Stop baiting me around, Cirus. I'm not going to listen to you if you continue to whine without making a serious effort to suggest another policy, and this decision has nothing to do with you so stop pretending it does.

This is filled under suggested improvements: Get better moderation in this section because people are spam posting all over and no mods are doing anything about it.

Yes they are valid spam posts by any comparison.

Here is a thread that has a buch of fucking spam in it and has been around for hours and nothing has been done. http://forums.narutofan.com/showthread.php?t=464258

Thank you for your suggestion Cirus, and for the constructive manner that you continue to articulate your view points in this section.

Yes, the mods are devoted to maintaining quality posting in the H&L and to make sure it continues to grow into being a fun and safe environment.

We apologize if the spam is getting in the way of your enjoyment but would politely ask you to report it and ignore it. Because yes, getting rid of spam is high priority, but I assure you that it is not going to end the forum for it to exist for a few hours. Don't worry we will not allow people to gain post count for worthless posts, and as long as members ignore the spammers there's really no reason for a thread to be derailed.

We thank you for your cooperation and your patience :]

There are always effective alternative that trump posting in a thread that hasn't made it past the first page :]. It's understandable that there isn't a keen eye on this section since it's not all that active.

They all get notices about it when it is reported. Not just the mods for this section of the forum. So it shouldn't matter worth a crap for anything about PM'ing a mod or super mod because they all know as soon as it is reported.

Instead of having a bunch of sticky threads I think it would be nice to just have the second post of this thread link to the "hot topics," or threads that continue to pop up.

If you guys see another thread that should be made into a "general discussion thread" like the skin care thread for example, just post your suggestion here!

I am thinking we might have a general "weight loss discussion" thread, what do you guys think?

Psallo a Cappella
01-15-2009, 03:09 PM
^I agree with that.

However, would it be a "weight" discussion in general [which would include gaining weight, losing weight, healthy weight, obese, underweight, et cetera], or just a "Weight Loss" thread?

Iria
01-15-2009, 03:14 PM
Ah yeah good point. Making it more general would probably be better.

If more people are interested in something like this we can try it out.

And please feel free to keep the other suggestions and critiques coming :]

Yeh I think we should allow a few "similar" style threads to be made otherwise the activity of the section will dwindle, we want to start good discussions and this is made difficult when many subjects go under one thread.

Making a "general" weight discussion is a bad idea personally speaking. It will get confusing when some people are talking about weight loss and some are talking about weight gain etc. We don't need to limit it that much, only when the subject in hand is very similar or can go under a general discussion thread, NOT when the are talking about completely opposite things under the same main topic.

The only things that really need to be limited are the dating advice threads, because we seem to be getting alot of similar threads, all of which are pretty short questions that could be answered by just a number of people to get a decent response, they don't always need a whole thread. So putting the General dating advice thread (http://forums.narutofan.com/showthread.php?t=462712) in the OP will cut down on that, hopefully people will read this thread to see it...

Another idea would be a quick question thread, for non medical advice. Though that could just be asked in the convo thread, but it might be missed there. Though that might again be limiting the section too much, obviously we don't want to kill the activity as it's becoming a nice little active section at the moment.

I'll add more when I think of them.

Oh and what's the deal with the convvo thread? Does the 2000th post get to make the new thread and then the other is trashed? Or haven' you thought about that yet...?

Koi
01-15-2009, 04:57 PM
I think a general 'weight loss discussion' thread could work, for diets and whatnot. Although a 'fitness' thread would be needed for those who just want to work out and stuff, you know?

The problem would be that the two do kinda overlap, but I think lumping them together into one would make the thing too messy. Maybe it's just me, though.

I agree. The distinctions will help people easier find what they are looking for, as well.

Hm, should there be two, then? There could be a "Weight" discussion and then a more medical discussion that could relate to weight, but it might have more to do with obesity, eating disorders, and diseases or genes that attribute to weight? Though that's still separate yet together . . . but having all those weight topics under one heading wouldn't do it justice, I suppose.

There was a thread on glasses and then a thread on eyesight. Same principle: Apart and together. Glasses often have to do with eyesight and and any other discussion about the eyes; if they are used for fashion, there isn't much discussion on that aspect of it as there is the eyesight problems.

Another idea would be a quick question thread, for non medical advice. Though that could just be asked in the convo thread, but it might be missed there. Though that might again be limiting the section too much, obviously we don't want to kill the activity as it's becoming a nice little active section at the moment.

If it weren't medical, then what would it entail? An advice thread, maybe, or . . . ?

Yeh, I think that weight is quite a diverse topic and deserves to have many things under it. Weight is also a significent section in health, so it would be silly to just have one topic to discuss it.

Well anything that isn't medical that still fits in "health & lifestyle" :awesome So like fashion or something... though now I think about it there isn't really many things that need quick advice, so it's not really a worthwhile idea... I was just thinking on the spot :LOS

Does talking about jobs and work and all that jazz qualify as H&L-worthy content, or is that more of a Plaza/CB thing?

Ramona Flowers

So suggestions on the table are:

1) General Dating Advice Thread (will merge other threads)
2) Weight LOSS discussion thread
3) Fitness (separate or relate to #2)
3) Weight gain thread (already exists, will merge all subsequent threads)
4) Stress (already exists, will merge all subsequent threads)

I guess we should start from here and see what happens, ne?

Hey Renee. I was thinking about the possibility of a competition in this section?

What I've thought of at the moment is similar to what the Library has, a "Thread of the Month" competition. The winner gets sparkles for 1 month (or until the next winner is decided).

Basically towards the end of the month everyone in the section votes to see which they think is the best thread (points for readability, content, popularity and how informative they are). Obviously there are going to be risks of cheating, I just hope that people here are mature enough not to. The winner then gets their thread stickied and gets a prize, or something along those lines.

I'm hoping that something like this will increase the amount of good quality threads being made and will help make the section better.

Any thoughts?

Koi
01-21-2009, 02:56 PM
I'm not quite sure how that would work, honestly, since a lot of the threads here have a main topic of interest followed by related discussion and member contribution. An OP may pose a topic, but the thread's content may be reliant on a handful of contributors. I'm down with sticky-ing a thread for a month but I'm not sure if the sparkles thing for the OP is fair.

I agree with this post right here.

This place (as long as the mods do there job and keep the spam out) has discussion threads that people try to contribute to. In other areas of the forum where practically all the posts are spam something like that would work because it shows that someone can actually think in that area. Practically like how if you get enough monkeys in front of a typewriter they will eventually bang out the works of Shakespear. Here though no thing like that exists and is needed.

There are a variety of exercise threads in this section. If you scan through the first couple pages of this forum I am sure you can find a couple that may interest you and be able to help.

Where is the random/short question thread of this section?
It all depends on the questions that you have to ask. In this section there are threads dedicated to basically every topic you can think of that deals with health and lifestyle. Though if you have a specific questions that deals in one particular area you can just go to one of the threads that is on that subject and ask the question. People will be more then glad to help you out and give you some good advice.
