View Full Version : Conservative thinks he can withstand waterboarding. He lasts 6 seconds.

Erich "Mancow" Muller, a Chicago-based conservative radio host, recently decided to silence critics of waterboarding once and for all. He would undergo the procedure himself, and then he would be able to confidently convince others that it is not, in fact, torture.
Or so he thought. Instead, Muller came out convinced.
"It is way worse than I thought it would be, and that's no joke," Mancow said. "It is such an odd feeling to have water poured down your nose with your head back... It was instantaneous... and I don't want to say this: absolutely torture."
"I wanted to prove it wasn't torture," Mancow said. "They cut off our heads, we put water on their face... I got voted to do this but I really thought 'I'm going to laugh this off.' "

He at least gets credit for doing this, something his colleagues have not done despite claiming it is not torture. Hannity claimed he could take it, but has yet followed through on repeated attempts to get him to prove himself.
Well at least he tried and learned his lesson...and learning is half the battle.

Yeah I saw this a little while back and I have to say I at least respect him for going through with it and giving an honest opinion after that. He flat out says he doesn't want to but has no choice but to admit its torture.

Respect that he actually went through with that, even moreso for admitting it was torture.
Now if only Hannity would finally go on national television and do the same thing...I wonder how long Limbaugh would last?
Brave man for both doing this and admitting it was indeed torture.
There is nothing brave about doing something you think is a joke and giving up immediately when you realize it's not.
This guy just proved he was an idiot, I don't understand how one can think waterboarding is a joke and yet force people to talk at the same time.

He admitted that he was wrong. That takes balls IMO.
A lot of people have a hard time admitting they're wrong on issues they had a lot involvement in.

Mancow is a major douche but at least he had the balls to try it himself. Still, just because some pussy shock jock can't take it doesn't prove it's torture.
I like the video of Rick Sanchez getting tased, too. :D
Like other people have said it was sensible of him to try and experience it first hand and then talk about it from experience and maybe now other conservatives will listen to one of their own on the topic.

It was brave because he is in the business of disseminating ideas, and to admit he's wrong is a big deal.
Plus I think its good he actually knows how serious it is. I think thats the problem with a lot of the waterboarding advocates is they don't actually have any idea what its really like.

It takes balls to change a persons mind like that on open air. Though I myself do admit it is a minnor form of torture, but at 6 seconds that guy is a wimp. I have known people who have went through training which included them to go through that and they said it is just a matter of controling your breathing and it was horendous (but they all lasted longer then 6 seconds).

It proves it works when it comes to making people upset; so do dismemberment, eye gouging and other forms of torture; whether or not it works in making people cooperate and in making the USA look like a civilized country is another problem altogether.

Merely that I accidentally do that to myself a lot of the time, taking a shower.
Worse than that, though. Coughing and choking is often involved..

Also, he's right about the part with waterboarding being soft stuff compared to what other coutries pull off. But lesser torture is still torture.

In Shin Bet and Aman (IDF Military Intel.) training they have all the new interrogation agents get waterboarded for 3 minutes so they know how brutal it really is (if you can't, you fail the training). This kind of thing makes you respect the technique a bit more at least.
Also since me and my friends have nothing better to do we decided to try this out on the one who'll volunteer for anything. He lasted .5 seconds :zaru

It has nothing to do with being able to your your breath. I can hold my breath 2-3 minutes--but it doesn't matter. Waterboarding is more like being upside down underwater in a swimming pool without holding your nose. No matter what the air escapes out of your nose and is replaced by water. You can't breath and begin to drown. That's why they say it 'simulates drowning'. If you're not drowning, you're not doing it properly.
