Hi everyone :)
I'm curious to see how confusing the forum's layout is at the moment for new people. So vote yes or no and post a reason below why it was confusing to you with possible ways of improvement. Thanks :laugh
I'm not promising anything, but we might be able to change it around depending on the results.

Konoha Mall is kinda a grey area. Most people don't notice there are actually separate forums in there... < polite way to point out that the musicforum is hidden from sight.
For there rest everything seems quite clear. Even for people who refuse to read before they post random crap.

Only time I got confused was that old fanfiction section...it was buried so deep, you could hardly find it at all...or even knew that it existed. They now fixed that with the addition of Konoha Fanworks section so it's all good!!

I've been to like one or two forums before this one and it's very similar to the others so it's not too bad. It's really straight forward.

They layout is good. Some of the names of the different forums don't really give an impression of what the forum is for but the description is right there to read so it's all good.
Forums with subforums could have something done to them so people realise there's subforums. I just found the music forum today...

Agree with this statement. Other than the Mall being confusing for a new user that has never actually gone in there, the forum is good the way it is.

There are still features that I didn't know were there, but I didn't have a hard time at first. Course, at first I was afraid to leave the House of Uzamaki forums. Took me weeks to venture into the FCs.

No problem,
There is one question, I'm an anime only watcher and I've chosen that in the user groups yet I can still see the manga forums.
Is that meant to happen?

I'd like to be able to access child forums directly from the main menu, ie Battledome

I'm a NF Johnny Come Lately, so I got to learn all the features which were added incrementally at the same time. No gripes here: I love this forum, it's the most full-featured and well designed web forum I've regularly used. Therein lies the problem: whenever you add nifty new features to a tool like a forum, there's usually going to be a directly a proportional increase in the difficulty associated with mastering the tool; undocumented features that nobody uses because nobody understands them just add bloat.
Since I love the power of this forum, I think that a certain level of bewilderment on the part of a newbies has, unfortunately, got to be tolerated. In fact, I would welcome even MORE confusion in return for some advanced customization options; maybe offered as an incentive to join Narutofan, or something. (I know, not very likely, but I can dream.)
There are certainly tweaks that can be made, but it seems to me that the best way of indoctrinating the newjacks is to rapidly provide them with a vision of how experienced users surf the board. Perhaps a thread called something like "How do you like YOUR Narutofan?" which is automatically added to a new user's subscribed posts for a certain length of time. That would have helped me out a bit; for instance, I never would have guessed when I was first poking around these parts that I'd end up using the Control Panel so much.

Well, when I first came around (my username before this) in late 2004, it wasn't that confusing. Then when I forgot about the forum, my username and old password, made a new one, it still wasn't that confusing.
When you think about it, Naruto Forum is just BIG, it's not too confusing, just large in proportion and member count. That tends to be a bit overwhelming at times, but for the most part I'd say it's convenient the way it is.
at the frits clance it was confunseing but i needed only 2mins then i got it all :D

I also got used to this forum fairly quickly. The only real confusing part was the Konoha Mall, which still didn't take me too long to figure out once I went inside of it. Overall, though, I think that this forum would be fairly easy to get used to, although a sticky telling what sub-boards are in parts of the forum like the Konoha Mall still wouldn't be such a bad idea. - Ice
I'm fairly new to the forum in general but find it easy enough to navigate. I find the number of subforums a bit ridiculous...but it's laid out in a professional manner and the administrators here have done good. I've admined two forums in the past and admit the biggest flaw was spreading everything out across too many places, but this place has a nice balance.
Kudos to whoever

Initially it's overwhelmingly big but you get used to it fast. I still haven't found the music forum though :P
The layout's pretty good. I didn't get lost on my first day or anything. It took me a while to understand the reputation and why people had red and green and so on though.

The people have spoken: the forum should be made not less, but MORE confusing, and the newbies shall drown in a sea of specialized features appetizing only to the conniseur.
Can't imagine that not coming off clunky, though. Troth, somebody should write a Firefox extension.

If anyone is still interested in this thread, I was just thinking that the bookstore might get more traffic if it was slightly more visible. It's way in the back of the mall, and no one visits. It needs better marketing or a change of venue, or it may go the way of Babu Bhatt's restaurant.
If you're willing to just let that happen then "you are a bad man. A very, very bad man." [/Babu]
I've even witnessed someone taking special precautions in their thread title to avoid getting their thread moved to the fanfic section or the bookstore, because it would have just died there.

Nah, I got used to it really quickly. Sure, it wasn´t as clear as NK (which I used to go to a lot) at first, but not that confusing. I think it´s great the way it is.

It was realy clean and strait froward, thus it attracted my continuted attention....
I'm new to forums, but I got used to the layout fairly quickly. I can't think of any major improvements that need to be made.
