Bartending and Mixology Thread
---
I've been studying Bartending on my spare time and it's quite a lot of fun. Personally, it's great to make drinks for others and have them praise you for it. Now I'm not a bartender myself, as I'm 19 years old and the bartending age in California is 21, but I'm very determined to obtain a near professional level of skill. With this said, Bartending is a skill that comes in handy in everyone's lives, alcohol or not. Knowing how to make a simple, good tasting drink here and there would definitely not hurt. Who knows, you might find a drink that you'll love yourself.
Basically I'll probably just post a recipe or more a day and update the OP post. If there is a specific ingredient in that recipe, I'll introduce it as well.
If you have any questions regarding Spirits, Beer, Wine, Juices, Shakes, and basically anything to do with consumable liquids, please feel free to ask. If you also have any comments, drink names or recipes you'd like to share, I encourage you to do so.
Bartending is not solely about alcohol. It is about a good, refreshing drink for the mind(how you want to interpret this is up to you =), alcohol or not.
---
Some notes you should read.
- Glass size is extremely important. I will scan pages of the different sizes of glasses and their names. A drink is as good as the glass it is in(If it's in plastic, it'll taste like plastic). Ever think about how coke in a glass bottle tastes compared to coke in a can? Although at parties, you'd probably have to do with plastic cups anyways.
- Ice is EXTREMELY important! I cannot stress this enough. Most drinks call for ice, so use it! A drink goes down smoother and lighter when it is cold. Also, no crushed ice.
- Fill ice up to 75% of the glass.
- "On the Rocks" means with ice. "Straight up" means without ice.
- Ice is always added first unless stated otherwise.
- Ingredients are added in the order they appear, top to bottom. With that said, Alcohols are usually the first ingredients to be added.
- Many drinks you have to shake, but I'll try to stay away from ones that REALLY require it. Many times you can just get away with a lot of stirring(in a non-bartending sense).
- 1½oz is usually a full shot glass. 1oz is 2/3rds a shot glass, and ½oz is 1/3rd a shot glass.
- Try not to pour a drink so that the liquid is near/touching the rim. Despite maybe looking fancy, this is actually inconvenient and un-professional.
- Be your own Bartender! Don't be afraid to experiment!

Here's a drink that is popular due to it's simple, great tasting flavor. Basically a Screwdriver with a magical addition.
Tequila Sunrise
(do not shake, on the rocks, highball glass)
http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh113/subarashee/tequila-sunrise-0907-lgthrough.png
1 ½ oz Tequila
4 oz Orange Juice (or to near fill of glass)
½ oz Grenadine
- Feel free to stir afterwards.
- There are 2 ways you can make this drink.
1) Add grenadine first, ice, then tequila and orange juice
2) Add ice, tequila, orange juice, then slowly pour the grenadine on top of the drink, resulting in pretty swirls of red going through your drink
- You can substitute the Tequila for Vodka(Vodka Sunrise) or Rum(Carribbean Sunrise)
- As you can see, it's basically a Screwdriver with only one extra ingredient. Very simple to make, and it will make you never settle for a Screwdriver again.
Chemistry's note: This is the drink that actually got me into bartending. Not knowing any drinks off the top of my head at the time, I asked the bartender for a Screwdriver. He gave me a smile and said he'd add a little touch to it. I was amazed to what a simple addition of grenadine could do to a drink. If you're looking for something simple to start off your night, the Tequila Sunrise is definitely for you.
------
Some of you may not be familiar with...
Grenadine
http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh113/subarashee/grenadine.png
- Grenadine is a red colored, non-alcoholic syrup, mainly used in small amounts to add a "cherry, yet sweet" flavor to a drink.
- If you drink alcohol quite often, I recommend you buy a bottle. It really does make some drinks just that much better, eg: a Screwdriver(vodka and orange juice) compared to a Vodka Sunrise.
- You can add 1½oz of grenadine to Sprite/7-up for a Shirley Temple and also to Coke for a Roy Rogers/Cherry Coke.
- Mix it with your favorite juice mixes or just try mixing it with anything. Don't be afraid to experiment.
- A bottle of this usually runs you $3-$7, depending on how big of a bottle you buy.

Interesting. So what'd you think about the anime "Bartender"?
This is a pretty neat thread, I'm liking the idea. I don't drink very often though. :\ But these will still be good to know. :D

This is easily the best thread in this new sub-forum.
Hey Chemistry, I have two requests:
A proper Long Island Iced Tea, and even though I don't like Bond that much, with Quantum out - how about an homage to his drink of choice?

