I am surprised that this hasn't been done before so I'm creating it : The Hip-Hop FC !!! If you're the kind of person that hates hip-hop...

DON'T POST YOUR STUPID "RAP IS CRAP" COMMENTS HERE.

Here's the deal ; If we can get at least 20 members in here, I'll start making a list of good albums with help from other members. Why with other members ? Because I'm kind of new to good(been listening to mainstream for 8 years) hip-hop (just started listening to Black Star, Mos Def, and Immortal Technique and I'm loving it). So just post to join :P

Check out the Music Cult, by the way -- I set up an FTP and uploaded a whole lot of dope hip-hop.

BlueCheese

I really liked late registartion I felt it was a huge improvement on his first album which was for me a resounding dissapointment, I felt that he has a good sense of musicality and alot of talent as a producer and the college droupout just didnt deliver!

sweden... I have heard that there is a good hiphop scene out there!

Im gonna tell everyone to check out commons new album Be since I love da guy and its been an age since he had a good album I want as many people as possible to check it out!

Did you hear the news ? BET banned Little Brother's video because it's "too intelligent for BET's audience". LMAO

BlueCheese
09-05-2005, 03:33 PM
Oh your kidding me? That is stupid, Little brother are awesome.

Edit: What part of that video is too intelligent?

-Bakkun-
09-06-2005, 07:20 PM
No, it's not the video, BET thinks their audience is not interested in intelligent hip-hop. MF Doom and Mos Def were banned for the same reason (the list of banned MCs is much longer though).

BlueCheese
09-06-2005, 07:25 PM
Well that is bloody stupid. How can they ban such awesome stuff.

Solemn_Thinker
09-06-2005, 08:32 PM
Well that is bloody stupid. How can they ban such awesome stuff.

Easy. The executives in control of BET think their viewers only like booty-shaking, gangter-posing, and showing off material wealth. Which is funny because few of us, regardless of race, can actually afford or even want to live a lifestyle like that. There's also the issue that no one Black owns BET...

I'm still writing the review for LR if anyone actually still cares. Overall, I feel that it improved on what TCD did good, but it's lacking something. There are occasional misses, but it's definitely one of the better albums of the year so far.

On another issue, I think 2005 has been a bad year for rap. There are no real standouts lyrically outside of Common's BE. (I'm sure there are others, but I don't know about them/they got poor promotion). The Documentary was a good debut, but it wasn't much, The Massacre was weak, Who Is Mike Jones was poor, and the list continues. The only albums I'm waiting for is The Minstrel Show and Nasdaq Dow Jones.

BlueCheese
09-06-2005, 08:36 PM
Great albums this year:
O.C. - Starchild
Jneiro Jarel - Three Pieced Puzzle
Common - Be

Minstrel Show from the sampler sounds amazing, I think it's a good year.

Im very much looking forward to Little Brothers album as well, albums of the year so far would have to be me just repeating what everybody else has said!!

I wanted to ask people about local hiphop! anyone got any local hiphop they think is good?? (non mainstream i guess you could say!)

hahahaha yeah me too I was secretly quite pissed of cos before I viewed them as an exclusive thing (well in the uk at least) and if people knew than they knew but suddenly they were everywhere!

still waiting for others to post on their favourite hiphop groups.... or anything to stimulate a conversation that isnt just between me and BlueCheese!

I see your from the uk as well bluecheese are you a fan of any Uk HipHop or grime?

BlueCheese
09-20-2005, 06:39 PM
I like UK Hip Hop but I must say I don't know that much about it. Favourite is definately Skinnyman, his album is up there with the very best Hip Hop albums.

I remember being in school and suddenly hearing "I'm sorry miss jackson" I was like wtf did you just say? But it was just so strange cos they came so suddenly and that album had been out ages.

yeah it was a good album for definate but I really dont like skinnyman at all his persona and knowing him and what i know about him makes his music seem false...... alot of my friends rap so im quite in tune with the Uk hiphop scene...

imo best rap group are the jurassic 5

very interesting choice very "alternative" they are however a very cool and talented group not quintessentally hiphop but still hiphop enough to count..

BlueCheese
09-22-2005, 07:54 AM
Ok so what UK artists would you reccomend?

Niabingi
09-23-2005, 08:54 AM
hmm good Uk artists.... Roots Manuva, Klashnekoff and Jehst is okay his lyrics are kinda abstract though...
Most of the people I think are really good are just people I know to be honest...

Anyway its payday today so im gonna get the new Little brother at last!!

BlueCheese
09-23-2005, 02:39 PM
Well I know about Roots Manuva and Klashinekoff. Have albums by both of them. Jehst I know nothing about.

Yeah definately get LB album, I think it gets better from each listen but I have to say there aren't too many amazing songs on it but it's solid throughout

Oh and another fantastic group is Cunninglynguists.

