The Bench press is not an olympic event. The only two weight lifting events are the snatch and the clean and jerk.
As you can clearly see Gaou says Rod is both an olympic gold medal and bench press record holder.

This would mean Rod has more lower body power than Kurita and more upper body than Gaou. If he can do either clean and jerk or the snatch as olympic gold, than damn.
So they decided to put a guy that is not just an olympic gold, but also bench press record holder against a middle school child like Chuubou.
How is Japan going to beat Rod?