Interesting. So what'd you think about the anime "Bartender"?
I thought it was amazing. As an anime, the structure and pace of the episodes and how the stories are told were very strong and touching. On the other hand, the things they do movement wise, ingredients, and knowledge of bartending(minus some of the history...) is legit. None of the things they did "bartending" related were really wrong. When directors go all the way to make things look real(such as holding or loading a gun correctly), I respect that.

Ah, thank you. But I'm afraid I'm not exactly certain of Bond's preferred drink. If I recall correctly, it is a Shaken Vodka Martini?
In the mean time, I'll do a Long Island...

One of the most popular drinks in the world. Resembling the taste of Iced Tea, this drink goes down very smooth, yet very strong.
Long Island Iced Tea
(Shake, On the Rocks, Highball Glass)
http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh113/subarashee/LIIT.png
1oz Vodka
1oz Gin
1oz Rum
1oz Tequila
1oz Triple Sec
1½oz Sour Mix
Splash* of Coca-Cola
*A splash is roughly a bit less than ½oz. This is almost never measured, so a quick tip over from a can of coke should do.
- If you are shaking this, do not shake with soda. Add the soda afterwards.
- There are many small variations to this drink. To name a few...
1) Lemon Juice substituted for Sour Mix
2) Lime Juice substituted for Sour Mix
3) No Sour Mix, add more Coca-Cola
4) Iced Tea substituted for Cola
5) Add Simple Syrup
- You can lower each part of alcohol to ½oz each instead of 1oz if you feel the drink is too strong.
- It should be noted that you should use light or clear spirits. Do not use dark rum or gold tequila. However, if you're just doing it at a party or at home, it shouldn't matter too much.
- The coke is actually only used for the coloring of the drink. However, there is nothing wrong with adding more coke according to your taste.
Chemistry's note: This was the first mixed drink in my life. Absolutely amazing. I could barely taste any alcohol. After a few beers and two of these, I was unhealthily messed up and proceeded to pass out. These go down so smooth that it's scary, so please be careful and monitor how much you drink! If you add 1oz of each alcohol, it's basically 5 shots put together. That's quite a bit of alcohol for one drink =)
------
Some of you may not be familiar with...
Triple Sec
http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh113/subarashee/Triplesec.png
- Triple Sec is an orange flavored liqueur, usually consisting of 30%(60 proof) alcohol.
- This is probably the most common liqueur, as it is very flavorful and used in many mixed drinks.
- Try this for shots next time. The lower alcohol content makes this more of an easier shot and orange flavor is quite tasty.
- There are other various orange flavor liqueurs such as Blue Curacao, Cointreau, and Grand Mariner, but vary in color, alcohol volume, and overall quality.
- You can usually get this for around $5-$10 a bottle.
Sour Mix
http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh113/subarashee/Finestsourmix.pnghttp://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh113/subarashee/Bobssourmix.png
- As the name suggests, it is a mixer consisting of Lemon juice, Lime juice, and simple syrup.
- Used for many recipes, notably the simple "Amaretto Sour." Mandatory if you are interested in mixed drinks.
- It is simple enough that you can make your own. However, buying a bottle at the grocery store is more convenient.
- A bottle of Sour Mix usually costs around $4-$7 dollars.

Anything with soda should not be shaken. I do feel more comfortable stirring it a little bit though. Don't stir too much though, as the soda should does a lot of mixing within the drink already.
A screwdriver should only be stirred. Shaking a screwdriver is pretty useless.
As important measurements are, the volume variation isn't too strict for these drinks. But generally, you want the alcohol to be 1/5th of the volume of these drinks. 3oz or two shots of alcohol per can of soda(A can of Soda is 12oz). Cut this in half, and it's 1½oz or one shot of alcohol per 6oz of soda or orange juice. Highball glasses and Red/Party cups generally hold 10-12oz.
Also, don't forget to fill your cup up with ice! Ice in a drink is like tires on a car! I can't stress how important ice is!

Nice thread Chem. Hey, do you know how much bartenders usually make?
It should be noted that a large sum of what bartenders make come from tips. Thus, the amount you make will vary depending on when and where you work as well as how good of a bartender you are. Bare minimum, bartenders earn about $100-$200 a day from tips. This does not include the pay they get from where they work(which is actually pretty low, probably $10-15/hour for a typical joint).
Personally, I've talked to a few nightclub bartenders that claim they regularly make $1000 a week.