Phraject
09-24-2005, 06:15 PM
I'll join, hopefully there's some space left.
I mostly listen to Grime (mix of 2Step and UK Garage) like Wiley, Lethal Bizzle.
But ofcourse plain rap is also cool.
Like Three Six Mafia, Public Enemy, Wu-Tang (especially 36 Chambers) and stuff like that.
I'm also a big fan of The Prodigy, although it isn't rap.

Niabingi
09-24-2005, 06:34 PM
There is more than enuff room grime is cool im not huge on lethal bizzle i like wiley like roll deep dizee rascal and kano... I do think that it is an unrefined art its still finding its feet which is what makes it so interesting....

36 Chambers is a great and classic album it should be law that all must love that album anyway dont worry we will guide you safely down the path of hiphop and introduce you to many new and amazing things...(slight exageration but still) so welcome to the fc Phraject post loads and be active

BlueCheese
09-30-2005, 10:20 PM
Indeed, can't get enough of that album. It's ridiculous that it's not that well known, even amongst Hip Hop fans.

Your right can't decide a favourite song from Little Brother album, it's all very consistent. No one song absolutley stands out, I feel the same way about Cunninglynguists. Every song is good.

09-30-2005, 10:27 PM

10-01-2005, 01:55 AM
Thus far I've stuck pretty much to the underground as well. What little venturing into the mainstream I've done has left me largely unimpressed. What's going on in the undergound is much more intelligent and innovative.

plz i must join i love rap its in my blood, i'm black but race has nothin to do with music, rap gives you feelings of either sadness, happiness, anger, or even calmness, its all how the beat and lyrics are and i love that about rap, i enjoy the feeling of having a ruff day and just putting on an album to make me feel better, rap is alive and growing and anyone who says rap is for people who can't sing (i.e. my old spanish teacher) they can continue listening to watever crap they enjoy but for me VIVA LA HIP HOP/RAP

Welcome welcome to the colin, 9Tail-Hokage and Narutomasterfan! post loads let us debate and discover hiphop together!!

Bluecheese thanks alot for the cunnylyguists albums man! much appreciated seriously...

I was thinking that we need to get some direction to this fc now like i mean more of what bluecheese did putting songs on usendit for each other and what not! I was thinking it'd be cool to make a hiphop fc mixtape kinda thing so we pick a theme and every fc member picks a couple of songs to go with that theme.... if i explained that clearly i dunno

BlueCheese
10-01-2005, 05:26 PM
Yeah that sounds like a great idea. Enjoy the albums they are both great. What theme do you wanna do?

Niabingi
10-01-2005, 05:37 PM
theme is kinda hard to pick i was hoping to get some inspiration from other members.... dont want it to be some corny crap like it should be something kinda specific yet quirky.. original i guess... i just have no idea what at this moment

okay I adore, love and cherish Tupac as far as HipHop goes as an MC tupac was very very important... more than so many others... as for favourite song cmon thats way to hard im not a fan of hit em up i like the songs that really show his conflicting nature a poet and a thug if you like.... you should check out one of his tracks called "words to my firstborn" (not letter to my unborn child which was recorded after he passed away and his vocals were put on top of some michael jackson track from the bad album)

as for bone thugs they cool but im not really a huge fan just cos i never took the time to explore their music

Here is my little hip-hop/rap rant:

I remeber this thread awhile ago, but I can't find it, well, I used the search button but couldn't find it. I remeber that jkingler made it. I also thought of an idea may a s-mod please auto-ban users, who drop by and say, 'Rap sucks' and thast all they wrote tha=ey don't post why and such. Saves us one last user to argue thirty pages and don't that user doesn't learn a thing.

Flame me or hate me, I love hip-hop and rap, you can't do anything aboutit. If you wanna flame me, don't flame me here. Prove me wrong of the errors you see. If you can prove me of some of my ideas are wrong than I guess I would be wrong.

I was almost a few seconds close in cracking skulls in the 'Does Rap Suck Now? ', I know I shouldn't be like that, since music has styles for everyones tastes, but some users in that thread, bitch, bitch and bitch. They listen to one rapper, lets say, 50 Cent and they think rap sucks. Well, 50 Cent may/do suck, but you should at least listen to different styles of rap, not all wanksta rap. Try groups that are more with empahize of lyrics and not how many girls you gave STD's to.

I made this thread for users who respect Hip-Hop/Rap for what it is, and listen to it and tell there opnion and why it is good or why it is bad. If you says a group stinks, why? Post song lyrics, names, beats, etc, to back up your reasoning.

Another reason for this thread is to teach a person here and there that Hip-Hop/Rap is good, and more people should listen to it, no matter where you from, age, race or religion. You have to remember that music is the universal language, not langague for one.

