Gintama is a series that's known for mixing low high class humor with emotionally resonant drama, making it into a show which causes you to laugh harder than any other series and cry get more dust in your eyes than most others (causing them to spontaneously water), as well.

And so, as the title indicates, this thread was made for you all to state which side of the series' storytelling coin you prefer more and why. Are you primarily in it for the laughs? Or,do you hold the dramatic arcs in higher esteem?

I absolutely love both. Drama, Comedy, but I'm going to go with the Comedy. If it wasn't for the comedy, this series would have long lost its appeal before i decided to stick it out.

Drama is good...But only in the later episodes. The early episodes reek a bit of 'Gin' saving the day and certain predictable clichey meh's.

:cry Good thread.

i love both sides of Gintama, and admittedly the comedy/parodying is what initially attracted me, as well as kept me interested in the series. i would like to have both. However, the highly dramatic arcs are the best Gintama has to offer, in my opinion, so in the end i value those arcs more.

I prefer the combination of both. While the dramatic aspect does have the shounen cliche feel about it, the combination of comedy makes it a lot more appealing IMO.

I enjoy both the comedy and drama in conjunction with one another.

While I was really drawn into the series due to its humor initially, I don't think I would have been so appreciative of the anime as a whole without that being balanced out eventually by the addition of some drama. Although, were I asked to choose only a single arc or set of episodes to show others or watch myself, I would likely end up picking one of the dramatic arcs. However, considering the makeup of my favorite (Itou), those still end up with about half comedy-half drama in their execution.

Both. Without one Gintama wouldn't be Gintama.

The comedy obviously, though the rather lame drama did add at least to the show as a whole.
They're getting better at the drama part though.

The drama stuff these days though I used to prefer the comedy. It's just the newer episodes comedy just keeps missing the mark.

The comedy is the best part. I recently started to watch this show an i love how funny it is. I don't care for the drama that much.
