Mmm. Same for me, I haven't actually seen all of Dragonball Z, even though I was a massive fan. A lot of the Namek saga I completely missed because of scheduling conflicts, and then also just losing interest. I picked up again around the Ginyu arrival too. And then stopped watching around the Buu saga again due to DBZ moving to a channel that I didn't have, and then me never bothering to backtrack when I got the channel.
I know a lot of what happened, but due to never sitting down and watching, I'm quite excited because a lot of the upcoming episodes will either be brand new to me or be real bits from my past, as what I did watch of the Namek saga, I only watched once... when I was 9.
I'm now 19 smile-big

I take it that was CNX?

I loved DBZ as a kid, and used to buy merchandise, DVDs and video games. I still do love the series, gotta love guys like Goku and Vegeta. My favorite sagas were the Frieza and the Android/Cell saga.

My first episode was the episode where the z senshi was fighting the saibamen. DBZ was very popular at my elementary school. I was 5 when I first saw DBZ. I remember being confuesed at the action figure of the characters that didn't show up yet in the us.
I kew about cell and majin long before their episodes were shown in america because of the action figures.
I have seen the freeza saga through the introduction of trunks subbed on veoh a few years bakc but they were taken down shortly after.

By the way, what is best fansubbing group that's doing Dragonball Kai? I want to try to watch this.
:lmao I remember those subs too. Ah the good old days of KaZaA and not being able to find what you wanted
I often found porn along side with DBZ episodes as well as DBZ and porn mixed into one package known as Sailor Moon and the 7 Balls. :zaru

Vegeta's english dub is :gar
haha yeah, there's only a very small amount of shows where I'm 100% happy with the dub. Trigun, DBZ, YYH, and FMA. Besides those I haven't found any other dubs that I enjoy as much as the Japanese version(or more in certain cases). Oh I almost forgot Inuyasha, but I can't say I was 100% happy with that since Kagome's voice made me want to stab something, everyone else was great though.

Goku says stuffs like Asshole, Shithead, Trash and such to frieza, when he's SSJ.

No... he doesn't. I dunno what subtitles you've watched, but when he went Super Saiyan, all cursing, and 90% of his hick talk went out the window.
Xell, yeah, that was CNX. I had NTL Digital which didn't get CNX for a couple of months. But then I also just started missing episodes, after Majin Buu becomes Super Buu, I don't really know much about what happened until Vegeta comes back.
Insane111, don't you like the dubs for Evangelion, Wolf's Rain, Outlaw Star, or have you not seen those? Because they were some of the best dubbing I've ever seen/heard :P

I thought Bebop has a pretty good dub ep.
This weeks episode was alright, I was more like 'finally' than excited by it all though. Vegeta just wouldn't go down.

as of Goku's "Asshole"

But when I looked at Daizex, I found this fitting sentence.
It is important to note that while Goku does speak somewhat differently (firmly) when he has first turned SSJ, he does not suddenly start speaking with a foul mouth.

I love DBZ and if you haven't watched it then you haven't been living. I remember downloading DB and DBZ and going to watch DB for the first time and DBZ for a second time. But after the first episode of DB I realized it was better to watch DBZ since it has a lot of action and I wanted to rewatch. What I didn't know is that it spoiled a lot of DB like Picollo and stuff. But rewatching DBZ was fun and I never knew how much plot it had when I thought it was all action. Like the end of the freiza saga when it came to wishing goku back and Dr.Gero. I watched it my second semester and it helped me through my depression and was a joy. DB was awesome too because it was never boring and more on marital arts. I also loved the power level stuff in the beginning of DBZ.
For the heck of it.

When you think about it, ever since the beginning of the series Goku just keeps getting stronger because there will always be a much stronger fighter than him. Proof is in the Movie Broly returns he managed to return stronger than before

You can't use proof from a non cannon movie, but yes Goku always gets stronger then his enemies because he is the only 1 that can defeat them. The exception being Cell, only Gohan could kill cell.

