Koh Kitamura is a fifth grader whose family runs a sporting goods store. One of the regular customers of his family's store is the Tsukishima Batting Center, and so he gets to know the four daughters of the Tsukishima family (Ichiyo, Wakaba, Aoba, and Momiji) very well. Since Koh has spent so much time practicing in their batting cages, he has become a genius hitter, but has no knowledge of any other aspect of baseball. This is in contrast to Aoba, who, despite being a year younger, is an adept pitcher and hitter. Wakaba is a classmate of Koh's, and she seems fully intent on marrying him when she grows up. All seems idyllic in their world, until tragedy strikes. The story then skips ahead to four years later, as Koh has continued the training he began four years ago, but has not played in a baseball game since. As he finally begins playing again, it remains to be seen whether or not he will live up to the expectations of those who know the true talent he has been hiding all this time.

This is easily one of my most anticipated shows of Spring. Late last year I got into the manga and fell for its characters and charming plot (in addition to going through 100+ chapters in just a few days). Can't wait for the cast to be revealed/for the anime to start.

Now, I didn't play sports in Highschool, so maybe that's what it really meant to be on a team, sleeping practically on top of one another, but it still seemed weird and uncomfortable. Wakaba dying was a punch in the face to me, and seeing that big "tough guy" (Who's name escapes me) cry made me shed a single tear, amazing how I grew atatched to a character in 20 minutes, I have high hopes for this show

Since I'm a manga reader gotta say thought that they did a good job I do think they could have waited till ep 2 to do the plot twist that happens in the end of vol 1. But can't blame them they did it in ep 1 so that they would be able to hook the viewers. My only worry is some parts of vol 1 weren't shown in ep 1 and there quite important to Koh's and Aoba's relationship. Though those scenes can be shown in flashbacks and hopefully they will.

There's a chance of this series being 52 episodes since the animation company doing this series has done several 52 ep anime series. There's a good place in the manga where they can end the first season that being:

Where Koh loses the game thus not being able to get into Koshien. Not sure if it's before or after he meets Akane and since she's shown in the OP I think that could be another place where they could end season one in a sorta cliffhanger when they meet Akane's character.

Oh and I gotta say the animation was great and the music was good as well.

Sorta disappointing that they rushed to finish volume 1 in only a single episode... But then again, judging from the preview from the next episode, it looks like they're going to use many of the scenes they "skipped" as flashbacks instead, so it may even out in the end. Plus this episode wasn't badly done, so I suppose it's all good :D. Adachi does good stuff and as long as they handle it right, I don't think this'll be an anime that disappoints us :D .

After reading your post I got interested, so I read volume 1 and damn they skipped a good deal. But like you said, I'm pretty sure they're gonna show some of it in flashbacks. Especially cause it ties in with what's gonna happen later on the series (I'm reading volume 2 now).

Hrmm interesting first episode, definitely didn't expect that. How convenient that she gave him a list of bday presents she would have wanted in the future, I imagine he will end up giving them to her at her gravesite each year or something. I'm not a big fan of the character designs but I suppose they can grow on me as long as the story and characters are entertaining. Plus I like baseball so I'll give it a few more eps to grab me.

First episode has been a great adaptation of the manga so far. Can't wait to see how they handle some of the upcoming scenes.

I felt like they rushed through the first volume too quickly. A lot of important things were left out like Aoba and Wakaba's discussion about her list, the game between the 4th and 5th graders, and several other important scenes. Hopefully they'll all be put in through flashbacks, but I feel like it would have been better to make 2 episodes out of the first volume.

It also would have made the ending even more meaningful, since viewers would have known Wakaba longer.

Either way, the episode itself was great. All the characters were really well cast, and the music at the end was completely wonderful. Even though I knew it was coming from reading the manga, I still started bawling.:cry

Can't wait to see more of this anime, since the manga is so wonderful.

I hadn't actually read the synopsis prior to watching the first episode. All I knew was that it was a baseball series, and I'm a sucker for sports anime. So, I was surprised by the tragedy that occurred; with Wakaba's list of future birthday presents, I assumed something was going to happen but not what actually did. And, I'm expecting/hoping that one of those gifts is related to a baseball accomplishment.

Also, I appreciated what a nice job they did of setting up this idyllic childhood day and how it served to contrast with what happened later on. The exchange that stuck out to me the most besides the undeniably hard hitting final scene with the rising score was when Koh's dad asked him if he had any allowance for the festival, and then gave him some money telling him not to waste it. While this could be a standard thing to tell a kid after giving them money for a special occasion ("Don't spend it all in one place!"), the words appeared to have a lot more meaning behind them considering the circumstances.

