A US Airways plane has crashed into the Hudson River, in New York.

Miraculously, all passengers and crew on a plane that crashed into New York’s Hudson River have survived, according to news reports.

The US Airways Airbus A320 had 148 passengers and five or six crew aboard when it crash-landed shortly after take-off from LaGuardia Airport in New York on its way to Charlotte in North Carolina.

The US Federal Aviation Administration says 135 people were onboard the flight to Charlotte in North Carolina, which crash landed in the river near 48th Street in New York City.
The plane has now been surrounded by boats and ferries, with passengers climbing onto wings and exit chutes or being pulled onto boats in the frigid waters.

It’s not known if there are any injuries at this stage.
The aircraft is now sinking slowly into the water.

The flight left La Guardia Airport this morning bound for North Carolina.
A witness, Ben, told CNN he saw the whole thing.

“Put it this way, if someone’s going to try to land a plane in the water, this seemed to be the best possible way to do it,” he said.

“The angle at which they hit the water was very, very gradual. It wasn’t going particularly fast – it was a very slow contact with the water that it made.”
It’s believed a ‘birdstrike’ - a collision with a flock of birds - may have caused the crash. http://livenews.com.au/Articles/2009/01/16/Plane_crashes_into_Hudson_River

Yeah a miracle. I see nothing miraculous here only a skillful pilot and a a large body of water.

Kudos do the pilot, not many in his position would've mastered that situation.

It's fine, but recent developments are showing that some have acquired hypothermia, which may lead to other deaths if unchecked. Hospital or airport, they're gonna delayed to Charlotte.

Certainly impressive that so many people made it through that alive. Here's hoping those with hypothermia pull through it as well. Birdstrike, eh? Never heard of those before, oh the hazards of flying. D:

Birdstrikes are one of common dangers to aircraft. And it's a bitch to clean off the blood.

Oh pooh, I was hoping someone got at least severely injured. Oh well, I guess not all pilots are dumbfucks with the attention span of a rodent.

Not to mention 29 years of experience in flying airplanes.

I saw this on the TV news earlier.

It's definitly amazing that everyone survived. The crew did a great job.

At least it didn't go down because of crappy maintenance problems either. It was birds. Unfortunate though really and I feel sorry for the bird or birds that must have been killed.

I am happy that all the people survived, but I though that they cleared the runway of birds prior to take off. Oh well. Sad what happened but everyone is allive.

It happened in midair. 3 minutes into the flight, the engines burst, according to the passengers.

Exactly.

Pilot had some mad skills. Now if it were landed by one of those food carts while the flight crew were in the shitter or in the back of the plane fuckin' a flight attendant. Then we got a miracle.

Pilot Error accounts for far more accidents than maintenance.

An interesting story. Apparently, the pilot ditched the plane so well that it had enough structural integrity to float in the Hudson long enough to get the passengers and crew rescued.

No kidding. Is there some sort of Distinguished Flying Medal that Airliner pilots can get? Because if this were a Military thing, the pilot would be up for the Congressional Medal of Honor.

And as to whether or not this was miraculous...define miracle.

If there isn't, than their should be.

How often do you hear of a plane crash like this? Maybe once in a life time, if ever?

How often do you hear of a plane crash like this? Maybe once in a life time, if ever? Less. Could be wrong, but I think this is the first time such a large aircraft has had such a successful water landing after losing its engines. It's like trying to land a flying hotel.

I think you're right. Something like this would have stood out a whole lot if it had happened before.

And as to whether or not this was miraculous...define miracle.

An interruption of the laws of nature, such that it can only be explained by evoking the supernatural.

In my opinion describing event such as these as miracles only serves to cheapen them by deflecting the credit away from the real people it is due to and on to unfalsifiable, indistinguishable from fiction notions such as God, gods, spirits, energy, karma, or the flying spaghetti monster.

Kudos to the pilot-- the landing was as flawless as a water landing can be. There is hardly anything miraculous about this, though.

True. It probably helps that the plane had bird strikes while still somewhat low in altitude. If that plane had been miles up when the engines failed it would've been much, much harder to land the plane in the water.

IT'S A MIRACLE THAT THE HUDSON IS NOW PROBABLY FILLED WITH JET FUEL!!! It's a miracle that we might have a small ecological crisis now thanks to this.

Seriously skilled pilot and water landing. Ahh how I hatez the "miracle claimz".
