I laughed my arse off quite a bit, especially during the first two discs. Epsiode 8 is classic. Best Osaska episode ever, plus Chiyo-dad... need I say more! "Yo!"

5 out of the 6 volumes of the anime are out and you can buy them at Best Buy, Target, and fye. Those are the places I've seen them in my hometown. Be sure though to get Vol. 1 with the series box however, so when you collect them, they'll be nice and protected.

Azumanga Daioh is great. I've seen it twice through a few years ago on fansubs.

I love the series, it's hilarious, although not all of the humour will appeal to everyone.

I bought all four of the mangas soon after it was licensed by ADV.

I agree, but the Australian censors didn't like Kimura's antics in episode 4 (with the pool) and they rated Volume 1 MA (restricted to those 15 and over unless accompanied by a guardian) in Australia. :(

I agree wholly. For the kids there are the antics of Tomo-chan and Osaka. But then there is Kimura-sensei for some of us older ones (I LIKE HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS THAT'S WHY!!! :p ) Also, all the puns on traditional Japanese culture is entertaining to watch.

All in all a great series that is fun to watch! Check it out!

Well, I got the whole series in a subbed box-set. But I bought it in Hong Kong, so that's probably not much help ^^;

Well, I kind of agree with you.

I finished reading the manga (f*cking hilarious, read that!!) and then watched the anime and I found that I didn't laugh at many of the jokes. I really just watched it to see my favorite parts animated (and because Osaka and Tomo rock).

The manga is different. It's kinda like American comics in the fact that every day (usually) is 4 panels and every panel ends with a punch line which, 90% of time, leaves you with a smirk or you laughing out loud.

I highly recommend the manga. It's only 4 volumes.

well it is an acquired taste... you need to understand the japanese cuture to be able to comprehend and laugh at the jokes... :laugh For me, it is one of the best comedy anime out there... i have not see Yakitate! Japan, so this anime tops my comedy anime list... 2nd would be Full Metal Panic! Fummoffu, then Galaxy Angels come in 3rd.... :)

Ah anyway I know im waaay late to this series but I saw Chammy's avys from the series and they made me want to see it in the worst way.

And omigosh am I glad I did...I absolutely LUVED it...Too many single items to list...It was just all so...fun and enjoyable. Each and everyone of the characters was so much fun to watch especially the teachers. Oh and chiyo-chan...She has to absolutely be the most kawaii little girl ive ever seen...Especially her voice... :faint


So overall id say its probably one of my favorite comedy series ever now and im kinda sad that there arent anymore episodes to watch. :(

Sakaki and Chiyo are a good fit for friends. I mean Sakaki still retains some of her childlike innocence even though she hides it leaving most people to believe she's cool and Chiyo whose a little kid, has to deal with being a high school student. I think my fav episode with those two is the one where Chiyo and Sakaki ended up playing Jump rope at the very end. :amuse

I preferred the sub over the dub. I tried the dub....but when I heard Osaka's voice for the first time in english, I got turned off and switched bach to japanese audio xDD

I just started watching this series this week. Actually, someone in the forums recommended this for me, not to mention that it's another "4-koma turned anime series", like Lucky Star.

So far, I've seen 12 episodes and I can safely say it's good stuff.

And Sakaki-san FTW. I really like the silent, tall girl who has a guilty pleasure for cute stuff, especially cats, who apparently doesn't like her. :lmao

I actually liked her character than Yomi, the series' meganekko (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meganekko). Osaka comes in second. Although that may change after I check out the rest.

That's essentially how I felt. Their high school years went by so fast within the those 26 episodes. Sakaki's triump of finally finding a friendly cat was pretty sweet.


Sensei no Ojikan is essentially within the same mold except the teacher is at the center of the series (because she looks younger than the students), but it's generally the same style as Azumanga Daioh, in fact it can be considered Azumanga's forefather series (the comics came out before Azumanga), however, Azumanga came out as an anime before Sensei no Ojikan :lmao

Oh yeah, another moment in the series that got to me was when Osaka "unknowningly" tried doing a Higurashi to Yukari-sensei. :P

Speaking of themes, the theme songs, I mean, at first I didn't like the OP (Soramimi Cake), but eventually I found out that the song was LSS-inducing and believe me, it was ringing in my head for days that I was able to like it. Same with "Raspberry Heaven", which has a relaxing feel in it.

Everything I said ever since I started posted in this thread only says one thing - I love this series. I don't mind re-watching it all over again. :thumbs

Well, Sakaki personality is the polar opposite of her outward appearance. Everyone thinks she has this cool exterior, but she's really into cute things especially cats. And she's quiet because she's shy and not because she's cold towards people, which is why I think alot of people like her.

And Osaka with that Knife is a classic AzuD scene that will be engraved in the minds of fans for all eternity :lmao

And Soramimi Cake sounded kind of weird at first but it's now a guilty pleasure of minds when I listen to it on my MP3 player xDD

Now that I think of it, neither of Chiyo's parents were shown in the first place. And I find that running gag of Chiyo-chichi really amusing. Blame Sakaki for that. :P

I use Media Classic Player or VLC player to play dual audio files. And they usually have a OGM file extension.

Both players give you the option to select the audio track and whether to use sub-titles or not (if the file provided such options).

That is actually the problem with regards to dubbing characters that speak in Kansai.

I remember in one of the anime that was dubbed in Filipino who had a Kansai-speaking character, the voice sound like one of our local dialects. Which really annoyed me.

Having said that, I don't know if I get to tolerate Osaka's voice in the ADV dub. I'm okay with Chiyo's English VA. Although I'm saying this based on the trailer that I saw.

It would take me forever to list everything, so I basically just typed what was funny to me :laugh.

Plus, I'm already dead tired from typing, so I just decided to leave it at that.

In all honesty there isn't too much of a difference between either versions unless you want to see Yukari talk to the foreigner who isn't English speaking anymore but Spanish and you happen to like Osaka's Southern accent.

After that there really isn't that much to the dub :noworry