Yea, my knowledge isn't exactly advance and neither are the things I've shown, but I'm just trying to introduce people to the world of mixed drinks. I'm just trying to make it simple enough so that this thread could generally apply to everyone, via. people who actually go to bars and people who just party(although I think I'm leaning more toward the latter). Thank you for your support though, it's greatly appreciated! Hopefully I can teach you something eventually xD

This is preference-based. Rum gives me a headache, and whiskey makes me angry. So I stick to vodka. Everyone has different experiences though.

Smirnoff Vodka or Smirnoff Ice?
If it's Vodka, you can basically make anything xD
If it's Smirnoff Ice, I really haven't heard of anything you can do with it. It's already flavored and made to drink straight off the cap. In a sense, you could call it a mixed drink in a bottle(In another sense, mixed drinks shouldn't be compared to such things).
Anyways, I've only heard about adding some Blue Curacao to it. But don't be afraid to experiment!

This is a very vague question, so I'll split it into two parts.
There is no BEST type of alcohol to be used for mixed drinks, but there is a spirit that can be mixed well with almost everything. This spirit is Vodka. It's very common for that reason.
Best flavor and smoothness is solely preference. BUT, the more expensive you go, the smoother and more flavorful alcohols and liqueurs will get.
I'll get to adding drinks in a bit. It's actually pretty time consuming...

- Some variations...
+ Vodka can be substituted with Citrus Vodka
+ Triple Sec can be substituted with Blue Curacao and Cointreau.
+ Lime Juice can be substituted with Sour Mix
+ Cranberry Juice can be substituted with White Cranberry Juice
- For those who don't have a shaker, just pour the contents over ice and stir. Since you are using ice, you might want to finish up your drink faster since the ice will continuously water down your drink.
Chemistry's Note: This drink is very flavorful and it's not too strong either. Thus, it makes a perfect drink for a lady. If you're a guy though, don't be afraid to order it, as it's really good!

A classic drink in the world of cocktails. A combination of uncommon ingredients, it makes for a fantastic drink.
Bloody Mary
(do not shake, on the rocks, highball glass)
http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh113/subarashee/BloodyMary-1.png
1½oz Vodka
3oz Tomato Juice (or to ¾ fill)
½oz Lemon Juice
dash* Worcestershire sauce
dash Tabasco sauce
dash Salt & Peper
*A dash is less than ½oz. This is almost never measured. Basically, a quick tip over of the bottle should do.
- Basically everything can be added to this drink according to your likes, for example...
+ Substitute Gin for the Vodka
+ Substitute Sour Mix for Lemon Juice
+ Add Barbecue sauce
+ Add Horseradish
- It is common to garnish this drink with celery
- You can shake this drink if you wish. But, assuming many of you do not have a shaker, do not worry.
- Pre-made Bloody Mary mixers are sold in various places, making your life very easy. All you have to do is add your Alcohol of choice along with the mixer, and bam! Some bars even use pre-made Bloody Mary mixers.

Some of you may not be familiar with...
Worcestershire Sauce
http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh113/subarashee/worcestershiresauce.png
- This is a sauce you may have seen used in conjunction with meat or salad.
- It is a mix of many ingredients, including soy sauce, lime, onions, and garlic.
- In the world of cocktails, this is basically only used for Bloody Marys. You're probably better off buying a separate Bloody Mary mixer unless you have other uses for this.

Ah, thank you. But I'm afraid I'm not exactly certain of Bond's preferred drink. If I recall correctly, it is a Shaken Vodka Martini?
I believe he's looking for the Vesper, originally:
4 1/2 oz. Gordon's gin
1 1/2 oz. vodka
3/4 oz. Kina Lillet (apertif)
Shake with ice, strain into a martini glass, and garnish with lemon peel.
But since the original creation of the drink, most of the ingredients have been reformulated, so to recreate it today, the recipe would be:
4 1/2 oz. Tanqueray gin (although any 90-94 proof gin will work)
1 1/2 oz. 100-proof vodka (recommended: Stolichnaya)
3/4 oz. Lillet Blanc
Dash of quinine powder (bitters can be substituted in a pinch)
Again, shake with ice, strain into a martini glass, and garnish with lemon peel.
Sadly, I did that entirely from memory. I've done my research on the cocktail.

