If a word ends with an o, it's means that the word is masculine
If a word ends with an a, it's means that the word is feminine

Verb
We have three kind of presense verb that we have to conjugate. Those are verb that ends with -ar, -er and -ir.

-ar
Hablar (to speak)

(Yo) hablo - I speak
(tú) hablas - You speak
(Él/Ella/usted) habla - He, she, it speak
(Nosotros/nosotras) hablamos - Vi speak
(Vosotros/vosotras) hablaís - You speak (majority)
(Ellos/ellas/ustedes) hablan - They speak

If you see here, those with , they resemblance the pronoune. You don't have to write/say the pronoune because the verb ending allready telling you who you speak to. The ellos/ellas/ustedes is a bit special because if you're speaking to two or more boys, you use ellos. And if you're speaking to two girls or more, you use ellas. However, if you're speaking to a boy and a gril, you use ellos. Or if there were to many boys and one girl, you still have to use ellos (The same goes with nosotros/nosotras and vosotros/vosotras)

If you see a verb thats ends with -ar, -er or -ir, just follow the rules above. But I have to warn you, not evey verb can use the rule above. The rules I wrote is to regular verb. There are also verb that are called unregular verb. Those verb you must lean by rote.

It's the same, but it's better to use the first one, it tells you that you really have understand the verb content. You use the pronoune only when you are direct with something for example "Yo quiero beber, ahora!!" (I want to drink, now!!)

Well, my version and your teachers versions are right but my version is more normal, I guess you just begun Spanish. In college and in your Senior year, they teach you normal spanish the way they speak in the native countries fast and comprehendable. Although, i still can't understand my landscapers....:oh

Ser is more what you are kind of essentially, always, or for a long period of time. Estar is for how you are right now.
Estoy gordo and Soy gordo aren't the same; but both are correct. You can estar gordo for a while, then get thinner. On the contrary, you can't say estoy alto (well, it would mean that you are in a high position..). Hmm.. it's difficult to explain, because it isn't as simple as this. And, of course, this is only for telling how or what you are.

And about the Yo voy al lavabo - Voy al lavabo question, you only put the yo when you want to stress it. When you say what you are doing confronted to what other people are: ¿Que vais a hacer? Yo iré al cine. (Bad example, don't pay much attention) I guess your teacher may be partially wrong. (The example you put sounded really strange)

Good, we should have a competition then :laugh But then again sooner or later u might need a bit of help. Unlike english spanish has 6 different words for each verb. english only has one. 'cause at the end no matter how much u study if ur native language is other u tend to forget some stuff. it happens to me all time with my english. in fact this forum helps a little :amuse

P.D: El español es el idioma universal...así que dejen de hablar inglés, francés o japonés...esas son lenguas muertas. XD

Una recomendación: no usen tanto los pronombres en los verbos conjugados, no es necesario. Con decir: "voy a comer" basta, no es necesario decir "yo voy a comer". La forma verbal da a entender el contexto de toda la oración, así que es conveniente partir por ahi cuando se quiere aprender español.

But dang, there are so many verbs and vocabulary that I need to learn. >_< It feels impossible to me.

So I know this is probably off topic to the original post, but how about you guys teach me some more spanish? Like verb conjugations and grammar. I don't know how to say things really...if you know what I mean.

Yo tampoco tengo un teclado con la ñ asi que uso alt + # para eso y los acentos.

There's another way to do this by changing some setting in Regional and Language Options @ Control Panel but I haven't been able to do it :laugh so I share what I do know.

edit: I did it! Regional and Language Options -> Language tab -> click on Details button -> next to the Installed services list, click on Add -> on Input Language select English (US) and on Keyboard details select United States International. After doing that just use right alt + the character you want to accentuate.

I almost never accentuate words on forums and chats, cause I'm just that lazy, but the ñ is important since it's a whole other character. :nod:

You should use the word tampoco instead of también in a negative statement, signifying "neither" in place of "also." That's just the way it works.

When you're talking about yourself, the verb ends with an o, not an e. Here's a practice conjucation:

Ellas - Hablan
Uds. - Hablan

This is standard procedure when conjucating an 'AR' verb. There are two other types of verbs that are different, though. Anyway, I just wanted to contribute this, since it might be important for people to know.

...Puedo entenderlo perfectamente en la comunicacion celular... (a nadie le gusta presionar varias veces el mismo boton para obtener cierta letra...)

Yo escribo normalmente en el móvil, no me da problemas de espacio porque ahora puedes escribir mensajes grandes, tienes suficiente espacio para escribir todo lo que quieres, pero las personas tienen la manía de escribir de de esta nueva manera.
