So while waiting for the new releases this week i decided to take a blast from the past and start watching Gundam 0083. Anyone else taking the time to rewatch the UC Series as well while we wait during the week for new releases like Gundam 00?

I'm currently watching the original gundam actually. I haven't seen it before, but so far I've enjoyed it (besides that annoying blond brat with the oversized head and the squeaky voice. Every time she speaks it feels as if a million cats are sharpening their claws against the blackboard of my soul. There must be a special place in hell for characters like that)
(btw; I make no claims of being a gundam expert whatsoever. I'm rather noobish tbh)
Nope. But I just would like to say nice choice. I like Stardust Memory.

I watched Gundam F91 for the first time over the weekend, thought it was pretty decent but obviously suffered from the same traditional character and plot format every other series does.

Am I the only person who didn't really like Kou Uraki much? By the end I actually wanted the Delaz fleet and Gato to win.

0083 is such a good series. Probably my favorite Gundam series. No stupid newtype bullshit or one little Gundam destroying 100 fodder GMs/Zakus or the sort. There's a good sense of realism, and I like that in anything fictional.

Just finished 0080 War in the Pocket and Char's Counterattack. Kinda makes me wish 00 would have more mobile suit fights as in the UC series. Anyways i decided to change this to just a general discussion of any UC series.

I've been going back to rewatch and for some, watch for the first time, all of the UC Gundam series. I've finished up with Gundam 0079, Zeta Gundam and Gundam ZZ. I've had already seen 08th MS Team, Gundam 0083: Stardust Memories and Victory Gundam, but will be rewatching them. Now to just watch the rest.

I'm actually watching the UC shows for the first time, I got 0079 from a torrent and bought the first half of Zeta. I'm a little disappointed that Char ga Kura isn't playing when Char appears like it's supposed to.

I watched Char's Counter Attack today. Great movie, but I really fucking hated Quess. I'm glad she died. I kinda liked Chan, but of course Hathaway had to be a bitch and kill her.

I loved every freaking moment of Amuro screaming "SHAAA!! :yell".

Katz: LOLOL you're to slow.
Asteroid: *hello*
Katz: ohh FFFFFF!!! *hits asteroid*
Yazan: Lol dumbass...*shoots*
Asteroid: *hello again*
Katz: *crashes, and dies.*

Eh, I won't get started on my usual "Zeta is the best" kind of ranting, but I do love some UC Gundam.
Apart from 0083 and Double Zeta I've seen pretty much all of them, Zeta being my favorite.
The original is also pretty amazing if you give it a chance, 8th MS team... not so much.

After CCA i still dont know if to keep going with UC.
Is just so that ive heard so many bad things about gundam victory...Besides CCA was so amazing overall that is like the perfect ending for the story.
Ah screw it i may as well skip victory and watch F91, then i say i have watched all of UC :laugh

...well, considering Victory is after F91, there's not a problem with watching F91 first if you're going in continuity-order...

does G-saviour actually suck? ppl say it spoils the UC universe
NewtypeS3

G-Saviour is actually far better than a live-action production we'd have seen in Japan at the time.*
In essence, G-Saviour was written in (and major designs were done by) Sunrise of Japan (hence the Tomino-esque trappings here and there), with the rest of the work shoved off to a Canadian studio - the same Canadian studio responsible for Starship Troopers and Stargate SG1, and maybe even Power Rangers: Lost Galaxy (the movie borrows the same uniforms from ST & PR:LG, with the G-Saviour's cockpit being recycled for SG1) with an incredibly low budget.
The writing? Better than you'd expect. It involves plots that Gundam has yet to scratch, including the concept of controlling a population through hunger. Mark Curran is also a rather likable Gundam main, if a little shafted through his movie being unliked (more because Japan is Xenophobic about anything done with their franchise by foreigners than anything else), and the evil group CONCENT are a nice little group of competent Titans.
The casting? Also good. It's not going to win awards, but Lady Une's VA plays a major role, and a few other characters are good.
The GCI for mecha? ...that's where we hit a snag. Remember the low budget? Most of it went here, and that's because it was either this or rubber suits. Coming just two years before CGI became incredibly cheap, it's a miracle the CGI looks this good. The mech combat is enjoyable, and units move believably - and the Ground-Form G-Saviour looks sweet. However, the designs do suffer somewhat from the conversion from paper to CGI.
Really, if you go into it not expecting Japan's version of Gundam (the word Gundam is nowhere in the script) and not expecting more than your average TV movie... you'll be pleasantly surprised.
If you go in expecting some sort of magical Gundam work that re-tells the original story like every fan seems to want yet will never see... you're going to be horribly ashamed.
I personally give it a 7 out of 10, but do wish they gave us English subs - the audio can be a little noisy. There's also a Japanese dub, but without the subs, we can't really watch and compare... XD
------------------
*What I mean by that is this: Japan has very little respect for the CGI-effects in their nation's film industry. Physical effects, such as rubber suits and explosions, are always done at least competently... but the moment CGI is injected into anything, the work appears a good 10 years older. A solid example would be the Kamen Rider and Super Sentai movies continually put out. They're also low-budget, but the big-budget movies of Kamen Rider THE FIRST and THE NEXT wind up falling into this same problem!
Really, it's utterly depressing. Even when a work is pure-CGI, like MS Igloo, it completely pales in comparison to even the non-Pixar-movies... and they have comparable levels in budget.
So, really, G-Saviour would have been far worse in Japan, and it's not even that bad in the first place.