Ugh. I had Final Bout. Poor, poor excuse of a fighting game. I remember playing it for about 10 minutes, and then just putting in Tekken 2.
I have Budokais 1-3. And yeah, 3 absolutely owns. I loved 1, purely as it was my first DBZ PS2 game and nothing could spoil it. I can remember playing from the beginning to the end in one afternoon, just watching it like a marathon of DBZ :P I never really liked Budokai 2. The board game story just seemed weird and uninteresting. I finished it, but didn't really replay it for fun like I did with 1 and 3.
3 was just great. I loved flying around the world, I just wish you could've explored the cities or something. For some reason, I absolutely love that. Like in the Naruto XBOX360 game, just being able to explore Konoha is an amazing piece of fun. I love it.
I love Budokai 3 as well. I wish it were possible to play online. I've bought Budokai 1-3 and Tenkaichi 1-3 but I've only kept the 3rd from each since they are the best out of their respective series. I want to get Raging Blast as well but I'll need to get a PS3 first.

back in the 90s me n my bro had that, ub22 and gt final bout (the american one..i liked the japanese intro better but it was still cool with funny dub voices) on our rigged psx. As bad as final bout was if you spent as much time at it as it took to master the Tekken 2 roster, including the subbosses and the most badass Tekken Boss of all time, Kazuya..plus roger alex angel and devil...you'd see that final bout can be pretty fun.. its just no one is willing to put in that amount of time into a game that pretty much sucks if you are still on the learning curve. especially if you dont have a bro playin with u to learn with.
hey I remember people earlier in this thread asking why Gohan didnt Oozaru when he first looked back at Vegeta's artificial moon, and the consensus was the distance..and that you had to be in range for the artificial to work. But the way Kurririn described it, it seemed like Gohans tail still wasn't fully back until during the battle with Vegeta in ep 16. He said Goku's tail suddenly appeared before too. When it did it was a night of a full moon. Could it be that the Brute waves from the moon/artificial moon triggered the gland in his tail too cause it to quickly reform?
also Im loooking for a dbz amv that was in my sig a while back. Can't find it anywhere..and my youtube profile from then was banned because my music videos used scenes from copyrighted japanese monster movies :/... it was a video to "Rule" The dbevolution themesong but the scenes were all from DBZ. Anyone seen it or know what im talkin bout?
I remember downloading DBGT Final Bout for a PSX emulator one time. That sure wasn't a very good game, but I guess the franchise really boosted it's image since I remember it costing more than $100 in ebay. :edu

Piccolo: Alright, that's also what I wanted.

^oh wow..I just remembered that one after all these years. Dunno how I forgot it. Some of those quotes were hillarious. I couldn't find that one but found a few other youtube ones here: http://forums.narutofan.com/showthread.php?p=22755265&highlight=youtube#post22755265
As for DBZ legends I think the best part of that game was supposed to be the huge multiplayer battles, in which you could play with 4 or maybe it was as many as 8 players...but for that you'd need that extra control dock which I didnt have.

Ugh. I had Final Bout. Poor, poor excuse of a fighting game. I remember playing it for about 10 minutes, and then just putting in Tekken 2.
When one of my neighbors got FB, we all played it and were amazed of this game. I remember one time, when I had normal adult Goku and did a Genkidama. Everybody wanted to know how I did it, but I just pressed some buttons lol

I cant decide between BT2 and BT3. BT3 has the better gameplay, more characters and maybe better features, but BT2 has the better soundtrack and better leveling-up system.
When it comes to soundtracks, FB was one of the best, along with B3 and BT2.

lol True! When I played the game with my friends, I enjoyed it. There is something sort of seminal about FB for me, it's like you can see the potential and what they tried to accomplish, which was amazing for a PS1 game.

-Edit- Just checked it out. Seems pretty damn cool. So it's like a whole load of "What if" storylines and battles?
Yeah, well kinda, fighters are taken from different dimensions, where something has happened which has altered the timeline, for example, Goku never being sent to earth, therefore becoming a regular saiyan soldier.
And another one is where all the namekians fused together to defeat Frieza, becoming the ultimate namekian warrior.
It is pretty good tbh.