- Make the flame from the lighter touch the top of the liquid in the shot glass. Once you see it catch on fire, pull away and put out your light.
5) Let shot stand for 5-10 seconds max.
- Prolonged flame on a shot glass may crack the glass.
- Glass may be hot, but please do your best to keep hold of it. You obviously don't want to drop this...
6) Blow out the flame.
- Don't forget this.
7) Drop the shot glass into the cup of beer.
8) ???
9) Chug!
- You must chug this drink after preparing or it will lose it's taste if it's not hot/warm.
- Hold the shot glass in the cup with your lips or finger.
- Should taste like Dr. Pepper, as the name suggests.
- If you are not familiar with "Amaretto", "Bacardi 151", or "Everclear", click here. (http://forums.narutofan.com/showpost.php?p=20313142&postcount=44)
- As dangerous as I might make this seem, you shouldn't be intimidated or scared to make this drink. Just be smart about it and you'll be fine. And please try not to make this drink while you're drunk...
Chemistry's Note: From my experience, this is the ultimate party drink. Fire, chugging, and a great taste. Everyone is instantly loves you after you make this for people. Since you're chugging it, it's a pretty large amount of alcohol going into your system at once, so try not to get too fucked up.

Nice, good shit. I think I'll throw this in the recipe list.
So I'm often too lazy to measure out drinks...
Does it work to just throw in random things and sort of wing it?
There's nothing wrong with that. You're your own bartender, make shit happen =)
And damn it takes a long time just to write about a couple of drinks. Luckily they don't take anywhere near this long to make...

So I did something called "purple rain" at this night club, but it was different.... they lit it on fire, I took a shot, inhaled the fumes, and like...snorted the excess drink. Or something. It was really weird >.>;
There are many different recipes around the world. Drinks might share the same name, yet may be entirely different. Seeing how you're in Europe, I would imagine some things are done differently compared to the US.
But snorting excess liquid doesn't seem too healthy xD

Some of you may not be familiar with...
Amaretto
http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh113/subarashee/Amaretto.png
- An almond flavored liqueur, containing 30%(60 proof) alcohol.
- A commonly used liqueur for mixed drinks. This should definitely be in your mini bar.
- Try bringing this to a party rather than that boring ol' vodka. jk, I still love you vodka
- A bottle of this costs around $5-$30. The higher you go, the more quality stuff you get.
Bacardi 151
http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh113/subarashee/151.png
- A Rum popular due to it's high proof rating. As the name suggests, it is 151 proof(75% alcohol). Also known as Overproof rum.
- For comparison, Vodka, Rum, Gin, and Tequila are usually 80 proof(40% alcohol). Bacardi 151 is nearly has twice the amount of alcohol.
- Used to add a little extra kick in drinks.
- Also commonly used for flaming drinks due to it's flammability. See Flaming Dr. Pepper. (http://forums.narutofan.com/showpost.php?p=20312630&postcount=39)
- DO NOT take this straight. Since the alcohol content is so high, there are notably increased health risks such as alcohol poisoning and blacking out. Please drink responsibly.
- 750ml bottle of this nets you for around $20.
Everclear
http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh113/subarashee/Everclear.png
- Pure grain alcohol with extremely high proof ratings, ranging from 151 to 190, depending on where you live.
- This is illegal in some states in the US and areas of the world.
- Basically the same purpose as Bacardi 151. Used for mixing and flaming drinks.
- DO NOT take this straight. Since the alcohol content is so high, there are notably increased health risks such as alcohol poisoning and blacking out. Please drink responsibly.
- 750ml bottle of this stuff should cost around $15.

It's $30 for a .75L bottle (a standard fifth) here, which is the same price as Grey Goose (PA liquor stores are a bit more expensive because they're state-run, so it's a monopoly). It's a potato vodka (rather than grain, which makes it smoother).
By the way, Grey Goose is actually not that incredible of a vodka. It's mostly a perception created by the ridiculously high price. Absolut is actually a better vodka in many opinions. But Boyd & Blair absolutely torches the lot of them.

