This was one of those series I missed the chance to see over here in the U.K...it was shown like once here...and I was always told by people to watch it, that it was so cool, I wouldn;t regret it...so last month I finally saw it...and I dind't regreat it, it instantly jumped to the top 3 of my favourite anime.
I am also a huge fan of the music from this series...I especially love 'The Real Folk Blues' and the version of it you hear near the end of the last episode as Spike is running round looking for Vicious.
Sucha strong series, also has a really cool movie, I would reccomend this to anyone

Does anyone ever feel like smoking after watching a lot of this series? I know I do. Watching Spike smoke makes me feel like smoking. I don't know why, but it does. Anyone else have this same thing going on?

I don't know, I have an extra ep. it fits in somewhere near the end but before ed and ein leave the bebop. It's sort of a recap episode. doesn't really count, it's called ep XX (as I have it) not really worth the download unless you are a real hardcore fan. No new scenes, but they timed everything really well with the music. Hope that helps

I liked Cowboy Bebop, though I felt that the whole story was compressed into 26 episodes, and of course, there were questions left unanswered. Though it could get better more episodes were dedicated to the plot rather than ordinary bounty hunting missions.
Oh yeah, the final battle between Spike and Vicious was awesome!
Vicious inactive
09-30-2004, 12:53 AM
Bebop is the anime that all other animes are judged by. Spike is the hero, who without any powers what so ever, can topple any other hero. Vicious is the bad guy that makes even the most black hearted people shudder. And Faye is the slut that all other people base their boob size after
All in All, Bebop with the combination of the beautiful music and the great drawings (and even dubbings) is the best anime of all time without a doubt.
PS. Gotta love those huge ass nades :D
BEST EPS:
session 5- ballad of the fallen angels
session 26 #2- the real folke blues
BEST EPS:
session 5- ballad of the fallen angels

lol those are my favourites too.
I thought 26 eps and a movie was a good number. There wasnt that much episodes that focused on the main plot and any longer would make it feel too repetitive.

I love those episodes also but I would add Hard Luck Woman to that list also....why oh why did ed have to leave, she was the best. The charcters are awesome, the music is beautiful, and the plot is well thought out....what's not to like about this anime? Oh man, also the episode Mushroom Samba was hilarious! "Alright hit and run driver this is a bust. Stinky gas!" *Sigh* good times....The movie was also very good, so are the mangas! ~* Are you living in the real world*~

Great series, I have the DVD set.
The movie was good, but I thought it was a bit too long and drawn out at sometimes, maybe they could've ended it 10 minutes earlier. But still, good movie. CB was my gateway into anime for the most part. Heh, and to think I got the DVD set from a friend for $20 (U.S.) :D

Cowboy Bebop was an amazingly original series, the animation was beautiful, all the characters were interesting, dynamic, and original, and it has probably the greatest sountracks ever. Watanabe really outdid himself with Bebop, it would have been nice to have seen it run longer but i think he likes things short and sweet, prolly didnt want to draw anything out dbz style.

What a fantastic series for introducing someone to anime! My best friend watched it as her first series, and really became hooked by all the music and the beautiful animation.
While the series only has around 5 core episodes, the other 21 episodes are filler-- and usually are used as devices to introduce/say good-bye to characters, or to make some sort of social commentary about society at the time.
However, the average viewer doesn't realize these sort of things on a first watching ;)
Spike, Jet, Faye, Ed and even Ein are just a few characters that display many real human-type of personalities. Couldn't have ended any better, and glad that it did the way it <3

Everything in this anime is totally classic. The music is awesome and the animation is pretty cool also! All the characters were perfectly individual and original. Everyone must see it. Otherwise they're gonna miss one of the greatest animes ever!

i still hate that spike died but it was for the right reason :(
best songs are probably : green bird, rain, and tank
I see that everyone agrees that Ciwboy bebop is one of the greatest animes ever created. :) That makes me so happy!! I love you all!!!!

