What is it? Give me a list of them. I know what I would pick, but I'm sure someone else will have a few to put mine to shame.

I'll Be There by The Escape Club (Dollars and Sex) (My local radio station did this as a tribute song with clips from 9/11 mixed into the track. It had me crying each time it came on the air, and I ended up buying the original album a few years ago.)

Suspended In Time by Olivia Newton-John (Xanadu soundtrack)
Don't Walk Away by ELO (Xanadu soundtrack)
Hello by Evanescence (Fallen)
My Immortal by Evanescence (Fallen)
My Last Breath by Evanescence (Fallen)
You Can Still Be Free by Savage Garden (Affirmation)

Hi, my name is LE, and I'm suitably depressed. >.>

Edit: more songs! :omg
I'm Not Supposed To Love You Anymore by Bryan White (Greatest Hits)
Still Life by Bryan White (Between Now And Forever)
That's Another Song by Bryan White (Between Now And Forever)
Travelin' Soldier by the Dixie Chicks (Home)
Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again by Sarah Brightman or Emmy Rossum (Phantom of the Opera)

Country music - believe it or not - can be much more tragic and emotional than "emo" music. It's probably because the sadder tunes hit closer to home for more people than a song about committing suicide.

Who here doesn't have a close relative or friend who can't be around when you need them? Who here hasn't lost a loved one to a car wreck, military service, or even terrorist activities?

Dudes, country music is much more suited for a tear jerker. ESPECIALLY the music videos.

And yes, My Heart will Go On is one of the top saddest songs.

Woah, totally forgot Tears In Heaven.

I dunno, Aries' theme isn't really sad to me. Probably because someone spoiled the game for me, and I knew that she would kick the bucket.

In addition, I've never heard it orchestrated. Those midi files in ff7 do not help to dramatize anything.

I don't know who here would like Romantic music. I'll add a symphony, just to be different.

Piotr Tchaikovsky's Sixth Symphony - Pathetique (Proper translation is "suffering")

The final movement is a descent into despair and, ultimately, death.

Popular thoughts have the man found out as a homosexual, in a liason with a nobleman's son. Apparently there was an "honour" tribunal which found him guilty and sentenced Tchaikovsky to death by suicide. (They would have publicly tried him otherwise and killed him otherwise.) He had already tried suicide before, once by standing in the middle of a cold Russian river in winter.

He was partway finished the symphony when this happened. The end of a symphony tells of a man's sad farewell to life. He died nine days after conducting its premiere.

Im currently spinning Bjork - Vespertine And it's extremely and powerfully saddenign and emotional.

I wake up
And the day feels
Broken
I tilt my head
I'm trying to get an angle
'Cause the evening
I've always longed for
It could still happen

How do I master
The perfect day
Six glasses of water
Seven phonecalls

If you leave it alone
It might just happen
Anyway

It's not up to you
Oh it never really was
It's not up to you
Oh it never really was
It's not up to you
Well it never really was
It's not up to you

If you wake up
And the day feels
Ah broken
Just lean into the crack
(Just lean into the crack)
And it will tremble
Ever so nicely
Notice
How it sparkles
Down there

I can decide
What I give
But it's not up to me
What I get given
Unthinkable surprises
About to happen
But what they are

It's not up to you
Well it never really was
It's not up to you
Oh it never really was
It's not up to you
Oh it never really was
It's not up to you
Oh, me, share
It's not up to you
It's not up to you
Oh, it never really was
It's not up to you
Well, it never really was
It's not up to you
It's not up to you
It's not up to you
It's not up to you

There's too much
Clinging
To peak
There's too much
Pressure

and Pedalling through
The dark currents
I find
An accurate copy
A blueprint
Of the pleasure
In me

Swirling black lilies totally ripe
A secret code carved
Swirling black lilies totally ripe
A secret code carved

He offers
A handshake
Crooked
Five fingers
They form a pattern
Yet to be matched

On the surface simplicity
But the darkest pit in me
It's pagan poetry
Pagan poetry

Morsecoding signals (signals)
They pulsate (wake me up) and wake me up
(pulsate) from my hibernating

On the surface simplicity
Swirling black lilies totally ripe
But the darkest pit in me
It's pagan poetry
Swirling black lilies totally ripe
Pagan poetry

Swirling black lilies totally ripe
....

I love him, I love him
I love him, I love him
I love him, I love him
I love him, I love him
She loves him, she loves him

This time
She loves him, she loves him
I'm gonna keep it to myself
She loves him, she loves him
She loves him, she loves him
This time
I'm gonna keep me all to myself
She loves him, she loves him
And he makes me want to hand myself over

She loves him, she loves him
And he makes me want to hand myself over are maginficent

Carrying Cathy by Ben Folds is the saddest song I have ever heard:

Her window was hung like a painting
She worried it might come to life
She stared for hours
So obsessed was I and self-absorbed that I
Didn't see that she was
Crying

There was always someone carrying
There was always someone carrying
Always someone's carrying Cathy

There were times when I'd find myself saying that:
"Friends, you don't understand"
And she's different when it's just me and her, and I
Closed the door and I tried to hang on and she
Sank into the dark
I was over my head

There was always someone carrying
There was always someone carrying
Always someone's carrying Cathy

We gave you everything
You could have been anything
We gave you everything
You could have done anything

But to imagine a fall
With no one at all to catch you
There'd always been someone

Then one night she climbed into the picture frame
Out in the frozen air
And out of sight

Woke up sad from this dream I've been having
The last couple nights or so
With her father and brothers we're all at the funeral
Carrying a box through the rain
Then somebody says that it's always been this way

Always someone's carrying
There was always someone carrying
Always someone's carrying Cathy

I'm pretty suprised that i never said this song but i think Radiohead-Fake Plastic trees should be pretty high up there.Dave Matthews cover of Wild Horses by the rolling stones is really sad.

