Looks good, about time SNK updated the sprites.

Gameplay wise, I wonder what will it offer aside those colliding hits, I'm not sure if it'll be much different from KOFXI. Sure the eyecandy is the news here but with the roster reduced and nothing really new gameplay wise I'd think it twice before getting it, specially if it's aimed to next-gen platforms (most provabely) due expensiveness.

That said I'd love to try it, specially if it does have an online mode

It was later revealed at AOU 2008 that KOF XII will use newly-drawn 2D sprites on detailed 2D backgrounds. Producer Masaaki Kukino informed Kotaku that the game is one hundred percent hand drawn, there being zero cel shading in the game

Even though she was in that promotion poster, SNK confirmed that she won't be in the game. This is the full roster as of now. And I really don't see SNK adding characters just for Console releases unless they've been holding out on us (ie they've been working on their sprites from the start). I don't believe they're going to make all those animations for new characters that might be added to the console versions. This isn't 3d when you can just add a new character when you feel like it.

I'm not a fan of Athena and I'm a big Mai player, but I have to give her the respect she deserves for being an snk character for like 21 years. She's older than most people on these forums.

I really like the art direction they are going with the game. 100% hand drawn. It's sad other games do not do this.

K's technically not a clone so I wasn't talking about him. He was born of natural means, he was just infused with Kyo's ability to wield flames through dna or whatever means they decided upon. Regardless (story wise), he was born of natural means.

I was talking about Kusanagi and any other direct artificially created clones (in this series or any other with a few exceptions). Not genetically altered people...story wise that is.

The King Of Fighters XII Gets New Fighters, Smoother Graphics For Consoles

When The King of Fighters XII comes to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 this July, it will come with some swell, console-exclusive bonuses, including a new graphics mode and an expanded roster.

New shots of the game in action were released today, showing off an optional anti-aliasing graphical style, one that makes SNK Playmore fighting royalty a little less pixelated. These shots represent our first look at that mode, according to Joystiq. Never was a fan myself. Specifically, of anti-aliasing on 2D visuals.

In other The King of Fighters XII developments, producer Masaako Kukino reveals in the newest issue of Game Informer that when the 2D fighter comes home, it will do so with a roster beyond the 20 confirmed for the arcade release. Any requests?

I'm gonna head on over there next week to play some SF4 and check out KoF12. Anything I should know before I play? Never played a KoF seriously before so I'm just gonna treat it like a SF game at first.

The main problem I had to overcome when I started was: learn to small jump and press offense. A lot of basics are the same, but there's a lot more offense involved in KOF than there is SF.

I suggest checking out DandyDLC's tutorials if you haven't already! They teach a lot of stuff to know.

(edit: if you face a clark player, never, ever underestimate his throw range and priority :()

Okay I was suppose to play a few games of KoFXII when I was at Arcade Infinity today but I ended up playing only 2 games because I was mainly there to play some SF4 and the competetion was good over at SF4 so I had to devote a lot of time to practicing.

This game is absolutely stunning at first glance. The background, character animations, and moves were very well detailed. I've tinkered with previous KoF games and this one has a completely different feel to it. The game is extremely slowed down from the previous installments and comboing and whatnot seems pretty easy. Well I don't really know any fancy combos so yea.

I played Leona/Andy, Terry, and Robert switching between Andy and Leona for each game. A lot of the moves feel very sluggish and not as lightning fast as the other KoFs. Jumps felt a bit floaty; kinda like the jumps in SFIII:3rd Strike. The new critical system or whatever is pretty fun. I thought you would have access to it all the time when the meter is full but the meter will slowly deplete once you reach max. Upon reaching max it'll flash and your C attack will have this little flame to it. If you land it you can go into a custom combo mode, kinda cool. It's funny when people get the full meter because they keep trying to land the powered up C attack to mess around with their custom combo.

Well I don't know shit about KoF and I almost got OCVed each and every time so yea, hahaha. My opponent however seems like he knows what he's doing so I didn't even stand a chance. I'll probably try to run some more games of it next time I go back to AI for some SF4.