it's a tough decision but if i had to make a list it would probably go something like this...
1.cowboy bebop(oo yeah)
2.naruto(by the way is the diolauge ever coming out in english?)
3.hellsing
4.samurai x
5. street fighter alpha (kiked ass)
6..hack ledgend of the twilight(manga was better, and i hate shugo's voice)
7.trigun
8.inuyasha
9.saikano
10.FLCL
not the best list i could make but it would be better if i were'nt so tired
i'll go and get some thinkin food and some rest and i'll be back later :D
i like alot of fighting in my anime :D
FLCL!!!lol that show was insane. But wow we like the same animes though :D, though i liked the hellsing manga more than the anime, yet alucard kicks some serious behind dont you think?

takin it slowly cause i heard it was the last :(
well, i read the manga first thats why i dont think hellsing lived up to its name
cause in the manga it's so detailed and in the anime they dont have the same parts as in the manga(the anime is sometimes confusing is what im trying to say)

what happened, like a year ago it was everywhere
if anyone has that i really need it
i really only need the falling scene during the green bird sequence all the way up until julia's hummin to spike on the bed

Bebop is my favorite anime second only to Naruto. I own the movie and all 26 eps, even though the box set is bootlegged.
If anyone does, please share some of your favorite episodes or characters.
My favorite episode is #5, Ballad of Fallen Angels, which is when you first see Spike and Vicious duke it out.

Well, I like Naruto better than Bebop, but that still doesn't mean I don't like it.
I haven't seen much of Cowboy Bebop, but I have seen the movie. That was pretty kewl. I don't which is my favorite episode, but I'll let you know which might just be my LEAST favorite. The one with that guy and his 'pregnat' wife, but he was just using her to carry his illegal drugs, and in the end she shoots him. Wat was that drug called, red eye or something like that.
Yeah, I know, I'm not very imformative. ^^'

Yeah, Cowboy Bebop is one of my favorite animes ever. I don't own an episode and that's what makes me sad. I saw the movie when it was released in select theatres though and that was pretty cool. This was awhile back though.
Every episode was great, I especially loved the episodes that involved Spike's past even though there were only a few of those.

Glad to see Bebop has some fans here. I should be ashamed of having a bootleg, but money is a factor for me.
I agree though, Spike's past made the series really come together for those stand out episodes.
Periott La Fu was awesome, one of the best episodes too. I love Spike coming from playing pool to a shoot out in a dark alley way.
The movie was way cool, because it was better than most real life movies now-a-days.
Oh yeah, forgot to mention. Cowboy bebop has the BEST SOUNDTRACK EVER!

For me Cowboy Bebop is overrated. But that doesn't mean that it's not good. Actually, it is.
The animation is fluid, quite unique as well, nice action sequences, and the MUSIC! How can I forget the music?
However, I just find the pleasure of watching this series only once. I'm not a sucker for deep, dark and very serious plots. But that's just me.
Nevertheless, it's still a good series.
And yes, I think almost every person who've seen the series loved Session #5 (Ballad of Fallen Angels), though that fight sequence was better than the one at the end.
Anyway, that's how I think of Cowboy Bebop.

Holy expletive, I love Cowboy Bebop to little itty bitty pieces. I pretty much agree with everyone and with what dspr8 said about the fluidity of the animation and the music. God, I think I'll never get tired of hearing that music. I can't pick a favorite scene or episode because I loved all 26 of them.
Er, yes, the mindless gushing ends here.
have loved CB since ever *-*
spes Ed :p she's just too cute ~^^~
and I own the intire series (offical dvds of course) and have like a monthly viewing with mah anime friendlies ~^^~
Cowboy Bebop is great. From beginning to end. I can't believe I once didn't like this series... but that was when I heard great things about it and checked it out and just happened to only see the last episode of that man-woman thing...

Now this is not meant to be a flamepost to any cb fans out there, but i just don't understand what's so special anout it...
I saw all 26 episodes, and i must say it came across as rather boring
Personally i don't see what is so great about a series, with around 5 episodes of plot, and then all the rest being filler
Now you can ofcurse say, that plot wasn't the purpose of cb, and those "filler" was the importent part of it, but to me most of the episodes were rather boring and uninspired
Well to sum it up, i can understand why someone would like it, even if i don't.
I just don't understand how some people can love it that much, considering how medicore it seemed
So Cowboy Bebop fans please enlighten me...
BlueCheese
06-01-2005, 11:34 AM
Even though you could quite easily watch any episode on its own their was still a bit of charcter development throughout the series.
I can appreciate what your saying though and I can understand why you found it boring. I guess if you don't like one episode then your not gonna like the entire series because they are all fairly similar.

