I've thought long and hard about where this should go and decided the art section would probably be best.

Have you ever thought about the people who make anime and what their working conditions are really like? Do you think they make a lot of money? What is your impression of this job that "seems" so glamourous?

Would you believe it if in fact the people who make the drawings are paid very poorly compared to other jobs in Japan?

I wrote an article on Deviant Art some time ago and feel that the knowledge should be spread because so many people world wide love anime, but don't really know the nature of the work involved and what the artists go through to make the shows.

Sorry it's pretty long but I feel it was need to illustrate the situation fully.

So what are your thoughts after knowing this information? Does it motivate you to spread the word? Does it scare you from persuing this career path if you had been thinking of it? What is your reaction? Do you want things to change for them? Do you appreciate what you watch more? Or are you unchanged?

I'm interested to know.

Thanks for your time.

Kind of a big deal

The thing is, making anime isn't a realistic career choice for anyone who isn't Japanese. So I don't think there's many people actually considering this a career choice to begin with.

Aside from that, I think the problem wouldn't exist if the amount of artists willing to draw anime wasn't bigger than the actual demand for these people. So in a way it's only natural studios get the people willing to work for less. If they didn't, then nobody would hire them because they cost too much compared to other studio's. If not in Japan, it would be through outsourcing in surrounding countries.

That being said, this sounds like they need a union. Or at least a union that doesn't suck. I would guess a part of the problem could be that many of these artists have a sort of lowly office worker attitude and don't really stand up for themselves. I suppose I'm being stereotypical by saying it like that but I can totally imagine it.