Welcome to all of you and glas to finally see the FC active :D Since we've got 20 members, me and other members will start making a list of classics that will appear on the first page. If you think we forgot something, just PM me ! So here are my first suggestions for the list : AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted, Straight Outta Compton, The Low End Theory, Black On Both Sides, Black Star and Aquemini. What do y'all think ?

10-10-2005, 10:41 AM
So i was thinking in line with the whole mix-tape thing i was talking about and trying t think of a theme how about best collaborations? like tracks which guest star or feature a different artist that are of a high calibre we're not talking about that Ja rule ft J-Lo junk im talking proper stuff

I already have two in mind but i'll put my first selections up if everyone thinks its a good idea for a "project"

Ah sorry man, I need to think of some songs from your theme.

Solemn_Thinker
10-25-2005, 04:57 PM
For the theme of collaborations, might I suggest...

Kanye West and Jay-Z: "Diamonds From Sierra Leone Remix"
Notorious BIG and Jay-Z: I can't remember the song, but I know the hook goes something like... "Jay-Z and Biggie Smalls, N****** s*** ya draws...where you from (BROOKLYN!!) going out to all..." It continues on shouting out various neighborhoods in Brooklyn. It was BIG and Jay at their greatest.
Method Man and Redman: "How High" and there's another one, it was more like a freestyle though than an actual song. I don't remember much from it unfortunately.
Tupac and Nas: Thugz Mansion Remix (Both Versions)
Eminem and Jay-Z: Renegades
THat song with Tupac and Scarface, I forget the name.

Did anyone see the new videos from Common's album "Be"? There's two: "Be" and "Testify". Unfortunately both songs are pretty short, especially Be, but I like both of them. The way the videos are set up do a lot for both songs. I like the "Be" video more than the "Testify" video, but "Testify" is really well done.

Eminem and Jay-Z: Renegades

the original is actually a collab between Royce da 5"9 and Eminem the beat and eminems verse are exactly the same I prefer hearing royce flow on this though even though Jay-Z is a better rapper i dont think he got or suited the essence of the song... if anyone wants to hear the original I can put it up on you send it! just let me know

Quasimoto - The Further Adventures Of Lord Quas

One of the weirdest and funniest albums ever. Dope beats. Just get used to his voice and you're set.

Deltron 3030

Very sci-fi sounding, great album. Flawless rhymes by Del. Hip-hop at it's best.

Hieroglyphics - 3rd Eye Vision

The best of Hieroglyphics. What more can I say ? A Classic !

OutKast - ATLiens

LOL..50 is funny looking. what do you like about his music? his flow, lyrics or just because he's a hussler??

rimpelcut
02-17-2006, 06:43 PM
I have the album "The Massacre". I like the tunes and I like his voice, atleast on the albums. Also I listened to his music when I was high.smile-big
The image that 50' portrays and the things he says brings back memories.
When I first heard it I found it lacking things in singing and flow and such but then I got high and started eating the soup I once hated.
I see 50 as a certain karakter that I enjoy thinking about. Sometimes he shares some wisdom. Why don't you like him?

Niabingi
03-10-2006, 10:38 AM
I really cant stand 50 cent because his musicality is just bad, his lyrics are basic and his flow isnt all that. He made his career of the back of his so-called gangsterness unyet he doesnt portray anything that seems real to street life. Oh and he also perpetuates nearly every negative myth or stereotype there is about Black males.

Kush P
03-10-2006, 03:54 PM
Yep all that and he's still looks funny...50s flows ok on hooks but weak on these probably ghostwritten verses LOL!! but still he made some money, just not enough to be legendary...I rather listen to Biggie still :P..here's somebody who's fat, poor, ugly but has the greatest flow and rhyme skills in hip hop history if you aks me..

Rap and Hip-Hop are two separate genre's, they sound completely different. Rap is stuff like Dem Franchize Boyz or Yung Dro. WHhle Hip-Hop is stuff like Naz or Lupe Fiasco.

BlueCheese
08-01-2006, 06:38 PM
Hip hop is a cultural movement, of which music is a part. The music is itself composed of two parts, rapping, the delivery of swift, highly rhythmic and lyrical vocals, and DJing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DJing), to compose either through sampling (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sampling_%28music%29), turntablism (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turntablism), instrumentation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Instrumentation_%28music%29) or beatboxing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beatboxing). Another important factor of hip hop music is the fashion that originated along with the music.

I agree with you however that decent hip hop is quite different from what comes out from artist such as those you mentioned.

I would like to join. Hip hop is the greatest living culture on the planet. I make beats and am part of the growing hip hop scene here in Beirut.

Since this is an anime forum, I think y'all might be interested in this Japanese hip hop crew I discovered when I took a trip to Osaka last year: BUDDHA BRAND. They sound kinda like De La and the Beastie Boys combined with a whole lot of Japanese rare groove funkiness.