Vodka infusion aka Schnapps:gar
Recipe
Use fresh and fully ripe peaches - organic if possible. You can use any variety.
Direction:
* Peel 12 medium size peaches (easy if you first dip them into boiling water for 30-60 seconds and cool them in cold water).
* Remove the stones and cut the fruits in quarters.
* Put peaches and stones in a clean glass jar with tight-fitting lid.
* Cover with clear, unflavoured vodka - 40% alcohol content (80 proof).
* Let steep for 1-2 months in a dark place at room temperature,
18-20°C (64-68°F).
* Shake lightly and taste it from time to time.
* Strain and filter your infusion into a clean glass bottle or jar with tight-fitting lid.
* Store (age) for at least 1 month in a dark place at room temperature before serving.

I've used it a couple times. Not much to say though, Vodka is Vodka.
There are fancier recipes, but not specifically for fancy Vodka(that I know of at least). With higher class alcohols, you just use it as you would use the cheaper versions, except that it would probably just go down smoother.
Unless you've been drinking for years, quality shouldn't matter to you. Don't bother bringing Grey Goose, Effin, or Patron to a party because you'll most likely taste the same thing unless you're bringing it to show you have $80 to spend on a bottle.

Well, as a general rule, it's a terrible idea to bring a high-class alcohol to a place where people are going to get drunk to the point they can't taste it. But even a fairly new drinker can taste the difference between a quality alcohol and a cheaper one easily when not drunk. Of course, once you get to a certain price level, it's usually mostly a matter of personal preference--vodka, especially, once you're paying more than about $18 a bottle, is very much the same unless you get a potato vodka (rather than your average grain-distilled vodka).
Essentially, you get what you pay for until you get to a certain price (again, about $18/bottle), after which you're really just paying for the label.
Exceptions include whiskey (especially bourbon).
Although in fairness, I'm not an exceptional expert on the subject, so if anyone else (you especially) has further thoughts on the matter...

Colorado Bulldog

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh113/subarashee/ColoradoBulldog.png
1oz Vodka
1oz Kahlua
¾ fill Milk or Cream
1oz Coca-Cola
- Stir before adding the Coca-Cola
- Cream is heavier than milk, so it will fill your stomach faster. Whole milk is 4% fat. Cream usually contains 2-4% more fat than whole milk. Both work well for this recipe, just use whatever you'd like.
- If you'd like, you can add more Coke. The drink will then taste more like a float.
Chemistry's Note: Made some of these last night. Goes down very smooth and tastes like chocolate milk. I really couldn't get enough of this drink. Personally, I love Milk, so milk + alcohol + smooth = win. If you're a fan of White Russians or Milk, I heavily recommend this drink.

Kahlua
http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh113/subarashee/kahlua.png

- One of the most popular liqueurs in the world. Used in a number of very popular drinks, such as the Black Russian, Mudslide, and B-52.
- A bottle of this will usually run you $15.
Quick Tip: For a quick and easy drink, drop a shot of this in a glass and fill with milk. A simple yet yummy drink, you've made yourself a "Sombrero"!

1 pint of water
1 or 2 limes
1 small bunch of fresh mint
¼ cup sugar
Cut limes into quarters and put (including rind) into a blender. Add sugar, water and fresh mint. Blend until smooth. Use a fine strainer and pour into a mug. Sit down, enjoy, and then possibly make another.
You can change the quantities to your taste. I would use ice to blend this with since it tastes far better than just normal water.