personally my favorite anime cause the hints and slow character development throughout the series and the awesome (imho) culmination at the end. what i thought was awesoem about it is its really more like our lives in the way that, they go about their business and not every episode is devoted to furthering the plot. its more realistic in that sense. plus, the music made the entire series so emotional to me, and the characters seemed realistic and at the same time so badass. it just has a great feel to it, but i guess not everyone can like everything
1) Great characters and character development.
2) Great plot
3) Smooth and brilliant animation.
4) Gluid action and style
5) Smart and funny Dialouge
6) AMAZING OST (Yoko Kanno, I <3 you)
7) Gutwrenching end
All these reasons elevate Cowboy Bebop to a legendary status.

2) Great plot
See now, this is what i don't really understand, what was so good about the plot?
I agree that the ending was good though
Everyone mentions character development, and sure it was pretty good, but a lot of anime has just as good character development, and a good plot, that drives the show
Unlike Bebop which just felt like: "lets go on some random hunt for a criminal, so we can get a bounty"
So i still fail to see it's greatness, but i guess i should just let my case rest, since it's all about oppinion...

ya but i think each episode was a prize in and of its own. like the chessmaster episode (i forget the song its named after) was so cool. and the episodes that deal with spike and vicious, i can watch them over and over and not get bored
Unlike Bebop which just felt like: "lets go on some random hunt for a criminal, so we can get a bounty"
Exactly my point. The beauty of CB that is was random, unexpected and there was nothing like it before. and every episode was amazing by itself. It has this certian gripping factor to it. It was human (for lack of more specific terms), there as a aspect in it that just made it oh so real. and loved it for that :amuse

The overall plot was great, and each of the episodes had a plot that wasn't dependant too much on the overall plot. And each of these smaller plots were great. And each episode hints at and gives a little bit more of the whole plot. Plot-wise, the anime is not lacking, but rather allows the watcher to glean a little of it little by little, but ensures that if you miss an episode you won't miss too much.

Cowboy Bebop was my gateway anime. It was one of my first and is still one of my all time favorite animes.
I have always considered copyboy bebop the most over rated anime of all time. It’s ok but not near as amazing as the fans make it out to be. I hope I don’t get flamed for saying that :P
Nah you wont, and a word of warning for CB fanboys, flame and thou shall be banned =].
Anyhow, I understand how you feel, EVERYONE yells out that Cowboy Bebop is the best anime of all time, even though some donthave a clue what it's about :P

Yeah, actually i dislike the bebop fanboys more then the show itself...
I often see the statement: If you don't like cowboy bebop, then you don't like anime
Pisses me off til no end. just didn't say it before, since it's not actually the fault of the show itself, and would be rather unfair, to put as a con...
I understand how you feel mate, I really do. Same thing happens in music. Fanboys (for the most part) suck.

It really boils down to what kind of plot it is that you want in an anime. What made Bebop really good as said before was the randomness. Each episode is its own story, really what elaborate plot can you put in a 26 episode series. Another good attribute as also said before is its character development, you get to know each character really well. The ending made me feel like I lost a friend or something because of this. And of course lets not forget about the music :D
...my two cents :)

I guess it could be perceived as boring if you Don't like Jazz, or most of the stylistic points about CB. The reason its heralded as being so great are a couple reasons. The animation is smooth and fluid and rarely recycled. The animation also bring the style to life. Lets take everyones favorite character spike. Spike is a sarcastic asshole, which is why people love him. You can really relate him to a real person. Moving on Jet is your typical "Father" type. Wants everything to go smoothly even if it rarely ever does. Faye is just out for herself, period. You can relate all the characters to real life so well.
Granted there isn't *Much* plot developement through the series, but there is enough to keep you interested. The main culmination of Cowboy Bebop is what really hooks people in my Opinion. I'm going to go ahead and spoil it, so if you haven't seen it kids(Your waaaay late in the first place), I'm sorry.
The reason it hooks us so much is becuase spike becomes one of the most loveable characters in the series, and he also seems the most human. With his attitude towards everyone, and hes laid back style he becomes one of the cooler characters that have been introduced in an anime. So when the final battle with vicious comes around and he dies it affects everyone...its like "Holy SH**, did they just do that?
I actually liked the Cowboy Bebop ending more than the samurai champloo ending(since I felt CB had MUUUUCH more dramatic effect, especially with "Real Folk Blues" playing through most of end of the final episodes). Overall Cowboy Bebop still ranks in at a 9.5/10 in my book, champloo at a 9/10.

