler. His only downfall is that they messed up his C6 from 4. I hate Pang De in the game since he has nothing to offer.

I heard the character creation mode mode is gonna be brought back and improved with 3 new characters in DW5XL, but I don't trust my sources though.

So far,Yue Ying and Guan Ping are my fave characters.
Guan Ping collects the best and most powerful items and weapons and Yue Ying's sycthe can dish out a lot of damage.
Also,Pang Tong is an awesome bugger.

I whole heartedly agree about Pang De. I tried beating the game with him but he was so unbearably slow I almost ripped my hair out and jumped out of the window. Yeah Xiahou Dun is cool he ate his own eye I mean how hardcore is that. As far as the game goes Zhou Yu isn't all that stand out but his character in the book is very compeling and interesting. Plus he's a ladiesman :laugh

Yea, I agree completely. In ROTK, Zhou Yu is pretty cool, but I was talking strictly DW. His attacks are pretty solid, I can't really complain, but I just find him so boring in the game.

Man I hope thats true about 3 new characters and an improved edit mode. I really would like to see them add Deng Ai.
