I saw Zatch Bell and I was very interested into it. The background songs sounded like the original and also the dubbing was really good. The company that did it was none other then Naruto's liscenser, ShoPro so I hope they do a good job on Naruto like they did with this show.
I watch this series. Great series and very very funny especially Fulgore! "Chi chi wo moge moge oppai"
I'm only up to around Episode 23 or so. Though the group that's subbing it is only up to 40 out of 89 and they aren' that fast... This series is quite popular in Japan, well was looking at some ratings stuff a few weeks ago and it was around #1 - #3 or somewhere around that area. I know the manga runs in the Shonen Sunday also.

I've watched this anime to ep38 I think. Since then I haven't downloaded any more episodes. It's a shame there are so few subbing it, when it's a really funny anime that is worth watching.
Also, about how many raws there are out. I've seen up to ep116 raw on torrents, and that was like 5 months ago.

Well, that's always good to hear. But on another forums i heard that it actually had different music and how the original title wasn't Zatch Bell.....but, oh well, it's already been confirmed that the title will remain Naruto. It's nice to know that their dubs can still draw you in. But wait, isn't Shopro just the licenser who then proceeds to give the anime to dubbing company? Cuz the talk of the Konoha TV section is that the Ocean Group might be the one to snatch Naruto (which would be good) and I don't think they dubbed Zatch Bell....
:amuse But I agree with, I hope ShoPro does really well with Naruto. Especially after receiving probably hundreds upon hundreds of e-mails from concerned fans. Don't kill our Naruto! :narutokyu

Naruto already has an established fanbase here in "Merica (at least it should, lol) so I don't think these peeps can do too bad with the dub...I'm looking forward to it!

Well, if the dubber is, in fact, going to be the Ocean Group, that would be kick arse as they don't change any of the background music to my knowledge and they usually release really good dubs.

Quite possibly. Sorry, I'm not very well informed when it comes to dubbing companies. :darn
Well didn't get to see it last night as didn't even know it was airing...
But yeah the original name was Konjiki no Gash. The two main characters name was Kiyomaro and Gash. I heard are all those were changed. I also heard instead of referring to them as demons and about the 50 times they say it each episode they simply used the japanese name but altered a few letters...
Hopefully I have to chance to see the next episode dub to see how good it is.

Well don't know much about Ocean Group but I believe they were a Canadian dubbing company and they did Dragonball Z and Gundam SEED. Well their dbz dubs were better than Funimation in terms of VAs...

Yeah, i heard about them being the ones to do the SEED dub. I saw it, it was actually pretty damn good. It was good enough to get me interested in downloading the rest of the series, that is.

i find it ironic that this is above the "Zatch Bell" thread. Since they are supposedly the same show.

All's I know is that Ocean Studios have been involved in many anime dubbing (*), some of them are:
-Dragon Ball Z (1st/2nd Season & 4th+ Season [Outside US only])
-New Mobile Report Gundam W
-New Mobile Report Gundam W: Endless Waltz (OVA & Movie)
-Inu Yasha
-Ranma 1/2
-Hamtaro (yes......Ham -freaking- taro!!!!)
-Mobile Suit Gundam
-Mobile Suit Gundam Seed
-Silent Möbius
(*) Ocean has also been involved in script adaptation and ADR Production in other anime, but haven't been directly involved in dubbing; i. e.:
-Mobile Fighter G Gundam
-Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam
-Banner Of The Stars I & II
Adios.
Well I saw the dub and well it's bad...
Gash's/Zatch personality really seems to have changed with his VA, same with Suzume/Susy. And well... I don't know if they changed the music or not since I watched that episode a loong time ago, but really it was completely unfunny as opposed to when I saw the sub. They also changed the shotgun the guy was holding to some very rounded laser futuristic gun...
The voices don't suit the characters at all and things are more... well washed out you can say, not as funny and not as 'dramatic' or whatever.

Who dubbed Zatch Bell? Viz? As I understand it, ShoPro doesn't do the actual dubbing.
Well I thought ShoPro did the dubbing. Well now ShoPro is a part of Viz so I don't know.

The series was dubbed by Bang! Zoom! Entertainment, out in LA. The person who plays Zatch is a woman named Debi Derryberry. The only other voice I recognized was Crispin Freeman as the bully in Ep. 1. But I don't like the show, so more may show up later that I won't ever hear.
And I didn't really like the dub, anyway, as strange as that may sound coming from me. I just felt that Zatch's voice was WAAAAAYYYY too annoying, not to mention the fact that Derryberry also plays Jimmy in Jimmy Neutron on that channel o' crap called Nickelodeon.

Ocean has two studios: Westwood in Vancouver and Blue Water in Calgary. Westwood is the better one. They're known for Dragonball Z, Mobile Suit Gundam, Gundam Wing, and Zoids Zero, etc. BW is known for making lower-quality dubs, such as Zoids Chaotic Century, G Gundam, Zeta Gundam and D.I.C.E..

