A pet chimpanzee - who had appeared in TV commercials and shows - got loose at a home at 241 Rock Rimmon Road in Stamford Monday afternoon, according to Stamford police. And it was not his first time.
The 175-pound animal attacked its owner's friend, leaving the victim with severe facial injuries. She was taken to Stamford Hospital. Police do not expect the person to live. The friend, believed to be a 50-year-old woman, opened the car door and was promptly attacked.
The Stamford Advocate reports the primate's owner called 911 and then tried to stop the attack by stabbing the chimp with a butcher knife.
An officer shot and killed the animal when it tried to get into his police cruiser, said police.
The animal was reportedly named Travis and had issues in the past.
On October 19, 2003, Travis escaped from his owner's SUV and went running through the streets. More than a dozen police officers chased around after him at the time.
In a newspaper article at the time, police said the chimp, then 10, was toilet trained. He reportedly dressed himself, ate at the table and drank wine. He could use a computer and remote control.
He starred in Old Navy and Coca-Cola commercials and even appeared on the Maury Povich Show, according to an article in the Stamford Advocate
Why would you ever keep such a dangerous, powerful, and intelligent animal as a pet? It's like they took crazy cat lady to its most horrifying extreme.

Seems like the business world just lost a key animal player, but hey, what is done is done. Knowing the animals past, more should have been done to ensure that there would be been public safety as well as the security of a key investment...cold as that might seem. Essentially, that's what Travis was.
Am I the only one who lol'd at the title?:lmao

This reminds me of when I was kid at the Rock of Gibraltar. We were riding up the mountain in a bus and stopped because some monkeys were in the middle of the road. They told us we could get out to take pictures but to leave our food on board. Well, some teenager brought out a banana and started waving it in front of the monkey's face so the monkey jumped on top of his shoulders and knocked him down. He stole the banana and ran to the edge of the rock where he glared at the teen then turned around to eat it. I remember the teen shouting "He farted in my face!" not worried about the banana or the ass whooping at all:sag
They also ripped his balls off.

From what I've read, this chimp was very well behaved and liked. Even in the previous chase, one of the officers described it more as the monkey having some fun and mischief than something more sinister.
However, the owner claims that the chimp had Lyme disease, which is why it went off on this woman. He couldn't calm it down, even after using Xanax, and called her over to help him. The man that owns him is 78 iirc.

Some people see chimps and think, 'aw, they kind of looks like people!' and they forget that they have the power, and often the intent, to go 'apeshit' on people. I mean, they are wild animals. You can stab them with a butcher knife, but the damage is already done. My sympathies to the woman who's face was attacked...

Nash was transported to Stamford Hospital with life-threatening and "life-changing injuries," police said. Neighbors told Eyewitness News that the chimp bit the woman's hands off.
"He bit both of her hands off," said Herold's friend, Lynn Mecca. "The cop said he was eating … it’s terrible. I don’t want to talk about it."
“I would have never thought Travis was capable of doing this. I don't think anybody was," said Michael Grant, who’s known Herold for years. “Last time I saw Travis, he was in one of the upstairs windows giving monkey cries in the neighborhood. You'd think you were in Africa."
Police said Herold was also taken to the hospital with unknown injuries. The officer whom the chimp lunged at was transported to the hospital for shock and trauma treatment, police said. The officer has since been treated and released.

I will admit, the chimp isn't at fault for taking the drugs...but you have to realize that animals aren't allowed to attack humans and just not get off with that their animals thing. They get shot...that's just how it goes.
And its pretty obvious the chimp taking the drugs caused that...

I've never seen a cat scratch itself. They use their teeth when they're itchy. They do use their claws to climb stuff, though. It's pretty sad to watch a declawed cat trying to figure out that it no longer has any grip.
There's no need to have a cat declawed. You can just clip and/or file their claws regularly.

This statement is so fail, I have no idea where to begin. It would be extremely inaccurate to generalize the whole human species using a simple man from Congo.
Therefore if you have figured out or not (I actually do not care) that I was generalizing the human race relative to our achievements as a species, I wasn't handpicking people. :facepalm.

chimps are 4X stronger than people, but the type of muscles in their arms only work for pulling and they are very weak in pushing(triceps).
plus, they have slow myostatin muscle fibers that make it impossible for fast limb movement, that is why you never see chimps punching, humans can generate more tricep force and speed and can throw faster stronger punch than any chimp could even imagine.
A kyokushin karate black belt or average boxer would decimate any chimp in a real fight.
humans are capable of incredible shit with proper training. ppl dickride animals so much that they forget this, bc the average 90% of poppulation is weakling.
I'm not trying to sound like internet toughguy, I'm staing cannon fact.
rampage jackson would crush that chimp's skull with a few good punches.
as long as the chimp didn't grab his arm.
rememeber chimps strong at pulling, but weak at pushing and lack speed reflexes.

Yeah, I heard about that. I thought all the furore was silly and they're just playing the race card, since I've seen worse for white politicians for no-one whining. The chimp was just linking it to current events (imo, anyway) they'd probably have done it if it was a tiger or something, though admittedly it's more likely with a chimp. Not for racist reasons though. A human head just looks more convincing on a chimp.