DB Mulitverse is pretty good. I've been following it for a while now.
It's odd, I never get tired of watching re-runs of different DBZ sagas. I must have watched the Frieza, and Cell saga's all the way through at least 3 times over the last 3 years.

With all of the new music, I think we're just gonna have to expect it from kai...
...so I demand a REMIX!!!! Remix it, Mr. Yamamoto!!! :mad
(And remix some of your video game music for future Kai music, too!)
So now that the Saiyajin ended, which do you prefer? Kai or Z? I prefer Kai because its a lot faster, even though there are some moments that I prefer better in Z because of the music, for example the Kamehameha/Galick clash, the music was just perfect...

Japanese dbz owns hardYour wrong, the bird was there to symbolize how he loved life and how he loved nature. How he was always with birds and showed how peaceful he was. The monologue helped show what he was thinking then lame boring silence than boom. Funimation made that scene sad and epic. And he does let the hatred consume him scene he late andriod 16 die. I don't know about you but I felt it in the American version. I speak English so I can feel it, the emotion. I don't understand the Japanese language so it's hard to understand how a character sounds sarcastic, sad, fat, etc. You guys are Japanese everything. I beat Japanese people don't think that their voice acting is as goood as you people make it seem.
Catterix

And thus we see the difference.
FUNimation's decision wasn't stupid, but it was for a different audience. People like MOE evidently don't like silence, they prefer exact expository scenes that help explain the character's emotions.
However, there are other people who prefer silence, because suffering is silent. They feel it makes it more dramatic for the feeling to sink in, rather than being told how to think by a monologue.
Personally, I'm in the second. Not because it's Japanese but because I found Gohan's monologue to be contrived, melodramatic and insulting. I didn't need to be told how to feel, I felt it already.
And whilst MOE has a point, that some fans do just prefer it because it's Japanese, and thus exotic and they can't always tell if the acting is bad, it's pretty much unrefutable that the Seiyuu in the Japanese version are more skilled than the Dub actors. The Dub actors are great too, and could trump anyone in this thread, but the Seiyuu are just that good.
Oh, and MOE; sarcasm doesn't exist in the Japanese :P It's an English and French specific ideology.
It's kinda annoying when they added dialogue to scenes which were originally silent.
Catterix
08-06-2009, 11:52 PM
FUNimation did it to keep young kids interested. They thought that if the show had a single moment of silence, kids would turn away.
To be honest, I'm not fussed, but I don't appreciate MOE's tendency to insult the Japanese version just because it's so. But there are others who hate on FUNimation without much cause, so it's fairly balanced.
And yeah, the bird's image had nothing to do with it dying. The bird was a symbol of freedom, innocence and life. And with #16's death, it lifted from Gohan, as he gave into his anger and true power.
And thus we see the difference.

Anyways I don't hate Japanese version of anything, I just didn't like the DBZ one. I just hate how people hate on the dub for no reason when I have a reason. It also have to do with what you watch first. I've seen the scene when I was in elementary school(I think I was in elementary school when the cell saga started.) and I guess it sticked with me. Plus I don't like the Japanese version of Yu Yu Hakusho either but I loved the music, the original DBZ music for me was terrible. And I would never start over DBZ in subs, Kai was the exception and it isn't anything to brag about. Plus the double scream was better than the roar with Gohan's no scream. Plus I don't think anyone would know the scenes were originally silent if you watch the dub first.