Yeah, in a recent interview I watched. They stated that it takes about 17 months to finish a single character.... O_O
Maybe that's the reason they don't have enough time to put anymore characters in, they're rushing to get the console release out by July.

And KOFXII is main reminder to me why I like Capcom's and Namco's fighters better than SNK fighters. They are good no doubt, but there is something about each one of them that pisses me off for some reason. KOFXII looks awesome, and plays awesome (I played at arcade) but not having my favorite characters such as Mai Shiranui, Yuri, Blue Mary, King, and Kasumi Todoh is REALLY pissing me off. Raiden? Elizabeth? MATURE!? WHAT THE FUCK!? Them three out of all people.....THEM!? Why the fuck are they in it before Yuri or Mai or Blue Mary or Kula or K'. Seriously, SNK tried to bullshit and say they only picking characters relative to their importance, but why K' isnt in it? He was the main fucking character of the NESTS Saga! And Raiden......RAIDEN of ALL people got it. And why is Mature in the fucking game, aint she supposed to be fucking dead!? Nobody didn't want her in. Who asked them to put that bitch in?

I'm going to still buy KOFXII anyways to support the fighting game industry, cause I love fighting games, but it'll barely be played because they dont have the characters I want, so I'm going to play the more popular SF4 as well as BlazBlue and Tekken 6 (when it comes out).

I guess the leaked artwork of both Mai and K' gave it away that they'd be in the game, but there have been no words whatsoever from SNK that they are even planned for the game.

They probably are, as ex-game journalist Shane Bettenhausen who know works for Ignition Entertainment (One of the publishers) compared Mai to Chun-Li, and her MIA status in certain releases of Street Fighter III.

It'll suck ass if they are in the game and you have to pay money to download unlock keys, like a lot of "DLC".

The home version will have K' and Mai in it but I agree even Griffon would be better than Raiden, Kula should have been in and they could have saved Elizabeth for the storyline game. It's a dream match so Mature can be here. But kudos for supporting fighting games.

Yeah I understand the time constraints part, but I still don't understand why they wouldn't have a storyline when they have a lot to explain with the characters currently in this game (e.g. Mature returns wearing an eye patch, why Kyo suddenly decided to use his 94' moveset, and why Raiden entered the tournament).

Damn.. It's nice that they've finally decided to do a graphics overhaul on the game but I still feel something is missing with the shortened roster. I think it's just that I'm going to miss K', Kula and Mai but on the upside, they've brought back Andy. Can't complain much since they did bring back my favorite American shinobi.

I like how there are many options when playing online but in general for the net code, it's not that great, worse than SF4, IMO and definitely not at the level of Blazblue(best netcode for a fighter, YET).

But like many others, I also don't think this game is worth $60. But I only got it to play with my friends. Single player sucks. Some of the achievements are insane aswell, like beat arcade mode in less than 3 mins? Really now?

game feels odd, somewhere between Garou and MIRA, but not really great. Feels too SF-ish imo.

need more time to get used to it, its fun to play with friends but I'm not sure how much we'll play it down the line before we end up playing 02UM and XI again.

Wow, i never seen a KOF game with such a small rooster. I'm usually impressed by it's size but this time it's lacking alot...

The gameplay doesn't even seem to fix that too judging from peoples comments...

Well KoF 94 only had a slightly larger roster (only 25 characters if you count Rugal), and this game is starting from scratch with the sprites like 94 did. Not to mention how much they made us know how difficult it was to make each sprite. As for no K'...it's kinda funny that the soundtrack I got for the game has his picture on the cover.

I just got the game so I'm getting the hang of it now. Joe seems to play just fine, but I'm having trouble getting used to Leona and Duo Lon.

Oh and the glitch is somehow hypnotizing to watch in the first selectable stage when you watch yourself in the background.

No teams. Just individual characters. While some characters made it back in their full team form (Ikari warriors team, psycho soldier team "Japan team", Fatal Fury (Italy?) team, whatever Ash's team was called), they made sure that people knew that there were no set teams by separating their selection boxes.

Oh and anyone notice how odd Andy's eyes look? :huh