Overall, it seems like this will be a slightly above average, substantive watch. Not necessarily something I will remember for all time, but undeniably worthwhile.

It had a similar effect on me.

I was more surprised/taken aback by Wakaba's death prior to seeing Akaishi cry. But, that scene sort of made the sadness of the event sink in all at once. And, I think it helped a great deal that Koh finally cried after the sight, as well.

Their so-called "translation" was copy-pasted from the manga scanlations and therefore in cases where the manga differs from the anime (or when the scanlations are incorrect), they completely twist the meaning of the scene. For example, around 18:33, their sub states that she just got her foot stuck in a hole - which is actually from the *scanlation* of the manga - but in the anime, the narrator is actually saying that she was *dragged under by the current* - therefore completely twisting the meaning. My advice: wait for a better sub, you will lose your understanding of this great anime from this copypaste job.

The subs haven't been great, but they beat nothing.

The second episode was pretty good. They adapted several of the scenes from Volume 1 that were skipped over in the first episode (although there's still some stuff that hasn't made it into the anime), and also smoothly handled the transition to the beginning of Part 2. The voice actors are all doing great work with their characters, too.

I'm a bit disappointed that they didn't carry over the 4th wall gags and have Senda ask Koh to introduce him to the viewers, though.

Not exactly sure why someone would release a troll sub since they only release their episodes initially through torrents which takes 1-3 days for a full copy to be completed and yet get angry at someone who sets up a Direct Download link afterwards or says that there translations are ripped off the manga.

If you don't want to sub the series since people didn't bow down to your requests or insulted the legitimacy of your work (which a lot of fansub groups go through) then don't release it, plain and simple.

It's not rare for a fansubber to not want their release openly distributed (no different from how most translators do not wanting their translation used freely). I think even DB had issues with others putting their episodes on streams a while back. If you don't agree with their policies, then no need to download their subs.

Anyways, Cross Game has been off to a good start. While I certainly don't like romance I find that Adachi does a fairly good job of giving other elements focus and the character interactions are entertaining regardless. Having not read the manga, I'm hoping Cross Game has a similar balance (though I've heard it isn't as sports-focused.)

But after watching it, it was pretty serviceable, but the editor note while unnecessary since they wanted to inject their own brand of humor "missed my chance to molest her"...although that part was kinda funny :lmao

I will say that it's always weird when someone used the word "pwn" in a conversation, when you could easily use...real words such as eclipsed, overtook, broke, etc...when talking about records.

As for the actual episode, I have to admit that both Aoba and Ko's level of vision in uncanny, in the fact they were able to spot that robbery for a split second :S

CG has been on my to watch list since before the spring season started, but I've been on anime hiatus for like 4 weeks due to finals, but I'm glad I finally got to watch this one. Initially I was shocked by the twist, but being acquainted with Adachi's Touch, it's just like him to kill off a character to motivated another character. So far I'm loving what I'm seeing, Mitsuru Adachi is probably the only person in the world who can write a sports story, or more specifically a baseball story I can enjoy.

It's like Aoba goes out of way to be mean to Ko. I know she was jealous of Ko's relationship with her sister. Whether it was because she wanted her sister more to herself, whether she liked Ko on some level and doesn't know any way to express it or a mixture of both, she can be rather hard to get along with.

Ko has my respect, IMO.

Yeah, she's pretty hard to read sometimes. I still don't know if Aobo likes Ko or not. Also don't read the manga if you're watching the anime. The anime is a really good adaptation of the manga. It follows it really close (even though it's not in the same order all the time).

I think Daimon really boned himself by getting rid of Senda for this game but things still look bad for the Farm Team. I was actually hoping for the Farm Team to win but with Ko tiring out and Azuma batting the way he does, I don't see it happening. That home run Azuma hit was something else.

I guess doing their homework on the batters tendencies really did payoff

I love the strategy of getting a "ball" call on Azuma so the player on base would try to steal 2nd base. It's a great strategy because it keeps Azuma from hitting the ball and allows them to get their final out of the first inning.

I was also impressed by Ko setting the pace by hitting that homerun. While the initial strategy was a bit different you can't complain with the results.

Well, it was good to see Azuma snap Ko out of his fatigue by getting him fired up over that home run. Although I still found it kind of annoying that those 3rd years were more occupied with getting noticed and hated on their own teammate Ko rather than actually worrying about their own game.

Well, with that level of fatigue setting in I didn't think Ko would abandon control in favor of speed, then again speed is his best attribute.

It's also interesting knowing that if Ko had walked Azuma instead of taking him head on they would be ahead 3 to1 instead of being down.

Now, I have to wait another week for a new episode to come out :arg

I think that the fact that it was mentioned to Azuma that it's Ko's first real game only makes that much of a rarer feat and shows to him that Ko's one of those rare talents that come across very few times.