lol, i know lots of ppl loved it for the plot and stuff. But i found it a bit slow with the feeling of 'omg i get it already ok?' e.g. would be like, so much time spent talking about Julia, then she came and died quite quickly, a bit of an anti-climax
i actually didnt like the ending, slightly unresolved. oh and ED LEFT!! She was like the best character hehe..
Since i watched it quite recently, i found the animation a bit old for my tastes, esp compared with like Champloo =) which yes yes, i kno is inspired or wateva by CBP.
But despite that, MUSIC WAS FRIGGEN AWESOME! And i liked the randomness of most of it =)

Can anyone give me a short summary about the storyline? I missed some of the important episodes. I'd like to know why Vicious betrayed Spike in the first place and why Spike left Red Dragon. Also why did Julia and Spike not run away when they had the chance?

The thing about Bebop is if you don't like Jazz or Shinchiro Watanbee's works you aren't gonna like Bebop. Bebop is like a different style of anime, it has a few twists and turns. Bebop has comedy and drama fused into one show.
Well, I just bought Volume 1,2,3,4 of the Bebop Season and I can't find 5 and 6.

question, how close is this bebop to champloon? i'm aware that they are done by the same dude. i watched champloon and didn't think much of it, but now i've picked up bebop and like it a lot. so far it seems to carry a plot better than champloon, and actually have some degree of tangible character development. is that true of the whole? i've only seen 8 eps. apologies if this has been asked before.

Its close on episode structure like every episode reveals something about each character and they both have great soundtracks.
Cowboy Bebop, fanboys? That’s a first.
I really like Cowboy Bebop. Yes, it was an overall superb anime but it’s that how I watched it made me like it even more.
A few years back, Cowboy Bebop was probably just premiering or on its rotation of the season on AdultSwim. I found Bebop around 7/8th grade, around a time when I wasn't really a person to stay up past 10 o' clock. On a school night around 11:30/12:00, I had stood up to finish a project than I flipped on the TV and found a trailer of old people swimming (Adult Swim's old trailer) and I was about to flip when I saw the introduction song. I fell in love with the fighting in that very episode, and enjoyed the music. It had felt I just finished a short movie. So from than on, on school nights I stood up to watch all 26 episodes of Bebop and the movie.
As I re-watch from time to time, I start picking up things that I didn't see before and I just find how better and ahead of its time it was. All the characters on the Bebop had there own personas and different pasts. They have lost loved ones, there weird hobos and attitudes, sometimes. Spike is my favorite because one episode/moment he is acting all loony and the following moment he is serious. Spike said the right words and most of the time knew what he was in for and knows his surrounds.
All the Spike and Vicious episodes were awesome since the tension of each episode was cliffhanging. Sword against a gun, both former partners of a crime syndicate. Than they'd play Ballad of Fallen Angels after/during those episodes and gave a sentimental feel to each episode. The ending of Cowboy Bebop was a great/unexpected one. Not a lot of animes at the time of Bebop's release would pull something like that; even today it doesn't happen.
The movie was as great as the series. With Spike seeing a near perfect reflection of himself through Vincent Volaju and seeing Spike deal with him. The music was to perfection, too. It was a fascinating site to see most of the Bebop characters merged into that episode and the movie withheld many favorite quotes of mine.
The soundtrack with the series going on was amazing. The soundtrack by itself is good but not godly. Only the opening (Tank!)/Ending song (Real Folk Blues) and a few lyrical tracks save the album from just becoming an ordinary OST but one that stands out.
Sadly, Cowboy Bebop isn't being seen that much. Barely, anyone in my school watches it. Only, 3 out 30 people in my anime club watch it and they call themselves 'hardcore'. In my opinion, Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo were both animes I enjoyed watching every episode. Though, I don't really like people comparing animes of present to Cowboy Bebop since Bebop was made over 8-10 years ago. People should at least recognize Cowboy Bebop as ahead of its time, that’s what I think.