I don't really like the show at all. I just don't like the character desing at all. Suzie, or whatever her name is, has too big a space between her eyes. She looks almostlike she should be in Pac-Man or something. The dub, I don't really like it either. Zatch and Suzie are really annoying. And the plot just doesn't draw me in.

Suzie is meant to be very childish/stupid/idotic/etc... She isn't really supposed to look good or anything and her only purpose is, is for humor. She just pops in every once in a while.
The plot doesn't draw you in? Well nothing is explained until Episode 4... Zatch I didn't like at first but overtime he just got better and better and well he's a cool character. Though there are cooler demons such as Brago, that short black demon that was in the car in episode 2.

I know. I'm just stating my first impressions after two episodes of a dub I don't really like. And I just can't look at Suzie, I'm sorry. Even for comedy I can't stand to look at those eye proportions. I had planned to give it my normal 4 episode try out, which is what I do for all anime I look into. It has till then to draw me in.

DON'T YOU KNOW BY NOW???? NEITHER SHOPRO, NOR ANY OTHER ANIME COMPANY, DOES DUBBING DIRECTLY! They hire a studio, such as Ocean. The only exceptions are ADV and FUNi, who do in-house dubbing (they use their own actors the way you think ShoPro does).
And it's not the dub that affects the quality of a series, it's the 4Kids-erizing (editing) that fucks it up.

Actually, the quality of the dub does affect teh quality of the released series. If all I'm subjected to was SEED's horrible dub, then I might not like it. But having seen the unedited, subbed versions of it I really enjoy. And I know, the editing cut down dialogue time in some places, creating a rushed job for some actors. But what I say is you can't have S*** whithout having crap to begin with.
The dubs can have a huge affect on the series...
It simplpy alters the tone of the whole anime, changes the whole feel and personaltiy of the characters if they do something like 4kids or this gash dub does.

Started watching Gash Bell a while ago. I thought it'd be kind of childish and I'd dislike it... but it was a lot better than I expected. Quite good, has funny and yet not always an "happy ending" for everyone.

Dude, Suzume is one of the best characters in the anime. She's sweet, kind, a bit clutzy, and an airhead. (the randoim popups were NOT in the manga btw)
I haven't seen Zatch Bell yet (but I'll see the permiere in Canada on the 9th), but Konjiki is awesome.
I love the show itself and the plot is very amusing and interests me very much. Code was the person who introduced it to me, and I thank him. :amuse

There's already a thread on this, but there hasn't been a reply since May, so I guess this is okay.
Anyway, I really like this series, and I think it's underappreciated because people watch the dub and they go, "It's like Pokemon so it's going to be stupid." :notrust The characters are all really weird and they overemote, but that's what makes it so funny. xD

Zatch Bell! was better than Naruto(ep. 1-20) before. But in one year, Naruto exceeded over Zatch Bell! (due to plot & character advancement). Lately, they've been doing nothing but bitching about how "fighting is wrong". (Let's all do nothing all day but play with Volcan, Ponygon, and Suzy, and watch Praying Mantis Joe, while good spells go to waste. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUN!!!!. Zatch is one of the cheezy characters that fight for justice and not for the exciting action of it. He never says anything like "what kind of guys are we going to fight?". He always looks so serious in the promo artworks. And can anyone count how mant times he cried in any episode!? Typical little kid with no taste! :notrust

Manga spoilers:
Yeah, it's nice to see Ashuron finally show up. He looks badass. I actually hope whips up on Gash pretty bad.
Zeon manga spoilers:
I'm also not sure who I want to win anymore.. for a very long time I've been rooting for Zeon, but well you know.
And yeah, it'd be nice to have some discussion about the manga and what not, but with the furthest scanalation group being pretty far behind (null at 15 I believe?) not many people know what's going on in the manga or follow the raws. Not to mention the pimping thread for it hasn't been updated in months, and the original thread in like 1-2 years heh.
It also doesn't help that people watched the Zatch dub and got turned off of this series before it really got good. The 1000 year demon arc was fantastic, filled with great battles and alot of drama. Not to mention the fantastic touching music. But it seems most people gave up on this series well before even getting there.
Regardless, this thread reminded me to check up on gash episodes. Didn't notice since I've last paid attention 86-91 got subbed. Off to download.

After watching the dub years ago and stopping around the end of the 1000 year Demon arc, I decided to watch the series over again from the very start but the actual fansubs.
I'm glad I did, because I gained new found respect for Folgore's song after finding out what it's really about :laugh
I also forgot Victoreem's theme song which was also enjoyable, and just finished watching Big Boing's theme song which had me rolling with laughter :rotfl
I still have roughly 40 more episodes to go and realize it has an anime only ending based on the fact the anime ended well before the manga, but the final anime arc looks entertaining.

^The anime actually deviated from the manga around mid way through the Faudo arc (Episode 138 and covered up to ch.211)
Just finished watching the anime and read up to ch.215 if the manga, and the anime did a great job of faithfully following the manga up until episode 138.
The anime ending was okay, but I felt that Gash got quite a cheap uber power up to defeat Zeon. And I wasn't surprised they decided to just end the Faudo arc and leave the rest open (although it shows them having a showdown with Brago and Sherry.)
