Has anyone tried it? Is it any good? I'm hesitant because they say it's a security risk (coming from the guy who disabled his software firewalls and opened about 50 ports in his gateway :P)

Its a security risk mostly on public computers or machines which are shared in some way. I haven't heard about anything else of interest.

Can you explain what exactly does it do?

I heard it requires a bit of memory, I think close to a 100? it could be an issue if you have low memory (say 256 mb). That's all I know, I heard it's a lot faster than the default Windows file search.
