I just wanted to create a thread to discuss all the different paths a person could take in the Negimaverse
Overall, there's a dichotomy between the magical and the scientific: Chachamaru, time travelers, etc.
Within the "magical" there's magic and ki, separated by those who use inner power and those who draw it externally. Kanka combines the two.
Within magic, there's eastern and western mages, eastern ones use summons, while western ones use partners.
Within mages, there's also a split between magic swordsman and wizard depending on whether you like to stay back and use heavy artillery or get in the fray and use no-chant spells.
Within magic, there's also light and dark magic, light seems to also be associated with lightning and wind, while dark is more associated with ice.
Are there any more?
I've noticed those who can bridge two dichotomies seems gain a lot of strength from it. Kanka combines Ki and Magic. Magia Erebea may be dark magic, but it absorbs both kinds. Fate seems to be both western and eastern style.
However, each also seems to be associated with a certain level of teamwork. For instance, Ki users are almost exclusively individuals, while mages have partners. Also, Eastern mages also operate individually while western ones need partners. Magic Swordsmen are also more adept at fighting alone while a wizard needs teammates. And finally, dark magic is for lone wolves while light magic is for co-op play.
So a western wizard using light magic is the ultimate partner type. Nagi seems to fit this although more of a magic swordsman.
Interestingly, both being suited for a wizard and dark magic, Negi is opposite from his father.
On the other hand, his father seems to stray to the side that doesn't give the great powerups. Since he uses light magic, he doesn't get Magia Erebea. Since he doesn't use ki, he doesn't get Kanka.