I will give the coach credit for paying close attention to his player tendencies. Putting tape on Senda's bat because his hits are too wide was a brilliant idea.

The sacrificial bunt by the third year was also unexpected but I guess that story and the coaches words before he went out there really hit home. Ko hitting a cycle in a game was so awesome.

While they did lose in the end, Ko was able to get Azuma to strikeout in the last inning.

Well, you could attribute it to both shows using baseball as a backdrop, and not as the main focus.

Major, on the other hand, is like the Captain Tsubasa of baseball. Not with the special techniques and stuff, but in the way Goro is very similar to Tsubasa. He loves baseball, and thinks of nothing but baseball. So it's pretty much the standard "the joys of youth" and "victory against all odds" fare.

It still is an excellent show though, so you could give it a try.

And I imagine waking up to "Go to hell, sunglasses!" is a great way to get you fired up to kick Daimon's ass.

I'm glad the game didn't take too long as with the previous one between the Main Team and the Farm Team. Daimon's frustration with how Kou was keeping the MT's hitters off the bases and from scoring couples with the Chairman heading on over and telling him that he's agreed to the game's stipulations despite the acting principal's plans made Daimon's loss all the more sweeter.

Everyone seems to want Aoba...

Kou better step his game up.

And it looks like Azuma will have to get used to practicing with Kou and the rest of Seishu's baseball team if he isn't going to transfer like the rest of the now former MT did.

Ah, I was wondering why the farm team lost 6 practice matches and why they went off to a slow start in this game. Pretty crafty of the farm team if you ask me :hmm
And I knew Azuma pretty much knew what came of their practice matches and he did a good job breaking down who there opponents were for practice as well as analyzing Kou's strategy for the first couple of innings.

It also seems Kou had quite a bit of mental training since he usually pitches well under pressure.

I was also glad to see Aoba got some much deserved props with her stealing all of the bases. :spaz

A tight and enjoyable game, IMO. Didn't mind one bit that their wasn't many people to see this game. The important characters saw all they needed to that game xD

I was hoping Miki would return and add another solid player to the team. Guess that would be too much to ask for him to transfer for a 2nd time in the year though. Hope we get to see him again though.

I figured Azuma would stay given his brother was telling him constantly just to enjoy playing the game and to have fun. Also figured he was the cause of his brothers leg injury when he said if you only hurt yourself on the stairs. Still nice to get a little more background on his character plus him and Kou learning more about each other now that they are living together.

As everyone else said I enjoyed Aoba's date, she was rearing to go and was just dragging everyone around with her. I thought her little sister was gonna drag Kou out to the amusement park to see who she was with. Found the rumor of those two dating enjoyable as well and look forward to future developments due to implications of it.

It comes into play but it's hardly a major factor. Probably only matters when both parents are of equal ability in providing the best for the child. Courts tend to look at what will be best environmentally for the child and it's future as the main factor rather than just a childs wishes.
Even in cases where the father can provide a better lifestyle the mother is often chosen because of antiquated sexist values.

Pretty good for a relaxing episode. I'm slowly but surely getting used to the whole "Wakaba is dead" moments from all the characters. It was originally annoying but it seems like I'm gonna have to get used to it.

This Mizuki seems interesting in general as well as a love rival since he's open about his feelings and Aoba seems really friendly with him (no rage after kiss on the cheek? :amazed) so it'll be interesting to see how Kou deals with it.

A tad upset that Satomi ended up losing anyway but they still did good. I definitely agree with that old guy from Ouka that if Aoba was pitching from the start, Ouka would have lost.

It was fun seeing that Sawa girl lose her cool was pretty fun. Even for filler I suppose it was nice for the focus on Aoba and other female baseball players that are on her level or close to it.

Pretty entertaining episode. I found especially interesting that Aoba mistimed her first hit off that pitcher because she was expecting speeds similar to Ko's pitches. Aoba also managed to come up with a great game plan for getting hits off that pitcher. Her observation skills are pretty keen and the advice from Azuma paid off as I thought it would. As a pitcher Aoba 's experience against top batters like Azuma sure paid off.

Even though they lost, it was in such a way that you didn't feel like that was the case.

I'm hoping Keitarou lives up to all the hype he's getting when it comes time for Seishu to play Ryuou. I wouldn't say he's not concerned but Kou seemed a little...too laid back at the start of the ep in regards to eventually playing against Ryuou. Ryou's team seems pretty impressive so I think they'll manage to surprise Kou. I doubt Seishu will have too much trouble with Sannou so hopefully it'll be Seishu vs Ryuou in ep 26 or 27.

