Alright, so Opeth just ended their tour this year with 2 gigs in stockholm with Cynic yesterday and the day before.
I was at both of them, wich was incredibly awesome but also incredible tiresome since I had to work the day after both times :facepalm.
But it was worth it of course (except for extreme neckache and sour limbs), unfortunantely I cant recall cynics setlist, but they were equally awesome, little sad that the crowd didnt understand their awesomeness and "legendary" status.
So was anyone here on the forums at their previous gigs, how was the setlist, and do post pictures!
17th december
Heir apparent
The grand conjuration
Godheads lament (Best preformance of the evening)
The lotus eater
Hope leaves
Deliverance
Demon of the fall
Encore: The drapery falls
18th December
Heir apparent
Baying of the hounds
Serenity Painted Death (Best of both setlists)
The lotus eater
To rid the disease
Wreath
The night and the silent water (wreath and this one? unexpected as hell)
Encore: Bleak

16 year damnation opethians understanding the legacy of Cynic? :awesome
And geez, that's some good playlist, but more from the Watershred would've been better I think, shame that I missed such good shows with such good bands.

I went and saw Opeth in New Orleans a couple months ago. Amazing show at the House of Blues, but I can't remember the setlist for shit ha

They had Lotus Eater; that's all that matters.

Honestly, that is still one of my least favourite songs by them. :(
When I saw them last which was on the Ghost Reveries tour they played
Baying of the Hounds
Grand Conjuration
White Cluster
Amen Corner
Deliverance
Drapery Falls
Leper Affinity
and a song each from Morningrise and Orchid, but I do not remember which.

I agree. Perhaps I'll become more fond of it in the future, but right now I don't like it very much :oh
Anyway, I'm happy to see Deliverance in 2 of the 3 sets posted :amuse

The fact that no one from the audience died after the epic gig obviously proves that those people were just a bunch of fags. :zaru
And seriously, people, Lotus Eater has some epicness I've not seen since Morningrise times of Opeth.

Boo urns. Morningrise can't compare to Still Life. I prefer stronger visceral aesthetic content. The Lotus Eater's heavy parts are tonally boring.....for Opeth.

Visceral aesth-wut? And I like delicate opacity of transcending melodies. I won't argue about that as indeed many Opethians will argue over their favourite album and that's natural for a band with such diversity, but about Lotus Eater... Well, I can only hope the fans around the world will realize why Opeth indeed showed signals of returning to their earlier sound, and much more.

I understand why they would go where they did. They needed to change it up and I can still enjoy what they produce. But the return to their roots is a return to too much Spock and not enough McCoy, or too much Hamlet and not enough Fortinbras. I would have rather seen a move towards a more doomy, emotive sound, rather than back the other way.
I have a thing for Romanticism, and stylistically with MAYH, Still Life and Blackwater Park they embodied that mode of aesthetic expression.
I can appreciate the Lotus Eater and their earlier work, but like most prog rock it tends to be aesthetically too close to modernism for me to want to listen to it over and over.

Yeah man, you could only imagine what awesomeness you are about to discover :wink
Specially the live shows, Mikael åkerfelt is one hell of a entertainer.
Recorded this vid from their last song of the evening, low quality vid but the sound is ok.

Okay, now I am excited about the awesomeness. I am off to hunt Youtube for more. I will keep them in mind if they tour near the crappy tiny town I live in.
Wow... that song sounds cool! Thanks for sharing!

Bleak is always epic. Nice vid, the sound was good (though like you said, video quality was bad, but that doesn't matter).

Will they end up in New England at all? Specifically the Boston area? It's a good hour away from me and my kin, but it's the only place near enough to host big name bands.
;_;_;_;_;_;_;
*hugs*
they are headlining the dubai ock festival, along with GWAR, Motorhead Chimaira, and Arch Enemy
the festival will be held in dubai mall.
:awesome
