View Full Version : Great Lake Swimmers
Folk rock/roots from good ol' Canada. For fans of the Red House Painters, Sun Kil Moon, Bonnie "Prince" Billy, Nick Drake, Iron & Wine etc.
One of the finest folk acts I've ever heard i nquite sometimes. A one man project headed by Dekker (who plays the guitar and various other instruments through the record). However, it's all drowned down in an atmposheric arural soundscape, as if you were marching in a hallway. His music is so riviting, with such melancholymanner. But the record and the band doesnt make "sad" music per sa. Rather, they make music that is very full of life and warmth and strength.
Suprb, emotional lyrics, inspiring and cause reflection upon one's past
Vocally; it's enchanting. Every tried humming a song in a large empty hall? That's the vocal and recording for you. VERY intimate. It gives them such a unique, powerful, yet vulnurable feel.
I have both their Self Titled debut and their laest record Bodies and Minds. Masterfully crafited gems

i remembet now where i lost Moving Pictures silent films, i slept one night on the beach in portugal with some friends and there it happened :amuse
ahhh.....listening to the first album brings back some memoris, more pple should listen to their records, they are really good.... :D
Bumpy bumpy.
I was planing to up this for Dave only, but I though many might have missed out on this. And since there is a solid folk following in the dept these days, this would be a treat :amuse.

I absolutely LOVE Great Lake Swimmers - Great Lake Swimmers.
These tracks stand out, in my mind:
Moving Pictures Silent Films
Moving, Shaking
Merge, A Vessel, A Harbor
The Animals of the World
The slight echo effect that is a constant on this album works SO well for me. I really love every song, but those are my favorites. Sun Kil Moon meets Iron and Wine is a pretty apt description, Moe.
Good looking out. :love

i've listened to half of Bodies and Minds and so far so good. this album is kinda depressing, at least with how the instruments are being played. i've not had a chance to really pay close attention to the words.
The atmosphere surronding it is rather dreary. Polpo Palmo did a fantastic job assisting in it's production and giving it such an ambient feel. It will sink in quick though. wait for it :amuse