Heehee, yeah, because I watched the Dub first, I tend to like it more. For me, Kai is just like a new show, so I can approach it from completely new perspectives.
I really don't like the music for Japanese Z. Even objectively, I just think it's bad music. It's lifeless, and is so damn repetitive. Whilst I don't think Faulconer is anywhere near being a great musical artist, I find his work to be more fitting for me, and often, though not very good, it fits the scenes more in my opinion.
Like with the Gohan's transformation scene, it seemed so much more morbid, and hopeless, alongside being robotic alongside the theme of the androids. I'd love that scene if it didn't have Gohan's monologue over it.
But yeah to be honest, I think most people like the Japanese version more because it's what they saw first. Not all, others prefer it just because it's Japanese. And some just can't stand the dub.
I'm really weird with dubs and original versions. I tend to watch the japanese version if it's something I got into when it was Japanese only, or if I think it needs to be Japanese. Like Naruto being about ninjas, or Rurouni Kenshin being obviously set in Japan. But for other shows, like Outlaw Star, Evangelion, Wolf's Rain, etc. that could be ambiguous, I tend to watch the dub, unless the dub is just terrible.

I also watch dub dbz,I watch dub naruto, subbed Naruto,dubbed bleach,subbed bleach and I have my prefered choices but the point is if there's a dub on tv I'm gonna watch it and I'm probably gonna like it but I still usually love the japanese dub more except in rare ocassions{like yu yu hakusho}

Your wrong, the bird was there to symbolize how he loved life and how he loved nature.
Im not Japanese everything, but the funi db dub post season 2 bordered between ok, lame, and really borderline gay (not that anything is wrong with that, live your life but why do they want so badly to turn Freeza from a crazed megolomaniac to a flamboyantly gay man? I don't know) sounding half the time. The music became atrocious (Falcouner is ok for Maritime Musicals, but he did the music for dbz like he was composing something to keep a 5 year olds short attention span..the original was epic), the giggling was cringeworthy, and from lines like "these balls give me something that resembles joy, I want to caress them" to making Goku go from sounding like a pissed off baddass SSJ, to some corny Clark Kent rip off when he's talking to Freeza had most of the people who were already true fans of the original feeling like they wanted to blow up Funimation Studios.
And thats just it, the reason why fans of the original hate the dub so much is because they were already fans, wanted to see it presented to US audiences in something that resembled its original format, to see it get changed so much like that. Sure the blood being censored in seasons 1 and 2 wasnt good, and they made some erroneous changes like making Bardock the inventor of the Artificial Saiyan Brute Wave Moon. But at least the dialogue and music (even though it was changed...why the english version has to be the only dub out of dozens of international ones to change the music, I'll never know) wasn't directly aimed at kids in the single digits. I even liked the intro to the Ocean dub, and they had some accomplished VAs. Then Falcouner and the Texas crew took the helm.....blurgh!
YYH is a dub that I prefer the english though Ill watch the sub. Outlaw Star and Cowboy Bebop too. DBZ no way in hell do I prefer the english, though maybe Vegeta, Perfect Cell, and Piccolo's voices in the dub were on par with their counterparts maybe better, but too many other characters from main ones like Fat Buu to secondary ones like #19 had voices that made me want to throw a brick at the tv. Though the original DBs dub is ok.

Oh, and MOE; sarcasm doesn't exist in the Japanese
Where did you get that idea from? What do you call someone using overly polite honorifics when they actually hate the person or just to jokingly insult them? Other examples tend to be a lot... crueler than American sarcasm. Most of the time it's used as a flat out insult rather than humor, but both the mean and joking forms of sarcasm do exist in Japan.

Bit of a plothole when Kami says there was nothing to eat, as we learned Namekians don't eat. And the whole Namekian language thing was bull too. Unless it was some old style that evolved similar to English, they never did explain why the dragon only took requests in Namekian.
For that matter why King Piccolo's children were so beastly looking, perhaps that was because he was the evil part of Kami though.

Barely anything to eat may have been mentioned to drive home the point that it was a lonely place to be. There weren't even animals to spice the place up.
I especially enjoyed seeing Bulma in action. Poor girl's hair, totally overdid it and I bet she was feeling proud of herself for the 'sacrifice' she made.

With Piccolo's children, Toriyama originally intended Piccolo to be a demon, not an alien, so his children would end up looking moster-ish looking, I guess.