Sweet & Sour Mix
Orange Juice
- Sour mix gives it a little bite, while the rest will run down smooth. A very "nice" drink.
- Not too strong either, since Amaretto is the only present alcohol and it's only about 60 proof.
Planter's Punch
1 1/2oz Light Rum
Pineapple Juice to fill
Splash of Grenadine
- Basically a variation of a Tequila Sunrise, in which I also would recommend.
Blue Lagoon
1oz Malibu Rum (light or dark rum is fine too)
1oz Blue Curacao
Pineapple juice to fill
OR
Lemonade to fill
- Drink should look like a very cool blue color. With the Malibu Coconut Rum, it makes for a very tropical drink.
Be reminded to stir these drinks over Ice!
---
But, the perfect drink for your light citrus flavor along with your preference for pineapple juice would be...
Mai Tai
(Shake, On the Rocks, Hurricane Glass)
There are two versions of this drink. There is a "substitute" version which uses more easily available ingredients, and then the real version, which uses less convenient liqueurs. You'll almost always see this substitute version unless you're at a pretty fancy or authentic bar. BTW don't call it a substitute version at a bar, they won't know what you're talking about
http://www.jeremyparzen.com/img/sd_roundup/mai_tai.jpg
- Picture shows that the Grand Mariner and Dark Rum have been added last/on the top in order to achieve the dark floating color on top.
=
1/2oz Light Rum
1/2oz Dark Rum
1/2oz Triple Sec (Grand Mariner if you can)
1/2oz Amaretto
Fill with equal parts of...
Sweet and Sour mix
Pineapple Juice
=
- Rum content can be increased to 1oz each.
- Triple Sec for convenience. But if you have it, use Grand Mariner. Your drink will taste much better, guaranteed. (Grand Mariner is expensive though. $35 for 750ml)
- Lime Juice can be used instead of Sweet and Sour mix.
- They also sell Mai Tai mix bottles if you're really aiming for convenience.
Chem's Note: Another classic drink in the world of cocktails. This is just one of those drinks you will probably love, along with the rest of the world. I recommend this drink 5x for anyone, new drinker or not. The taste is just... exactly what a cocktail should be. It goes down amazingly. Fruity, Juicy, and you get a good taste of the delicious liqueurs as well.
- As for the real version if you're interested...
1 ounce Fine Jamaican Rum (15 or 8 year old)
1 ounce Martinique Rum (St. James)
1/2 ounce Orange Curacao
1/2 ounce Orgeat Syrup
Juice from one fresh lime (about 3/4 ounce)
Pitchers? Jungle Juice, as always. The ingredients to it are very interchangeable, but for reference...

Other than that, I haven't really been into making pitchers of stuff lately.
Also, check this link...

and just look on the right side. You should be able to get some good ideas.
As for "christmasy" drinks, I'll get back to you on that. I promise!
That looks damn good, and thanks for the link! I'll be sure to check that out before I go shopping for New Year.
Please do post some xmas-themed drinkage eventually too!

@Para: For now all I can think of is drinks that would contain mint stuffs? But Creme de Menthe is usually used for shooters rather than cocktails.
@Ryouji: Don't forget The Cosmopolitan (http://forums.narutofan.com/showpost.php?p=20311791&postcount=35), either!

The only recipe I can think of is Scottish Mist. Which is as the name implies: Scotch and Sierra Mist. I haven't tried it as I don't drink. Probably another name for it though.

I don't think I saw this recipe on here. I'm in love with it at the moment.
Banana Daiquiri
Serves: 4
12 ice cubes
8 measures white rum
2 measures banana liqueur
2 small bananas
2 measures lime cordial
Put the rum, banana liqueur, banana and lime cordial in a blender and blend for 15 seconds. Then add the ice and blend for another 15 seconds. Pour into a tall glass, stick a straw in there and enjoy.

Are there any good mixed drinks that come from Germany? or is everything from there just beer.

I searched "german mixed drinks" on google and I found these. They seem...well...wierd, and I dont know authentic they are, but here goes:
An Alsterwasser is almost the same thing as the Radler, but made with a pilsner.
The Berliner Weisse mit Schuss is made from Weiβbier brewed only in Berlin with a shot of flavored sugar syrup. The syrup can be green, flavored with woodruff; red, raspberry flavor; or yellow, a lemon flavor.
Altbierbowle is a mixture of Altbier, fruit syrup and fruit, such as raspberries and strawberries. It’s served in a large snifter glass, with a cocktail fork.
A Gespritzter is lager beer mixed with cola.
Colaweizen is a hefeweizen (a Southern beer made with wheat) mixed with cola.
Mix Altbier, cola and a shot of cherry liqueur and you get an Altbier Cola.

Hmmmm. Interesting. Those do seem a little different then the normal recipes that I hear on the boards. I may have to try some of those to see what they taste like.
Thanks for looking those up.

Caiboulou is an easy, cheap drink that sneaks up on you extra fast:
1 part Malibu coconut rum
1 1/2 parts 151 proof rum
About 5 parts pineapple juice
We make it in big pitchers for parties. Probably the only time I ever use 151.
Firefly is also a good drink (vodka+tea). You can get it in the 'mixed drink' section of your liqour store. I usually add a little more vodka and raspberry tea to mine. The ladies ask for it at our parties :ho

I improvised a mixed drink fairly recently, I think it was something like
1 part Raspberry Smirnoff
2 parts orange juice
0.3 parts lime concentrate
I pretty much couldn't taste the alcohol at all.
