View Full Version : Anyone ever played a game that wrecked your sleep?

The culprit right now is Advance Wars Dual Strike. It seemed like an innocent enough game, until I went to bed the first night I played it (2 nights ago). Holy crap, the music won't leave my head and every time I close my eyes all I see is little soldiers and tanks positioning themselves around a battlefield. All I can think of when I'm in bed is different strategies and formations, and it's even invaded my dreams. I seriously think I'm going insane.

Both Tetris Attack and the various incarnations of Guitar Hero/Rock Band. Fucking Guitar Hero. You play it for a few hours at a party or something, and then you close your eyes to sleep, all you see are colored circles flying by.

Tetris. Everytime I would close my eyes, falling blocks is all I would see.

My first impression of this game, was crap. Squaresoft + Disney = Disaster.
BUT, this game got me addicted like hell. Leading to moment where i couldn't go to sleep, until i finish the game (take in mind, that this was also a school week)

There's also FFXI : Online.
My sister was unhealthily obsessed with Tetris.

Yes, when I was playing Dwarf Fortress I got so wrapped up in it for two weeks that I almost didn't eat or sleep during that time. Before it was done my dwarves had not only endless hordes of goblins and orcs, but also a dragon to boot; well, more like the endless array of death traps I had built killed them. You don't really need a massive army where there's an array of traps outside of your front door over 20 deep in radius, plus your front door leads to a long winding path way filled with self reloading weapon traps. Then one day, after two weeks of it, I realized I didn't care anymore and moved on with my life again.
Fortunately this was all during a summer break while I was still going to college, and not after I had actually taken up a job in the work force. I will never again touch that game for fear of repeating the obsessive feat a second time.

He didn't say what game got you playing all night, because for me, that would be too many.
He asks what game hanted your sleep?
To me, WoW.
I was thinking on how to improve my DPS, and than in my sleep I kept muttering somehting about my rotations, my roommate thought I was insane.

pokemon haunted my sleep however it didnt end there i played it aot when i was younger then after i would play it for a long time after i turned it off i would still hear the sounds of the game in my head it sucked...the weirdest thing is when i got disgaea for the psp after i turned that off i heard pokemon sounds as well so i guess the disgaea sounds were similiar to pokemons so it triggered something to do that

Mass Effect: I would play it ( and still play it) for hours and hours and hours and hours until I did as many side missions as possible. I still haven't completed all of them and I've beaten the game four times. its really fun.
Star Wars battlefront 2 back on the original Xbox. I played it from 5:00 PM to 6:45 AM in the morning. and I still wanted to keep on playing. Damn it was fun flying through space and blowing up a giant starship from the inside.
Halo 2 on the original Xbox: Back before the actual zombie gametype in Halo 3, me and some friends decided to play a game called zombies. 1 person was the zombie, and everyone else were the humans. you could kill the zombie using only a pistol I think and everyone that was killed by a zombie had to switch over to the zombie side ( all zombies also had swords). eventually the aomzibes would overrun the humans and win. eventually this spread out to my friends' friends, and their friends, and now there is a game type in Halo 3 called Infection I believe.
Left 4 Dead: In fact, I am probably going to play Left 4 Dead in a few minutes on my Xbox 360. I haven't played it in a while, but playing as the infected is so much fun. Survivor mode is fun as hell, having to fight tank after tank with smokers and hunters all around is fun. I play for about 5 hours at a time although the most was about 12 hours ( not straight however).

games normally haunt me when i start them and play too much in 1 session and go straight to bed. there's been too many to list here^^. first one that haunted me was prolly diablo 1. i learned to control it tho (playing too long that is) or maybe i just grew out of it. i'm happy i didn't dream of necromorphs when i played through dead space^^

Monster hunter. When i was really into it i think of new ways to take down dragons and new armored i needed and shit when i was about to go to sleep.
Halo 2 - Thought about it like 85% of the time *Other 15% easy to guess*, and yeah just haunted me for like a month. Because of all the competition with my friend and me in doubles.

Pretty much any game I played excessively. World of Warcraft is one of the tops. I think about how my auctions are doing, I see visions of running away from void zones and capping nods in AB. Games that I watch people play a lot also have an affect on me though. When my bf played Eternal Darkness all I could think about was turning into a ghoul and puzzles.

It happened with Metal Gear Solid 3 for me. It's seriously freaky and reality bends slightly.

I had the same problem with the first two games... I felt I was mocked by the game if I lost a mission or got a low grade... I too would think of new startegies to beat the games, but sadly I could never do it :(

Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World.
I was so desperate to finish it before school started up I played it straight for 48 hours without sleeping. By the time I got to the final boss fight my contacts were fuzzing over and I could barely see. I finally beat it though, and then I took a nap. The same thing happened with the original Tales of Symphonia too, and for a month afterward I kept seeing save points out of the corner of my eye.

lol yeah, I've recently discovered that turning the music off dramatically reduced the effect it has on my sleep. Kinda sucks to play a game without music, but it's worth it for now. :zaru

I actually had a dream I was a Boomer in Left 4 dead and my friend was Louis but with a red afro. A witch ( some evil girl in school) was attempting to kill him so I went to save him and I turned into the Tank and killed the Witch. BUT, I also knocked my friend off the building and he died :(. For some reasons, a lot of my friends have dreams about this specific friend ( with red hair) where he dies or is killed by them.

Most recently it's been Gears of War 2. One time I did a seven hour session with a bunch of XBL friends. And it started at 10pm. It was a long and awesome. We only lost once in that whole time.