First half of the game against Sannou had me a bit worried with how Aoba's criticism on Kou's fielding came to bite him in the ass and how well Sannou's note taking had paid off. It was a pleasant surprise to find out Kou was just practicing fielding some more during the game and Aoba and Akaishi were aware. By the preview, it looks like the match with Sannou is wrapped up next episode. Still eager to see Seishu vs Ryuou.

I'm looking forward to seeing how well Shimano plays since he kind of came off as an arrogant but skilled player from the talk between Keitarou and the coach. It also looks like Keitarou knows Azuma.

Finally Ryuou vs Seishu underway. As expected from the preview last week, Seishu is off to quite a good start and Shimano is getting put in his place. With Keitarou apparently joining the field or at least batting next episode, I expect for Ryuou to be making a comeback.

The new ED is nice but I'll miss Orange Days. Interesting to see a more grown-up version of Wakaba in the OP and ED. She looks nice.

I'm surprised she cared at all about the game. She certainly didn't seem to care much when she was the manager. Guess Kou's help had an impact on her.

Glad we get to see some game action again interested in what impact Keitarou going to the first base box will have on the game. I imagine things will get more difficult for Kou from that point on. Was surpised by Aoba's enthusiasm for Kou she normally roots for the team but is reserved and quick to point out his weaknesses. Wonder if we will ever get that pairing or if it will just be a constant tease throughout the show.

And boo at no more Nomo's Drawing Song, I looked forward to that almost as much as the episodes lol

Of course we later found out that Aoba was in center in a flashback. But with his climbing ability I thought it was a natural fit for him to be in the outfield.

Aoba getting angry at those two fanboys and telling them off was nice and I liked how Azuma managed to foil Matsuhima and Shimano's plans. And Shimano raging in the ambulance over Keitarou's homerun. :lmao

Things were pretty intense between Keitarou and Kou right before the end of the episode and I enjoyed it. Oikawa is pretty exceptional at pitching too. I'm glad with them in the game, Seishu is getting more of a challenge because for all the hype Ryuou got, Kou was making the earlier part of the match look like a walk in the park.

I really don't know what to expect from the extra inning next episode, it seems like anything can happen. Both Oikawa and Keitarou are pretty damn good though and Keitarou is living up to the hype he got so I wouldn't be surprised if they ended up bagging Ryuou a win.

I was looking up information as to how many episodes this will be, and I caught it by accident :cry Since I saw it I've been waiting for her to come on, so I'm not as shocked =( Can't believe you just noticed though, she's in the new OP like a few weeks ago, and she's also on the ED =3

But, like you, I'm really excited for the next episode too, as soon as I saw the spoiler about her, I quickly closed the tab so I didn't see anything regarding the actual games :lmao

I thought the girl in the updated OP and new ED was supposed to be Wakaba but how she would have looked if she had grown up. :sweatdrop

In regards to the game, I was on the fence on who to expect to win but I figured it was more likely Ryuou would pull off a victory after last week. Overall, it was pretty nice game and a good comeback for Ryuou since it almost felt like Kou's pitching was dominating for the first half of the game before Shimano got sent out due to injury.

Looks like next episode is mostly flashbacks focusing on Wakaba and Kou. Looking forward to seeing who the girl is and her interaction with mostly Kou, Akaishi and Aoba and her family, if she does meet the ones mentioned after Kou that is. I'm also interested in Mizuki's role from now on. He's been moping on about Aoba more and more lately and hasn't mixed things up in Aoba's and Kou's non-baseball relationship as much as I had expected back when he was first introduced.

It was a great game but due to that injury he sustained by catching that ball, the ending was kind of anti-climatic. I figured he would lose due to some kind injury but didn't think the opposing pitcher would be the one to lay the winning hit.

This is a weird anime. I don't mind it but frankly there is no sense of time or feeling of achievement when milestones are met. It has a "meh" feel to it like reading random pages from a diary rather than telling a story. If it wasn't for the hints passed down to link us to how long a has elapsed it would feel like a few weeks have only passed.

Wakaba and Kou and their relationship as kids was really cute. I find Akaishi's infatuation with Wakaba despite how kind of big and brutish he looks to be cute too :amuse.

The episode was mostly of scenes already shown or things told about but I still managed to enjoy the revisit to Wakaba and Kou's relationship in the past. I T_T'd @ Kou and Akaishi crying while the 1st ED played. That shit got to me :-(. I felt bad too when Wakaba told Kou she couldn't wait to see what kind of man he'd become and after their agreement to go to the summer festival knowing what would happen to her the next day.

Even though I liked the episode, I'm still a little miffed that there was pretty much no progress in story and we're still at the same point as last ep. I'm looking forward to the seemingly multiple dates for the festival next episode, though.