Im guessing the language spoken on earth is a universal language that they got from somewhere else unbeknownst to them. Which is why its the same language used by Freeza, the Saiyajin, earth, the majority of nameksejin encountered etc.. there is a native namek-sejin tongue, but I assume they stopped using it so much when most of their planet had to be repopulated.
Piccolo Daimao was really a namek who became demon, which is why everyone he killed couldn't go to the afterlife. Thats probably why his children looked like grotesque namekian demons as well.

Huh? The only time Bulma ever showed an interest in Goku was at the end of the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai, when he got married.
Bulma seems to heavily imply that she thinks made a mistake in going for Yamcha instead of Goku, because of how "handsome" he became. She thinks of Goku right after mentioning how her and Yamcha always argue..and then imagines Goku looks and says "Maybe I screwed up."
This was shortly after Goku returned on Namek, and Gohan and Krillin went to pick up the scouter from Bulma. I believe that particular scene was also in the manga.

In the anime at least, Bulma showed a several moments of affection for Goku that seemed more than just a close bond. Her seeming jealousy of Chichi when she and Goku got married in Dragonball. Her passing comment on Namek. And most specifically, when Goku was preparing to go into the Room of Spirit and Time, she tried to stop him, just fleetingly. At that moment, she showed no issue with Vegeta going into the room, but she really wanted to make sure Goku knew what he was doing, and she watched him long after.
I can't remember what else, but I remember in the manga, Bulma shedding a small tear in the Buu arc in regards to Goku, but this could easily have just been platonic love.
I always liked to believe that there was some tiny, kindling relationship between Goku and Bulma, something that was extra special because they'd known each other the longest. She related Goku to adventure. He related her to the world. For a long time, Bulma was Goku's only access to the world. It was through her that he discovered what being in love meant. And whilst I don't think they ever were meant to be together, I just like to imagine that there was some small hint of romance between them that remained nothing more than a spark.

your thinking way too deep for dragonball
Goku was never in love with chi chi,he had no clue what romantic love,sex or anything was.....he thought marriage was food for crying out loud.The only thing is he did remember her from his childhood and remembered he liked her back then{in a non romantic way}
Basically chi chi led him through everything and being easy going he just went along with it and learned to love her{essentially accepting the role as a good husband and father}
If bulma had been aggressive she could have led goku into marrying her and Goku would have just went with the flow. He would have met chi chi and be like" oh! sorry sorry! but I already got married ha ha ha innocent smile and laugh}
Then again...chi chi was old fashioned girl gets married, bulma was definitely different...so it might be hard to get Goku into a relationship that doesn't involve tying him down in marriage and bulma probably knew she couldn't have a worldly sex relationship with him cause he's not like that...he's pure of heart
remember that bulma couldn't ride that cloud but chi chi could.....anyway I don't even think bulma liked him like that. The namek scene seems to imply that she was just thinking of Goku like a trophy instead of actually regretting she never acted on feelings for him.

what? I want a manga page showing he says he always loved her cause I never saw nothing like that. I remember him saying he remembers her and the promise but he thought the promise was food and then he marries her just to be nice.
goku was/is an idiot when it comes to anything besides fighting and he's a man that goes with the flow as long as the flow coincides with his beliefs. Chi chi wanted him and he said"sure why not, she's pretty and she can fight like me!"

Funimation's been known to take huge liberties with almost all important lines in Dragon Ball/Z (and probably GT too, but I stopped caring by then).
The "heart" line was not in the manga, so yea, the Chichi/Goku relationship is somewhat sad in a way if you really think about it.
Then again, Akira Toriyama has admitted he's extremely shy when it comes to romance, which may be why Goku doesn't show much (if any) affection towards Chichi. :wink

Finally,
I didn't think I would have to download anything today to watch my cap consumption rate which only reset on the 12th, but I'm download 720p releases of DBK Kai 17/18, Dexter HDTV rip, and Naruto 720p. At this rate I should hit 20 gigs, but I still have 80 gigs so I should be ok.