Childhood living is easy to do
The things you wanted I bought them for you
Graceless lady you know who I am
You know I can’t let you slide through my hands

Wild horses couldn’t drag me away
Wild, wild horses, couldn’t drag me away

I watched you suffer a dull aching pain
Now you decided to show me the same
No sweeping exits or offstage lines
Could make me feel bitter or treat you unkind

Wild horses couldn’t drag me away
Wild, wild horses, couldn’t drag me away

I know I dreamed you a sin and a lie
I have my freedom but I don’t have much time
Faith has been broken, tears must be cried
Let’s do some living after we die

Wild horses couldn’t drag me away
Wild, wild horses, we’ll ride them some day

Wild horses couldn’t drag me away
Wild, wild horses, we’ll ride them some day

"Late" is a really melancholic tune. I really, really appreciate Ben's music.

There really is no saddest song. Sad song , yes.
Why do I say that?
Well, any song will become sad if u are sad, while the saddest song can be happy if u are happy.

So, this is a sad song I recommend
Unbreak My Heart-Toni Braxton

If anyone want to listen to this song, feel free to PM me. Just give me your email and I will send it to u, free.

Eh, I'll just pick one of many, and that no one has mentioned.

Iron & Wine: The Trapeze Swinger

Please, remember me
Happily
By the rosebush laughing
With bruises on my chin
The time when
We counted every black car passing
Your house beneath the hill
And up until
Someone caught us in the kitchen
With maps, a mountain range,
A piggy bank
A vision too removed to mention
But

Please, remember me
Fondly
I heard from someone you're still pretty
And then
They went on to say
That the pearly gates
Had some eloquent graffiti
Like 'We'll meet again'
And 'Fuck the man'
And 'Tell my mother not to worry'
And angels with their gray
Handshakes
Were always done in such a hurry
And

Please, remember me
At Halloween
Making fools of all the neighbors
Our faces painted white
By midnight
We'd forgotten one another
And when the morning came
I was ashamed
Only now it seems so silly
That season left the world
And then returned
And now you're lit up by the city
So

Please, remember me
Mistakenly
In the window of the tallest tower call
Then pass us by
But much too high
To see the empty road at happy hour
Leave and resonate
Just like the gates
Around the holy kingdom
With words like 'Lost and Found' and 'Don't Look Down'
And 'Someone Save Temptation'
And

Please, remember me
As in the dream
We had as rug-burned babies
Among the fallen trees
And fast asleep
Aside the lions and the ladies
That called you what you like
And even might
Give a gift for your behavior
A fleeting chance to see
A trapeze
Swing as high as any savior
But

Please, remember me
My misery
And how it lost me all I wanted
Those dogs that love the rain
And chasing trains
The colored birds above there running
In circles round the well
And where it spells
On the wall behind St. Peter's
So bright with cinder gray
And spray paint
'Who the hell can see forever?'
And

Please, remember me
Seldomly
In the car behind the carnival
My hand between your knees
You turn from me
And said 'The trapeze act was wonderful
But never meant to last'
The clown that passed
Saw me just come up with anger
When it filled with circus dogs
The parking lot
Had an element of danger
So

Please, remember me
Finally
And all my uphill clawing
My dear
But if i make
The pearly gates
Do my best to make a drawing
Of G-d and Lucifer
A boy and girl
An angel kissin on a sinner
A monkey and a man
A marching band
All around the frightened trapeze swingers

Bright Eyes - Amy in the White Coat
I was shivering for 3 days after hearing it and reading the lyrics (http://www.sing365.com/music/lyric.nsf/Amy-In-The-White-Coat-lyrics-Bright-Eyes/34C6874BA5F7D32048256D6E002DAEFC).

I hope no one flames me for this, but...WMUWSE (Wake Me Up When September Ends), which is about BJ's dad dying as a kid, and it just gave me a who new look on him. Also, another really sad song (and I hope no one posted it before) is Fade To Black, which is a song about suicide. Ironically..I read this one metal thing on YouTube and this one guy said his sister killed herself after listening to the song. I think it was because of:

Getting lost within myself
Nothing matters no one else
I have lost the will to live
Simply nothing more to give

or something along those lines.

Anybody who says 'Here Without You' by 3 Doors Down deserves to be shot.

For me, most Joy Division songs are depressing as hell. Plus any songs by Nickelback because they butcher my ears with Chad Kroegar's awful voice accompanied by shitty post-grunge music.
