Are episodes 150-220 important?

Hello, I used to be a big naruto fan, watching from eps 100-150 each week, but when the 'year of filler' kicked in I decided to take a break. I'm really wanting to start watching again but I don't have a lot of time and can't get motivated to watch so many filler episodes.. although I am normally a completist.

So I was wondering is it ok to skip straight to Shippuuden ep.1 or are there important story/character elements that are introduced in the filler before hand?

"Important"? No. You can skip it without missing ANYTHING of importance, since it's, well, filler after all.