When Spikes goings for Vicious why does the upper story explode seemingly without reason?
On a random note the vanishing star was a nice ending effect :cry

I think Spike had placed some bombs on his way to the tower and denoated them to take out anyone protecting Vicious so that it would be one on one. Or it could've been Vicious' version of defense of his castle, which I doubt.
On a random note the vanishing star was a nice ending effect :cry
That was great. Running Bull (The Indian Storyteller) is awesome with his mini-speech to Jet.

i hated bebops ending. anime so good though
what!!! i loved the ending,
sure its sad but its also real,
It made it a closed story.
Because bebop was only a 26 episode series i think it had to get to the point and close off, which is what it did. Nicely.
as for the soundtracks,

The movie takes place before the ending of the anime, somewhere between episode 23 and 24.
The story of the movie shares no connection with the story of the anime. Spike talks about his past once or twice, but apart from that there's nothing linking the story of the anime and movie together.
And, just in case you didn't get it, Spike does die at the end of the anime. The star vanishing at the end of the credits made it crystal clear to those who decided to watch until the very end of the final episode. :)
THANKS!

I don't understand why some people didn't like the ending. Didn't people understand the show?
Spike never felt truly alive during his time on the Bebop. He charged into every dangerous situation, never caring if he lived or died. Spike wanted death, he wanted the "dream" to end. The trigger for Spike to "awaken" was for Julia, the woman who stood between Spike and Vicious in the past, to become involved in his life again. Spike didn't want to go on living once Julia had passed away, so he decided to explain to Jet in his own way, say goodbye and go face his destiny. He survived all the other battles because it wasn't his time, this time however it was his time.
Life doesn't usually have a happy ending, especially not when you're involved with a crime syndicate. It would've been very lame if it ended with Spike charging up to the top, killed Vicious and walking away with the woman. The perfect ending isn't always a happy one.
Bang.

I've watched 15 episodes of it already, with only about 5 of them being relevant to the main story. I mean what the fuck man, most of the episodes they freaking ever aired seem to be nothing more than fillers.
I mean, god this story shouldn't take more than ten episodes to complete, but it ended up having freaking twenty six. Is there any point for me to keep watching it?
Given the action is awesome, but the awesome action can only keep me entertained for so long. Does this anime get any better? I am really not in the mood to keep watching all thier freaking fillers.

There's a Main story? What?!
LOL You're just like me, except that I had a bit more tolerance. Cowboy Bebop is a bit of a strain really, but that's because its not like most other animes.
Its much more like western TV shows where each episode is nearly entirely episodic.
Just watch each episode as their own, forgetting the over-reigning plot, because every episode is very relevant, but more in character interaction than anything else.
Cowboy Bebop is not just a TV show, its an experience.
I really would suggest watching it to the end, you'll be glad you did. Its a genius anime, one of the reasons being because its so different from most formulaic ones. You've only got another 10 episodes to go. Enjoy them one at a time and you'll really appreciate the shows brilliance.

I think there's probably two more episodes worth watching before the last couple of episodes. Though everything really does suck after The Ballad of Fallen Angels.

. . . the best episode I've watched was when spike met up with vicious for the first time again, and after that it shows a bunch of missions. If most of the series goes on with a bunch of filler episodes, I don't think I"d like it.
But I'm going to finish it anyways, spike and viscious's relationship is way interesting though, despite most of the show being a drag.

Well, the episodes are standalone for the most part. They nearly never catch anyone alive, so it leaves you wondering how they're managing to keep the ship running, let alone staved off starvation.
Spike has two big fights before the final battle with Vicious. One is vs. a character named Cowboy Andy, and another where Spike fights...a very powerful and unorthdox oppenent.

There's some pretty interesting non-Vicious episodes coming up, mainly the ones that tell you about Jet and Faye's past. Episode 8 (guess you didn't like it?) and 20 are also up there, I always enjoy re-watching them.
The final two episodes will probably make you forgive CP for only having 5 episodes with Vicious in. I didn't like the series at first myself, even episode 5 didn't do it for me! And guess what? I now own the entire series (for £60 :/) on DVD, one of three full anime series I own on DVD.
Also, if you haven't already, you should watch the CP movie before episode 24. If you only like stuff that sticks to the main plot like glue, you'll enjoy the movie much more than the series.
